I am really glad I don't bet because my good feelings were obviously way off - I really thought this team was going to be good. This is quickly becoming pathetic.

I think I am going to see this as well. Generally, the Marvel heroes have more interesting stories, and I have always liked them better as the main characters struggle with their personal demons. I guess they are a little darker - the one exception being Batman as he easily could have been a Marvel character even though he lives in a fictional city. Speaking of Katie Holmes, she has done some good work in movies like Abandon and the indy movie Pieces of April. Unfortunately, I cannot take her seriously since she has been "transformed" into the new Katie and allowed herself to be cut off from all of her old friends. Her marriage with Tom Cruise just seems strange and creepy, and based on her last movie the future prospects are not good. Interestingly, Tom was originally supposed to be the lead in Iron Man, but Robert Downey Jr was a nice, somewhat surprising choice.
  3. This is a good idea for West Chester, but this seems a little silly. I think every high-schooler, college student, and twenty or thirty-something know if they are looking for hip, the suburbs are not going to be the place to find it. All I can think of is Ben Folds.

Awesome - it's been awhile since I laughed out loud at a posting on the internet. Little Ricky is a lucky guy to hook up with Geraldine, and I think old Cody Matherson is already feelin' something - maybe high or drunk. Seriously, I had to scroll through them twice just to get the full effect - hilarious and disturbing all at once.
  5. I have never been to or heard about any other college in America where this behavior occurs ^ I apologize, this was a bit of sarcasm - I think this is pretty consistent behavior at any school, at least when I was in college. I was pointing out that you can find this activity at most schools.
  6. Wow - drinking, getting high, and hooking up in public is so cool. I have never been to or heard about any other college in America where this behavior occurs, but sharing collegiate escapades on a public forum is probably not a good idea.
  7. The Erlanger one is not a surprise as the new stadium seating Cinema De Lux (the high-end Showcase, which usually includes a full service bar in the lobby - one is in Springdale) is opening in Florence, and will have more screens with the modern amenities. If Millworks in Oakley ever gets going, they plan a Cinema De Lux there as well. I thought they would keep Bond Hill open until then.

I am not a big fan of 3 Doors Down, but that is not a bad video. I think we can thank Lightborne Studios for the free pub by the way. They have done videos for Heartless Bastards and the Greenhornes as well as Death Cab for Cutie. I cannot say for sure, but the video for Summer Skin looks like it was filmed in OTR.
  9. I hardly listen to WLW except for some news updates or Reds games, but I listened today because of the topic. Tracy Jones is a fool, and I am surprised he is from California with such a conservative attitude - I guess he fits the profile for the station. They have all been programmed to talk about crime (no matter how much it drops) in the city and to trash the street car. It seems like all the talkers are pretty interchangeable.
  10. That was not just an urban legend that killed the logo but a smear campaign by some dirtballs working for Amway, the Scientology of the consumer market.

More details on Delta's push - the airline environment sucks and there is a risk that Delta could reduce service as an independent due to losses. At this point, I think consolidation is a foregone conclusion, especially if fuel costs remain high. Bastian is obviously doing a good job selling the politicians so they could look like idiots if this turns out bad. Hopefully Bastian feels the same about the local market a year from now, but I like how Sherrod Brown is pushing for something in writing: Delta hub here may grow President cites low cost, major corporate clients BY KEITH T. REED | [email protected] Delta Air Lines' hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will survive Delta's merger with Northwest because of Cincinnati's presence of lucrative corporate travelers, low airport costs and room for airport expansion, one of its top executives said Thursday. "You have a very strong corporate base here," Delta president and chief financial officer Ed Bastian said in a roughly hourlong meeting with the Enquirer editorial board. He discussed the rationale for the merger, the state of the airline industry and the future of employment and service locally. "Toyota being a hugely important customer of ours, Procter & Gamble being a huge, important customer of ours, this is why we've described this as an opportunity for growth, primarily on the international side of the business," he said. Bastian also noted that CVG has lower landing fees than airports in bigger cities and has many available gates at a time when other airports are growing too congested. In an earlier briefing at the airport, Bastian told reporters that service out of CVG would likely expand to international destinations after the merger. For example, he said, the new airline could offer year-round service to Amsterdam, a major European gateway airport. Delta now serves Amsterdam from CVG only in summer. 12. I just picked up gyros from Chicago Gyros last week. They are better than the Greek store on Ludlow (Mediterranean something). I think my mouth is watering.

This is pretty treacherous territory for our hub. If we can somehow survive this round, it will be safe for a long time. As others have mentioned, there is concern they will close or at least downsize. We know Delta is not going to come right out and mention anything about cutting jobs to help gain government approval. I do know this would affect my company as we do a lot of travel, and I certainly like having non-stop to Paris, London, Frankfurt, Rome etc. If this goes through I guess we will know in 6 months to a year what the new airline's intentions are. Historically, besides the ridiculous fares, Delta has been good to our regional economy, and it seems they had the upper hand on this and will retain the HQ - maybe that history will count for something. If poor financial performance continues, our risk goes up, but if they stabilize they are more likely to live up to their promise of a "merger by addition". Who's next? The wave is coming.
  14. I love those DC neighborhoods - I am surprised Heaven and Hell is still there - it always seemed like a make-shift club to me.

I think this was mentioned, but I remember this one. The final race make no sense - I think the name comes from a road on the west side. I actually lived 2 minutes from Krohn conservatory where a scene was filmed. Also, nice shots around Longworth Hall and the bridges by it.

Two wins already in the bottom of the ninth, which is usually a good indicator of how resilient the team is going to be. Granted, if they have to come from 3-4 down regularly it will not be good, but there are going to be a lot of close games this year. I like the signs so far - today they were down 3-2 and scored 1 in the eighth to tie and 1 in the ninth to win it.
  17. Good win and it beats the CBI championship. Number 66 in 2008!
  18. I somehow missed these photos - what a great day. Things are starting to move in the "core", and I am more excited about downtown overall than I have been in awhile. I also heard that the intial phase will cost around $74 million, but they have a line of credit of $96 million just in case. This development team was also able to get this in a challenging economy so as long as the space fills they should have no problem with future phases.
  19. This does not seem likely to me as 5/3 has made it clear they are concentrating on the Southeast and Chicago. It seems they already have enough of a presence in the Midwest and this would bulk up that region even more. One interesting take is potentially having multiple buyers take pieces, which might make a sale more likely. It could be that nothing happens, but with all the press from NC they must be pushing hard for a sale. Personally, I think it would be great to increase the overall size of 5/3, but I am not too keen on one Ohio bank buying another. We all saw what NC did to the Provident HQ when they bought them - the overall number of jobs in the state goes down.

I did - what an abrupt turnaround. He looked terrible on that at bat until that last pitch, which made the homerun more surprising. They won again today with Cueto striking out 10 in his first start in the majors - if that is an indication of his skill the Reds have found a pretty solid third starter.
  21. Yikes - UCLA is obviously a great team, but it seemed Xavier play as if they were tense from the start. And UCLA probably played their best game of tournament. I guess that is why they have been to 19 Final Fours. Hats off to X for a great season and their Elite Eight run. Hopefully they get over the hump in the 2009-10 season when they are supposed to be loaded. The ESPN page is running slow so here is the local take. Everywhere we went was packed so at least the game was good for bar business:
  22. I am happy Cincy is trending back in line with the US - I think these next few years are going to be important and telling as the area continues to shed jobs in the sectors at risk and the growth sectors become more prominent.
  23. Wow what a game - I actually feel a little bad for Huggins. Having gone to school at UC and Xavier (along with OSU), I have rooted for UC for many years. This might sound weird, but sometimes it seems like he is cursed in the tournament. WVU fought from 18 down and was up 6 in OT at one point, then later Xavier inbounds the ball with 2 seconds on the shot clock and hits a wide open 3. This is not to say I am not happy Xavier won - they played tough when it counted most against a very good team.
  24. I know this is difficult on the families and the lifers at Ford, but it is better to shed the jobs in areas that seem to be in slow death spiral. For Clermont County, for example, they are losing a total of 1400 jobs with Ford (about half were already gone). On the other hand TQL is expanding rapidly and Tata is creating 1000 jobs this year. This can be painful, but the sooner the economy switches to jobs with better future prospects, the sooner jobs like this will stop dragging on the overall growth. Of course I would not say this to the current employees.

Apparently they did restate the numbers as population was added to Hamilton County last year. It looks like Cleveland was also restated in 2006, from 2,114,000 to 2,105,000 - I had not heard of that change.
