Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
A very good WR, an even better filmmaker apparently! University of Akron alum Matthew Cherry wins Oscar for animated short ‘Hair Love’ By Robin Goist, cleveland.com LOS ANGELES, California -- Matthew A. Cherry, a former University of Akron and NFL wide receiver, won an Academy Award on Sunday for directing “Hair Love," which won best animated short film. The nearly seven-minute film, which was funded through a Kickstarter campaign, depicts an African-American father’s experience of styling his young daughter’s hair for the first time. “We have a big team that we have to thank, but time is running short, so I just want to say that ‘Hair Love’ was done because we wanted to see more representation in animation,” Cherry said during his acceptance speech alongside producer Karen Rupert Toliver. “We wanted to normalize Black hair.”

Brecksville: Sherwin-Williams Research & Development Center
Seeing how low-rise-sprawly SHW intends for their R&D buildings, perhaps now something a bit more conducive to good urban design can go into that section of Scranton....someday. A silver lining?

Valor Acres sits in a prime location with a 30-minute drive time to the majority of Northeast Ohio and in between two major airports. VA was designed to blend work, shop, live, stay and play together. So apparently there's no issue having "luxury housing" and mixed-use in close proximity to SW's R&D?

Cleveland: Cudell / West Boulevard / Edgewater: Development and News
Checking Google maps, that seems like the only block that's still intact. Some really awful land use surrounding it. But Cleveland Lumber is truly a gem, along with the house next to it. I actually had a co-worker who lived right by there. An attorney. She was from Romania and had no concept of "good vs. bad" neighborhood. She just saw a good deal on rent.

^ Very glad they're saving this building. That stretch of Madison is just such an ugly duckling, it's hard to envision things turning around there.

Disappointed Koby Altman was not able to find new spots for KLove and Tristan. This has been one of the worst seasons I can remember.

NFL: General News & Discussion
^^ Holy cow it's time for Shanahan to start doing TED talks for being so awful when it counts the most. QB's Brady and Mahomes of course get all the credit for the comebacks, but their efforts would be meaningless if only the Falcons/49ers maintain a semblance of offense. SF had THREE timeouts and still elected not to run the ball after the 2 min. warning. Their run game was just gouging through KC! Bad bad gameplan. The bomb pass into the endzone with 1:34 left was not smart.

Lake Erie Restoration and Environmental Issues
Water levels have been disastrous. There has to be a way to mitigate this. I know the Niagara Falls already artificially affect things to some extent. Would it be smart to consider selling off this extra water, if it could be done in an ecologically acceptable manner?

Lake Erie Restoration and Environmental Issues
This article didn’t really explain why the opposition in any detail, but I’ll assume it’s 1. Polluted dredge material fears 2. possible intro of non-native cattails. As an aside it’s 2020 and time for local/state governments to ONLY be allowed to plant native species. Anyhow I am pleasantly surprised to see the state moving forward with some serious wetland creation. Here’s hoping it all works out and sets a precedent for getting back our Lake wetlands - 97% was lost to development.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
It sure was interesting hearing Boomer Esiason tear into John Dorsey this week, essentially calling him stupid. The thought was Boomer was relaying the opinions of Andy Reid. The overall high level of soap opera-ish backstabbing and drama seems unique to the NFL. Anyone else still not quite over what the heck happened this season? The optimism was fun and exciting while it lasted.

The year was 1998. I bought an iMac DV for a film project and just immediately loved the damn thing. I told my cyberlaw professor I was thinking of taking my student loan money and investing in Apple stock. Despite being a hugest Mac Guy ever, he said it wouldn't be wise, because at that time Apple versions of important software were always coming out months later than the windows version. He said he had finally broken down, just bought a Dell and predicted Mac's would soon be obsolete. The way I see it, Professor Brand T. Lee owes me a freaking yacht. edit - if someone wants to ruin my day and run the numbers, the amount of the student loan was $17,500.

NBA: General News & Discussion
You know i was unaware of that until I listened to the Kobe recording, where air control is giving the pilot highway directions, so strange. Great point about the route, so strange. I have no idea what happened of course, but here in San Diego lately the fog has been hovering out over the ocean most of the day and then suddenly coming onshore with a vengeance.
