Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Okay so I was thinking, how in the world did the Haslam's spend a million dollars? It certainly couldn't have been solely on these great-but-already-outdated renderings, right? Who exactly is supposed to be filling up all development? My best guess is that the Haslam's have some serious business partner or partners in the works. Someone big enough to help take up a significant portion of this development plan. Someone bigger or in addition to the previously identified partners that Pace had been touting. Now I have my own theories but will keep them to myself in order to prevent this from becoming a wild speculation thread. It's already been a sim-city thread for long enough lol. But my questions I think are vital ones. Why else would the Haslam's be spending on this endeavor?

It's nice to imagine how pleasant it would be to walk through this rendering. I recently visited to attend the NFL Draft and walking down E. 9th Street across the Shoreway to the Lakefront....not pleasant.

This. This is the mindset that has been turning me off to sports in general. Unfortunately only a few teams' fans are insulated against this kind of marketing dumbassery. Packers, Yankees, Steelers, Celtics etc. I am pretty jealous of those fans where idiotic rebranding and constant threats of moving are unthinkable.

Kent / Kent State University: Development and News
I wanna say Town Tavern had a sister location at Exchange and Brown St. at U. Akron. Or am I thinking of Town House? That era is a hazy one for me...but I really loved swinging over to KSU and hitting up Brady's, Singin' Sams, Black Squirrel, Europe Gyro, Library, Taco Tontos, etc. etc. I hardly recognize the place anymore.

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
East end Lakewood baby! Some sketchy weird intersections for sure, but I do miss taking the scenic route through Edgewater Park. That being said Most of Lakewood isn't really in on the cool bike paths...yet. I'd really like to see how the housing prices in vicinity to the redline-greenway are affected. Bicycle connectivity is truly a beautiful thing.

Disqualify is a strong word. But generally when a candidate appears at a venue it is some sort of a symbolic gesture.

Columbus Crew Discussion
This all strikes me as a decision made at some very exclusive country club, far far removed from realm of normal people and normal thought processes. I just want to know who thought this would be a good idea? Because it's asinine. Who didn't like the name "Columbus Crew?"

April 1st was also my first thought as well. What is the logic behind this?

Are all of the major universities in Ohio in close proximity to rail?

Your mean retractable roof? I’d find it hard to believe the Indians would pursue an indoor venue. Plus their ballpark is still one of the best.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
^”A major thrust of the plan is to seek balance in a system that leans heavily toward ownership of a car as the price of entry to the region’s job market.” Sounds promising, but after reading I still get the impression that for NOACA public transportation is primarily for people who cannot afford a car. This isn’t the best messaging for selling the idea of better transit.

Well we tore down the buildings that housed the Ingenuity Fest. Google it. It was amazing. So we lost that much. But it proved that getting people to the lakefront isn't some billion dollar scheme, but more of a programming issue. Then you literally build on that.

I've never been to Toronto, but they do appear to be 50 years ahead of CLE as far as their re-connection to the water goes. I'm ignorant on the Philly waterfront, even though I grew up 30 min away. I'll check it out on the google. But nobody I knew ever went to Philadelphia explicitly to be by the water; that could be because there's an ocean so close by.

Agree, an asset, though I personally find the extra transfer a significant inconvenience. I think KJP? had a good idea on getting a bus-rapid stop at Edgewater.

And while I'm talking about better access, we've seen how popular Edgewater Park has become. Yet the design of the roads makes any event difficult to get to as far as parking goes. It's gridlock, as the park is almost isolated from the street grid. Sure you can bike there or park further away, but that's not exactly a viable option for families or for people with disabilities. Like Edgewater North Coast Harbor suffers by its separation from the urban context. Too many damn highways.

And it's also a short walk from the Rock Hall to the Science center....but it's still does not mean the two places are well-connected! Have you ever been to Baltimore's Inner Harbor? Or any boardwalk? They work because of pedestrian flow. Right now North Coast Harbor has zero, they layout makes no sense from that perspective.

Have some vision my man! This is all a process....a painfully slow process toward making our Lakefront more welcoming, more accessible and more attractive. If you've never been to Voinovich Park - it's awesome. It's just relatively removed from the rest of the universe.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
billydelfsphoto The flats in Cleveland are incredibly photogenic. Modest scale structures of utilitarian character. Old cereal mills along the Cuyahoga that were used to grind winter wheat. They have been there since the 1800s and in 2020 learned they will be removed soon.. exhibition in the Little Italy redevelopment offices June 4-6. Respectfully disagree. I think if you check this pic, you can see how much a bridge - even an arguably ugly one - helps pedestrian flow and access to Voinovich Park, aka Siberia.
