  1. Houseboat community? Take my money!!!!
  2. I say shoot for a more urbane version of Peninsula. Even though there isn’t the population support yet, plan for the future. Make this area a destination.
  3. I am torn, because we lost our main soccer benefactor and MLS is doing great. But I never liked the suburban stadium proposal. And also I root for the Crew, so that would just be weird for me lol.
  4. The league is still new, and really is a a godsend for late-to-the-party teams like Cleveland because the entry cost for NWSL is now astronomical. Right now it’s most important to keep the ball rolling, and the USL allows for that. The NWSL ship has sailed for now. There is speculation USL and NWSL could merge in the future, but regardless it is time to seize the moment. We are at a crucial point for soccer in Cleveland, and this entry to USL and the expandable stadium is the way to progress incrementally.
  5. Anyone care to weigh in on whether you think those old buildings to the right of the tracks will/can be repurposed?
  6. I honestly don't think the majority of the prospective season ticket-buying fans care about the league choice, and many are likely not even aware there are two separate leagues.
  7. By their measure, the fan support for the women's team is there. So I don't think that is unrealistic. I just personally think the 15k requirement for USL is ambitious. As of right now only a few USL teams meet that capacity. We shall see!
  8. Also Cleveland is an obvious choice for mens USL. They are launching a new top division within their brand, and there will capacity requirements for stadiums, which is currently 15k but my uneducated guess is that may come down to more like 10k. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/43827636/usl-announces-plans-new-league-rival-mls
  9. FYI this is not minor league: The USL Super League (USLS) is a professional women's soccer league at the highest level of the United States soccer league system, alongside the National Women's Soccer League. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USL_Super_League
  10. Lakewood has all the ingredients to be one of the best places in America. I see that clearly, but what should be happening doesn’t seem to be happening. Or maybe it is happening, but on a timeline outside of my lifetime. Thats okay I guess. Even so, I will never sell my house in Lakewood. For the most part I live and work elsewhere, but I will continue to make “home” at my little house there in Birdtown. I want this place to be perfect and will continue to invest in this house and in the community. It is special. I’m not even from Ohio, but from here on out Lakewood will always be home for me.
  11. Good news....but putting people aged 55+ to "age gracefully" right next to what could be the most dangerous intersection in town is certainly a decision.
  12. Trying to stay on topic lol. It's not crazy to think this area will be the opposite of an outpost in a few years. I know the "Thunderbird" renderings were aspirational, but mixed-use seems like a no brainer for this entire area. That being said, it will be interesting to see whether future residents will embrace more people, or not.
  13. Good luck trying to educate people nowadays about supply and demand haha. Glad to see the momentum!

^ I respectfully disagree. They aren't trying to strangle it out of existence, but rather weaponize it to their advantage. They want more laws that normal people will break every day, more police interactions, more prosecutions, mandatory jail sentences and more money directed towards their pet law enforcement rackets. These people are Idiots but they're not stupid; they are woefully corrupt and they know exactly what they're doing.

DeWine is ignorant. Remember he thinks fentanyl is in marijuana…despite there being virtually no evidence of that. It’s statistically more likely to be in a potato salad but hey, we have politicians from the 1950’s running the show.

Would it surprise anyone if some shady illegal grow/sell operations were financing these idiots? Or Anheuser Bush? Or the Michigan marijuana industry? Idiots. This will absolutely lead to more consumers crossing state lines into Michigan to avoid Ohio's dumb taxes.
  17. I think as with almost all of the potential shoreline projects the secret formula is that "perfect" mix of public access and private ownership. There are lots of examples of how this has been done along desirable waterfronts elsewhere. Unfortunately Ohio is also a lesson in worst-case scenario for coastal development. We gotta learn from our mistakes, and the almost total privatization as you suggest has been a detriment for access to Lake Erie.
  18. Get out of here with your completely sensible and coherently expressed viewpoint!

^ How does this cut down the illicit marijuana market? And in this context what does that word "illicit" even mean exactly?
  20. If the college design competition proposals are realistic, I think they are better use than a stadium. *If

^ Not to mention our best player only scored 11 points. Total team effort. I watched Lakers-Mavs last night. LeBron, Luka and Kyrie are absolutely amazing talents. That being said it is sooo much more enjoyable watching the Cavs style of play. Both Lakers and Mavs looked like they stole their offensive systems from JB Bickerstaff...gritty style of play but with virtually no ball movement.
  22. ^ well any meaningful investment is going to blow a hole in RTA’s budget though, right? We are discussing hypotheticals obviously that are dependent on some kind of monetary shift.
  23. I am not a transit expert, but I am a guy on the internet with opinions. And I do use the RTA Red Line when I am in town. FWIF what I would do if I could is make the system fare-free to try and recapture the significant number of people who don't even consider transit. This would be done along with improvements in safety and customer service, and coinciding with the brand new rail cars. Make it safe and attractive. When numbers bounce back the stations themselves become more valuable for retailers or even residential tennants to capture new revenue streams. Then if it can be economically justified you can consider a fare stystem and potentially start charging. But right now it seems an entire generation of customers no longer has RTA on their radar. That's the most important fix.
  24. Heck, just compare to Gordon Square or Ohio City and Lakewood seems stagnant in comparison. It doesn't make sense to me.
