  1. My apologies if I confused you, The picture I posted above is the Louis Sullivan Guaranty Bldg in Buffalo - similar in style to the Rockefeller Bldg, but obviously the Rockefeller is a less adorned copy. Personally, I just prefer the clean, unified look without the signage. Best Regards - D.O.
  2. @EthanI agree and understand the history that the building will always be called the "Rockefeller" building. Maybe is the coloring or the size of the font or something. It looks out of place. Here is a photo the "unmarred' Louis Sullivan Guaranty Bldg in Buffalo for comparison. This is timeless!
  3. Ha ha @MayDay... Checkout the Brewdog Drag Queen running out for the GT3 tourist photo op!
  4. Hi Ken, wonderful & busy time for Downtown! PS: Can you relay one person's opinion to the owners of the Rock to drop the large white "Rockefeller" on the top floor. It lacks dignity befitting such a historic building.
  5. Some of the largest design issues (e.g., open roof, two story (un)welcome center, pedestrian walkways ) never seem to be in play. Its always minor things such as rainbow color plantings that take up the committee's oxygen. But hey, they are finally putting in a skyscraper. So for that we are happy.
  6. The Colorado State U AeroEco lab and Cornell Lab of Ornithology actually publish daily migratory maps in the Spring and Fall of how many birds are expected to be flying through US cities each night. Its pretty sophisticated tracking based on weather radar data and such. See for example: Birdcast.info or Aeroecolab.com
  7. There has been of course lots of thoughtful discussion for many months in this thread on the design of the tower and welcome center. However, everytime a lighting or landscape improvement is added to these rendering packages, I personally feel more disappointed in the blase design. Does anyone here think it fulfils SW original intent of building an iconic headquarters to attract the next generation of employees?

Yes, thank you. This essay seems to be in alignment with the info provided on the website of University of Chicago. He was heavily lobbied by members of the Baptist church to make a substantial donation to help found UC. Later, he significantly added large sums to keep the university afloat. There is not really any factor that can be pinned on community or church leaders in Cleveland proper in regard to UC. Rockefeller's suggestion and promotion to move Dennison U. to Cleveland fell through because of local Baptist leaders thinking the moral environment in a small town was the better site.

Efforts to refloat American Courage haven't been fully successful as of earlier today.. Sigh, If I only had the nerve.

Wait, wasn't J.D. one of our local business leaders? One of the richest men in the world and all that? I think the back story is too complicated to be captured in a few postings on this chat board. Maybe, we should launch a UO lecture series and invite historians to donate an hour of their time? 😊
  11. I don't know ...having a Guardians owner that is part owner of three or four (or more) other major sports franchises never appealed to me as a fan. Is this a selfish viewpoint on my part? Someone smarter, please point out the fallacy in my thinking.

Welp! We can't have this conversation without bringing up this unfortunate (for NE Ohio) bit of history. https://www.lib.uchicago.edu/collex/exhibits/building-long-future/john-d-rockefeller/
  13. Wait, are we supposed to like this annex building now? I agree that the landscaping details look nice, but the flat gray roof looks crappy in these renderings. I'm a bit surprised that SW didn't reach out to me to solicit my opinion. 😉
  14. Urban survival 🙄

@MayDay Beautiful photos. Were these shot with your Sony A7 mirrorless? Best birthday wishes.
  16. @MuRrAy HiLLWait, that hydraulic system is just sitting out in the open like that....with part of it wrapped in a plastic tarp? That is weird. They couldn't have sprung for a case to put around it? Strange stuff. Maybe, its just temporary until they get the horse harness rigged up?

Man 😎, I slogged through that article, waiting for a reward at the end that never came. 🤨
  18. Quick @Geowizical, we need a massing of the Adjaye designed Rocket (Mortgage) launchpad 🚀 secured to the Bedrock below Tower City. Dan Gilbert soon to announce he will be going mano a mano with Elon.
  19. Wow! to the nth degree. Let's hope this development can reach fruition. These riverfront properties are really the first impression of downtown by visitors or only those driving by on the highway. Let alone the Clevelanders that will live and work in these spaces. It's like the front door of downtown. Did I already say Wow!?
  20. @E RoccI'm interpreting this comment as satire, right? 😉 Go Guards!
  21. @KJPGreat article. We often read that public funding of stadia doesn't generate economic revenue in return for the sponsoring city/county. However, in the case of Gateway, at least, it appears that this level of development would never occur without the presence of the sports venues. Can someone smarter than me expand on why this may or may not be the case in Cleveland?
  22. A little Googling....it seems like the floral installations are a combination of silk flowers and actual plants.
  23. My concern is how well the mural will hold up to aging over future years to whatever her design ends up at.
  24. Lebron to become minority owner? 😀
