  1. The goal is to foster better connectivity between downtown and the lakefront and I think the land bridge concept does that. Plus some well-planned infill brings everything close together. This picture effectively illustrates how better integration would or could look.
  2. Variety Theater: Behind Kelly Flamos' Fight to Revive the Historic Venue The former-owner of Mahall's 20 Lanes purchased the historic building to revitalize its multi-purpose space. By Jacob DeSmit Nearly a year after Kelly Flamos closed on her deal to purchase the Variety Theater, the curtains remain closed on her vision to reinvent one of Cleveland’s historic landmarks. Constructed in 1927, the theater’s interior is crumbling. Decades removed from a fabled Motorhead concert so loud it cracked part of the ballroom ceiling in 1984, large swaths of fallen plaster and debris sit piled across the aisles of the main floor and upper balcony; the building’s main entry remains shuttered to the bustle at the corner of Loraine Avenue and West 118th Like the groups before Flamos, she faces a harsh reality: little can be done before untangling the web of necessary funding. “I thought that my big challenge was going to be running the theater … getting people to come to the theater and keeping it going,” Flamos says. “Over the past year, I’ve realized that there are finish lines before I even get to that challenge.” https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-the-cle/articles/variety-theater-behind-kelly-flamos'-fight-to-revive-the-historic-venue?fbclid=IwAR1VVvhrA6Lr5EyEThqq1P8jBrMwqoCZQC8XNadXcGEXPWbX75AErehsHBg
  3. Pressed for time today....how will the update help connectivity to the water and the Science Center? And Ethan's point about the land bridge is a good one. I'd been hoping all these entities on the Lakefront would be working together in all this.
  4. I actually think the high rises are possibly the least important aspect of the plan. It's more vital to get the infrastructure right and let the market capitalize on a very attractive playing field.
  5. Absolutely. I'll be concerned until they add the transportation center. I'm not as worried about spin-off development happening, e.g. all those buildings. I think that'll start happening as soon as there's a plan in place. But to expand on @Whipjacka's point this all needs to be done right. The Lakefront District has to be better designed than Flats East Bank 2.0. Also the renderings make E. 9th and W. 3rd both look like highways where drivers would be going 65 mph.
  6. ^ great [facepalm emoji]
  7. Ha! Tell that to the NFL ;-)

Not saying you're wrong at all, but I have a strong feeling the big 3 automakers are on board with the policies CA is floating with regard to emissions. And Republicans surely have plenty of their own stunts ready to go.
  9. Agree. That whole area is a waste of space. It also needs actual streets bisecting north-south it too to regain a functional street grid there.

A group of friends got together to watch the first game but it was such a bad experience I stopped there. Strange season. I really lost a lot of interest when Love was traded. I think in some ways that moment symbolized the end of the good feelings of last season and the start of something else.
  11. I have been wondering if the artist can paint realistic-looking windows.
  12. Sorry I can't remember the source for this pic, but I'll be damned if this isn't a sexy looking city from the North. By FAR the very best angle of CLE. Prove me wrong!!!!
  13. He also ran in the early 90's...I remember because there was a bad rap song about it lol.
  14. ^ San Diego is super interesting to watch right now. The remnant car culture is very much in the way of improving the city and region, but the planets for more thoughtful infrastructure are almost in alignment.
  15. The visual of a restored Westinghouse and a hopefully sooner-than-later Shoreway Tower is going to be incredible.
  16. Haha you are being much too kind with saying "mediocrity." Between April 19, 1993 and April 19, 2023, the Cleveland Browns have the worst record by a team, with a record of 150-283-1. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/worst-teams-in-the-last-30-years-in-nfl
  17. My personal vision would be to primarily focus on making the district a world center for health and wellness. Your idea for training facilities would certainly fit in there.
  18. This is more of a broad look rather than an in depth cost-benefit analysis. But lots of info here: https://www.greenribbonlakefront.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Land-Bridge-Proposal_GRC_2019-07-22_5.5.pdf
  19. On the contrary I'd wager most proponents of the walkway and shoreway downgrade actually prefer the stadium go elsewhere. They view the stadium as an impediment rather than a feature.
  20. Also add that they could possible play in the stadium during renovations.
  21. First, I think we need to agree on what terms mean what. For the sake of clarity how about we use Dome for a fixed, permanently closed-roof stadium to differentiate between that and a Retractable roof stadium. Personally I'd rank having to watch the team indoors when it's 70 deg and sunny outside as way more miserable than watching them play outside in a snowstorm. Second it was kind of hilarious hearing Tony Grossi on ESPN 850 bad-mouthing Ken's article all the while managing to sound both drunk AND senile before accidentally hanging up the phone during his interview lol.

Lol I had a mental breakdown against Lakewood Police after being pulled over five times in a week for "Ohio plates" coming back as "unregistered." The scanners couldn't figure out the license plats say "California" on them. That was a few years back. Maybe they're better now?
  23. Nice. Sounds about perfect for the folks making that long bike trek up the Towpath.
  24. The transformation of Olde Towne East has been remarkable, and even controversial. But seeing these kinds of places restored is one of the bright spots of the last 30 years. p.s. is anyone on here a structural engineer? https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/703-Franklin-Ave-Columbus-OH-43205/33826445_zpid/
  25. ^ I used to see a LOT of kids playing soccer at Perk Park. I always thought something like this closer to CSU would make sense. But always nice to see more athletic resources for the community.
