Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I really hope they keep the original brick pavers in place. Those are battle tested and should last forever!! Anyone else notice how chincy the new ones are ie East 4th, North Coast Harbor, Progressive Field, etc. etc. Even on Euclid Ave I'm noticing that many are already chipped and damaged.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Thought this is cool. At the lobby for Tucker Ellis (Huntington Bldg) there is a huge blowup of the Flats East Bank plan with an arrow pointing to "The new home of Tucker Ellis."

City of the Summit!
Hi there UrbanPreppie!! I remember the reasons they gave, but I still couldn't disagree more with them. That hack job they did was completely short sighted. They can never replace what they tore down....for a parking garage. :? It should be illegal in this state to tear down a beloved building for a parking garage, no matter how vacant it is AT THE PRESENT TIME. And I think the beauty of the building would've justified leaving that part of the canal covered. Or even better, they could've uncovered just enough to make the canal a feature of INTERIOR of the building. Oh well, nothing we can do now... before the demo: http://www.clarkcompanies.com/Site%20Revision/images/Large%20Project%20Photos/Canal%20Park%20Akron%20Aeros.jpg the crime in progress: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e36/tlastoria/akron2.jpg

Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio
I love going to Geneva. It reminds me of what the Jersey Shore was kinda like 100 years ago. Very fun, sometimes crazy atmosphere and generally a diverse group of people. The fact that it's below the radar makes it a cool place to be. Keeping it real lol. Of course, every now and then you see some guys and think "damn they must be from Alabama" or whatever, but it makes for interesting people watching. With some programs for beach replenishment and new investment, it could easily once again turn into "the place to be." Nostalgia sells.

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Oates, Mustache Make Cartoon Crime-Fighting Team John Oates may be coming to a cartoon near you. June 27, 2008 , 11:15 AM ET Kamau High, N.Y. John Oates wants people to know that he is nothing like what he was when he had a mustache. The Hall & Oates principal is firm about the distinction, because if things go as planned, his mustachioed image could appear on TV in cartoon form kicking ass, rocking out and wearing tight pink pants. Independent publisher Primary Wave Music Publishing, which owns a majority stake in most of the biggest hits in the Hall & Oates catalog, is shopping a cartoon titled "J-Stache" that further illustrates the dichotomy. As laid out in a two-minute trailer, Oates is portrayed as a modern-day family man and finds himself enticed back to the rock star life by his mustache, which is voiced by comedian Dave Attell. ......... for the entire story, go here: http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003821770

City of the Summit!
Loved seeing Quaker SqUAre!!!! p.s. I want to strangle whoever decided it was a good idea to tear down most of the O'neills building....in pic 22 you can see it's new, much smaller version now. But it used to span the entire outfield, neatly boxing in the stadium. And is why it used to have the nickname "Little Camden Yards" because of its likeness to Baltimore. Anyway, thanks again for posting and GO ZIPS.

Painesville / Lake County: Development and News
That's it AJ, I'm talking about the boulders/rocks. Beaches are supposed to erode, and then replenish. The natural transfer of sand from one place to another is called littoral drift. When that process is messed with extensively, you end up with Ohio, a state with hardly any sand beaches whatsoever. There are other, less harmful options to limit erosion, but unfortunately they are generally not employed here. http://www.shoregro.com/P03_Coastal%20erosion-options.html Human influence / hard engineering aka "armoring the coast" Human influence has and will invariably alter the natural balances in sediment supply. Coastal development will often restrict the natural supply of beach material by armoring the coastline and preventing dune or cliff erosion. Coastal erosion control structures such as sea walls and revetments are built to defend the shore, not the beach. They will always have a negative impact on a beach, as they will prevent any new material from entering the littoral zone from the shore. p.s. I did read that jam40jeff....it's best just not to think about that stuff. Scary!!!

Painesville / Lake County: Development and News
I want to like this project, but I really, truly hate how they're armoring the coastline. That's completely backward, and that kind of thinking is why the Ohio shoreline is so screwed up and has so few beaches. Come on Ohio, WTF. http://www.jjr-us.com/JJRWaterfronts/Content/Projects/imagesbig/339-01.jpg

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
^ I think what's bothering most people is the high profile location of this cheese house. Nobody wants our "technology corridor" and main street to look Niagara Falls tacky. But if people want to come up here from the suburbs and go there, well, good for them. At least more people would be coming into downtown.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
^ Well don't feel too bad, there is still hope of a department store there someday. Unlike in Akron's case, where they stupidly tore down 75 percent of the beautiful O'neills building. :-( http://www.art.com/asp/View_HighZoomResPop.asp?apn=10374038&imgloc=9-995-Z000W7CE.jpg&imgwidth=930&imgheight=645

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I went down during lunch yesterday to watch some of the student center demo. If you haven't seen it, they're using some kind of mechanical "lobster" claw to cut up the concrete and steel on the building. I'll miss the old place, it was an exceptional looking place that reminded me of the U.N. and also the most confusing building to naviagate. I'm sure the architect and builders thought it would be there for a long long time. Anyway the irony is, the signage depicted on the construction fence makes the new student center look eerily similar to the old place!!!

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
I'm not exactly wowed by the idea of the medical mart fronting street level. I think it would be a waste of future, prime retail space.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
All right....soon downtown will be able to boast more mechanical bulls than we have department stores. Take that Houston. WE are mechanical bull city, YEEHAAAWWW.

Cleveland: Inside Spinnaker's and Other Flats East Bank
I was by there on Sunday for more patio bricks. Amazing, at the former Beachcomber aka Hooters there are about 1,000 full bottles of Samuel Adams beer in a dumpster (liquidation!) right next to the building. Whoever neglected that beer is a criminal in my book. Anyhow, it was very therapeutic hurling those full bottles into the brick wall. Really- it makes the coolest sound you've ever heard.

Yeesh, so what you're saying with that timeline, is that nobody on this forum will be alive to see anything really happen from all of this. :wtf:
