Cleveland summer tourism
A yacht? Perhaps I have to brush up on my nautical terminology, ha ha. To me it looked similar in size to the Great Lakes Cruise ships I've read about. It certainly dwarfed the 18 wheel trucks beside it. Anyhow, I would love the idea of taking a trip to Chicago, Toronto, Grand Haven, Niagara, etc.

Cleveland summer tourism
I can't find any info. But it looks like this: http://www.caribbean-boat-charters.com/images/power_charter_yacht.jpg Granted, it's not the size of Carnival Cruiseline or anything. More like a bigger, sleeker version of the Goodtime.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Anyone else feel like someone's going to be killed trying to cross the street at Public Square? Construction has placed pedestrians closer to traffic than ever. Every day at Ontario and Superior I witness a near miss. Usually it's careless jaywalking, but this morning was different. About 12 of us were waiting at the cross walk when the "walk" signal came on. A traffic officer started waiving us to cross. Or so we thought. In actuality, he was waiving the busses to continue speeding through the intersection. Some guy had to be grabbed from behind before the bus hit him. Thank God that guy was lucky. What a nightmare the square is right now.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
3 is interesting, but very cold. I don't like how it looms over the rotunda. 6 is an evil fortress.

Green Building / LEED
"Are we constantly behind the times living here in Ohio? " Hold the groaning- Sorry I'm not meaning to sound negative. Far from it, it's a legitimate question. Name the biggest current projects in Cleveland. For the most part you don't hear anything in the local media about LEED-ratings, etc. Yes I am aware of the great groups like Ecocity, and I am involved locally....Perhaps I should've rephrased the question "will Ohio consumers fuel the trend toward green living?" My personal opinion is that the answer is no, that the majority in the state are fairly conservative in this regard. I, like all of us on this forum, want Ohio to be recognised as being at the forefront of new and better technologies.

Are we constantly behind the times living here in Ohio? Here's an excellent article on the economics and philosophy of green construction: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-07-26-green-construction_x.htm

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I love the Malls. To me they are so much more inviting than Public Square. It's not fair to single them out as being "vacant." It is simply a direct result of being surrounded by buildings and a downtown that are completely vacant after 5pm. Imagine them expanding north and bridging the shoreway/rail gap to North Coast Harbor. Then we're on our way to a world class waterfront.

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
p.s. Why do I have the feeling that if the Casino vote passes, the West Bank can look forward to more stunning new buildings in the great, archetectual stylings of Christies Cabaret?

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
“It would be hard” to co-exist, said Mr. Plotz, who quickly added, “I’m not sure I want to hear this” when he was told about K&D’s parking lot purchase. The drama! It sounded like the guy might have fainted, lol. Some people would have our waterfront look like a broken cinderblock forever. Seriously though, a residential-industrial-retail mix could easily work there. The ships, the train, Lake Erie, the River, the huge piles of whatever at the Port, etc-- they are all scenic in their own way. It's all part of the fabric of the Flats that make the area so unique. Anyway, perhaps a specific industrial access road or tunnel to handle the large trucks would benefit both residents and local businesses alike.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I would like to see the Shoreway Project foster new development at and around Edgewater Park. There can be many new retail and residential opportunities that, done carefully, would not restrict public access to the water. Much of the land at Edgewater is wasted space. And the taxes generated from private businesses could be used to improve the Park and keep it clean.

Lakewood: Development and News
Awesome news about Birdtown!!! I believe my street, Dowd Ave, is the only one in Birdtown not named after a bird.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
All I can see are the railroad tracks....no sign of the the shoreway, at least not visible on my shoddy, ViewSonic monitor!

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Unbelievable to think that someday you may be able to drive right up to the Lighthouse!!! Done carefully, the island could mitigate the years of so called "improvements" that completely ruined our coastline. This would be accomplished by adding new sand beaches, wetlands and areas of public access. I wish however that the island concept didn't necessitate taking over so much of Whiskey Island. The marina there is an asset.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
A fascinating preview!! So far I like the distinct coastal flavor of the architecture. And I'm glad they are preserving the powerhouse. p.s. Somebody please alert ODOT that the Shoreway is missing.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Question: Say Burke is eventually developed. Why then can't we just keep the race course? As in Europe, it could be integrated in the new community. Now that would be a draw!!!
-
Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
So much potential surrounding the Airport! Right now those areas are physically and psychologically inaccessible. There needs to be a master plan centered on a waterfront that is completely walkable, as in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Better walking patterns will connect the Rock Hall, Science Center, Voinovich Park, and any new developments surrounding Burke. It would have been very cool to have integrated the Coast Guard and Naval Offices (didn't know they left!) into a combined retail and residential mix, with plenty of public access. But since 9/11 any military facility-or airport- will obviously look like a fortress surrounded by barbwire, etc. More barriers to public access.

Cleveland: Tyler Elevator Factory (Tyler Village)

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Great ideas. Marinas, races, boardwalks, rides, arcades, bars and restaurants = a thriving waterfront. And I can't stop myself from commenting how suburban and corporate (these are not compliments) Wolsteins initial renderings look. The Flats deserve better than "Crocker Park by the Sea."

The Cuyahoga River bulkheads
Thanks Guv. The green bulkhead design is very forward thinking. It will certainly be a challenge in the future trying to correct many years of ecological abuse.
