Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
I have no studies or reports but my wife was a teacher in Cleveland for years. Children from a destructive or unsupportive home environment are nearly impossible to properly educate. Sadly such a large number of students fit that description in the city that it creates a disruptive atmosphere where ensuring good conduct requires an inordinate amount of time and energy. It is heartbreaking to witness so many kids who have no real shot at a normal life. The only solution I can think of is to provide boarding schools where the student environment is safe and conducive to learning. I'm not sure how that could even be done without a controversial and massive change in the district, not to mention the cost considerations.

Taxes
Those complainers are the same type of people who, if they were able, would not hesitate to turn the beach neighborhoods into a gated community.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Really a shame we lost Jojo Natson. Then again opposing teams were just kicking away from him anyhow. Looking forward to seeing a good solid bounce back vs. the Bengals this week.

For a short time the Rax in Akron's Merriman Valley became a topless juice bar. It was surreal, and one of those things that just seemed so very Akron.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread. Mentions of Chateau Hough (anyone ever been?) Cleveland Foundation (Midtown thread locked!) and an interesting idea to connect League Park to the Dunham Tavern. MANSFIELD: More on “Scene” Magazine https://coolcleveland.com/2020/10/mansfield-more-on-scene-magazine/

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Good point. The memory of this season will make me not miss Lindor so much. It's much more forgivable to have a good defensive-but-average hitter at short. What's awful is having outfielders who can neither hit nor field their position, ie our misfit outfield.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I am actually mad right now. I'm usually disappointed at the end of every season but not mad....this year is different. I mean I'm not mad at Carasco as I knew he wouldn't have a great game and I'm just glad he's alive. Also Jose Ramirez is awesome. But otherwise our guys barely had a pulse. Lindor has been practically brain dead all season. We have players in the lineup batting .138 and and consistently reliant upon AAA caliber players. That being said it's quite obvious we didn't really belong in the playoffs. When you're "strength" on your roster is pitching and you give up 100 runs vs. NYY it's just not even the slightest bit enjoyable.

^ Interesting. Not sure why office is chosen over residential, but who knows. I sure hate the way that church building's parking lot fronts Madison. I'd be pleasantly surprised to see something built there that fronts the sidewalk.

I was just at Hopkins last week, funneled into a TSA area that was the size of a shoebox lol. This setup does not work in 2020 or beyond.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I'm just kind of numb to sports at this point. I used to watch every play of the Browns games no matter what. But today it was surprisingly easy to just busy myself with yard work after the first quarter.

Green Building / LEED
Dusty old thread! Look up! It’s the World’s Biggest Rooftop Greenhouse By Phys.org|September 4, 2020 Building on a new urban gardening trend, a gigantic greenhouse atop a Montreal warehouse growing eggplants and tomatoes to meet demand for locally sourced foods has set a record as the largest in the world. Canadian-based Lufa Farms just opened the facility that spans 160,000 square feet, or about the size of three football fields. “We are now able to feed almost two percent of Montreal with our greenhouses and our partner farms,” said company spokesman Thibault Sorret. “The advantage of being on a roof is that you recover a lot of energy from the bottom of the building,” allowing considerable savings in heating, an asset during the harsh Quebec winter, he explains. Fully automated, the new greenhouse also has a water system that collects and reuses rainwater, resulting in savings of “up to 90%” compared to a traditional farm. https://www.greenhousegrower.com/crops/vegetables/look-up-its-the-worlds-biggest-rooftop-greenhouse/
