  1. I thought that press release came out a week ago??? I thought the property adjacent to the airport made the most sense, but the FAA was apparently not going to allow it. Somebody on here posted a cool "transit hub" idea about it. Yeesh, I know it's a big project but 20 years...very frustrating how slowly things move. That's the crux of my disappointment with the lakefront plan as a whole.

Lorain's available waterfront acreage is a huge X factor for the future of that city.
  3. Anybody else see the local news broadcast on this project 7pm Sunday night? I was in a crowded, noisy bar, but I think the channel was fox 8. I can't find a link on the story there, or the other local stations websites, but it looked very promising. Wish I could've heard it. They seemed to be going into some detail with the plans. Can somebody find this and post a link???
  4. I thought I read last year that whomever restored the old church would require more parking in that location. Does that mean possible domolition of the Giant Eagle building?
  5. For the life of me I can't picture upscale retail in that area with those surrounding neighborhoods, but best of luck to them. Then again, wouldn't that project (retail, ice rink, etc.) make much more sense going downtown? It's too bad Goodyear can't relocate closer to the city center.

I think this is the future brewery: http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/808890 http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=105370917
  7. The 8th floor views toward downtown are AMAZING.
  8. I'm also a Mac user and had no problemo!!
  9. "Even if work stops immediately, the tower has been damaged irreparably." I think that's a little (a lot really) overdramatic. Makes it sound like the building is about to collapse for crying out loud. That kind of talk only damages the argument for preservation.
  10. That video is remarkable!!!! Thanks for posting. The waterfront is a goldmine waiting to be discovered, and imho, the defining feature which distinguishes our city from the suburbs and places Cleveland above Columbus and Cincy as a place to visit and to live.
  11. Does anyone have any renditions???
  12. All right!!! GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!
  13. Have to agree, of the 3 choices Burke is the best. I would hate to see the marinas being affected though. If they had to relocate, I hope that something could be worked out to their benefit.
  14. It still floors me that there are no windows directly facing the water!!!!

  16. Good. I don't want to see the FEB clogged up with 9-5 offices anyway. They're a recipe for a ghost town.
  17. "....all new utilities, including separate sanitary and storm sewers." Thank goodness. Another big step toward removing raw sewage from our drinking water.
  18. The Beachland and Music Saves are treasures in this city. Here's to them both being around for a long long time. Only sad thing is the very name "Beachland" conjures lost images of Euclid Beach Park and a thriving beach and entertainment scene, regretfully long lost to neglect and erosion.
  19. I always thought it would be great to have a houseboat community up here. So much underutilized waterfront, so much opportunity.....
  20. I'm still waiting to see what strucures if any the FAA will allow to be built at/near Burke. Remember the original Lakefront Plan took these restrictions into account, and the best they could come up with was a golf couse. In any regard, it bothers me to think of all that wasted space with the ugly undeveloped bluffs and the shoreway. Imagine if we could somehow bridge the shoreway and the urban grid could just extend north of the bluffs and cascade down to the water...,iimagine all of that potential. We may not see it realized in our lifetime and that pisses me off.

I think about all the wasteland by E 55th and wish the soccer stadium would go there, or tie in with Cleveland State.
  22. The potential for Wendy Park/Whiskey Island is limitless- still needs a LOT of work but you can see it hapening. And the idea to extend the towpath there is a very very good one provided the trail through the city is regarded as safe. We will see the entire area benefit from continued investment into better lakefont access.
  23. I'm not sure how to interpret this. The Master Plan function is to: To provide a framework for long-range planning (2030) To graphically present preferred airport development concepts To define the purpose and need for development projects To comply with all applicable FAA requirements To enable the airport to achieve its mission To assure compatible land use development To support the financial health of one of a City’s most powerful economic engines To identify facility requirements for all airport users Depending on what "airport development concepts" really means, the document sounds like a blueprint for Burke's expansion more than anything else. Anyhow, it doesn't sound too positive for those who want to open up that prime real estate for more appropriate, waterfront residential/retail/recreational usage.
  24. "Among other proposals: cleansing heavily polluted sites; restoring wetlands; preventing release of toxic chemicals; restoring habitat; and halting exotic species invasions..." I would like to hear more about restoring wetlands and habitat here in Cleveland. So far the proposals for Lakefront Development completely ignore these important issues.
  25. Scranton Peninsula is prime land near the heart of downtown that could be reasonably used, as a whole, in a new manner. I was curious as to what anyone could come up with as far as ideas and concepts for that area of land. I could envision a smaller scale but very intresting development that would consist of a web of canals criss-crossing the land and having 3-6 story buildings amongst the canals in a Hamburg or Amsterdam sort of idea. The result would be a completely new, intergrated, and distinctly diffrent neighborhood to cleveland. Pedestrian bridges could connect to new development on the west bank of the cuyahoga. The result could be stunning. What are your ideas? Awesome ideas and great pics!!! I would also like to see a boardwalk residential/retail community as part of it too.
