Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
It is hard to get behind a loan for such a cheesy bar, but I will go with the more variety/options the better view. I liked the piece on the attorney returning to Cincy after law school (and undergrad) from DC. I was just there again for Thanksgiving and it is definitely a haven for the young, mobile, and educated crowd.

Congrats Votto! Almost a clean sweep on the voting - as Bruce and Stubbs mature as hitters this offense should have a good nucleus for a few years.

Ha - perspective is a funny thing. When I first registered to this site (CincinnatiUprise) it seemed so much more innocent, and nerdy, yet somehow sophisticated. I think I was doing a short stint out of country when this was rumored/announced, but it was around the birth of my second daughter. For her, the completion of this building was literally a lifetime away. While it obviously has some shortcomings I am glad it is complete, and my only advice is to turn to the side for photos ;).

Cincinnati Census Predicitions
I think the distinction is that no one in those cities is legally required to pay the salaries of P&G employees, whereas they are for state employees in Columbus. Overall, most cities do not get the ROI from the state, while Columbus benefits with thousands of jobs. Columbus would not be propping up other cities as much as the jobs everyone has to pay for would be located elsewhere. I am not saying the current setup it is right or wrong - it is just the way it is with being a state capital in today's environment. As far as the census, I'll go with 331,313.

Favorite Music At The Moment?
Music like this restores my faith in its future. Reanimation theme included without too much synth...you get it.

Well the tiara definitely looks great at night - nice job on the lighting. It delivers on the promise of what it could be and makes me wonder if anything else could have been done to the daytime appearance.

San Marco shows he has a sense of humor, as well as belated scale, and chooses a 750' needle.

Franchise Re-location
The NBA does not seem like a good investment at this time - does anyone really think that Oklahoma City and New Orleans (not to mention the more obvious ones) can support the expenses into the future? Seattle not batting an eye when the Sonics left speaks volumes. I heard today as a league they are looking to cut collective salaries by a third. Tough times circa pre-Johnson and Bird are ahead. And if Cincy ever has an inclination to build a new arena I would point out there are opportunities downtown, west of 75 - the Linn St. area.

Not worried about the article at all.

Philly Hack/Shock Writer Rips Cincinnati
I think Casey had it right - overall it seemed to have a light-hearted tone. I add that if people here get upset about it we really might not be a "big league" town. However, if this forum is going to open up for direct pot-shots please let us all know. This started off as like-minded individuals interested in all things urban. If we are now supposed to agree with and comment on all national opinion pieces that are negative I am fine with following suit. It could be fun.

I am trying to reserve judgement until everything is done, but I think ultimately the thread count on the tiara will be a little low.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
While I am bummed by the Reds performance in the playoffs, I am thankful for a great season this year. Game 2 with all of the what if's is the thing that will bother me for a long time. Hopefully the Reds can build on this season. How about a number 1 starter in the offseason? BTW - when I was watching Utley's homerun I was screaming for the fans to back off. I was actually thinking if I had been there I would have yanked the idiots away from the ball - at least in my imagination.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
Two horrible performances in a row. This team just does not know how to take advantage of situations, and they are squarely behind the 8 ball. Palmer is obviously one of the goats, but his wideouts didn't exactly help him on the last 2 interceptions. Why can't this team stay focused? The incessant false starts seem to be an indication of larger control issues. I almost forgot - I have to give the Enquirer credit for their headline on a front-page blurb: "Bengals melt down, choke and implode", which made me laugh out loud.

Volquez should have never started game 1, for example. Without going into details that decision alone set the ball in motion to where we are now. Obviously the Reds' players fumbled last night's game away, but it still does not mean the right decisions were made by the manager.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Wow - I have been off on my expectations for a multitude of reasons. As much as I loved Jose Rijo's performance in 90, I absolutely have hated Baker's decisions to this point. It's easy to look forward to next year, but having seen championships I realize how rare they are. Go Reds.

I don't think any team was going to hit him tonight...bad start indeed.

Volquez obviously was not ready to pitch - he was tantalizingly close to getting out of the second with no runs, but fell apart with 2 outs giving up 3 more. The way Halladay is pitching the Phillies might only need 1 run though - he is ridiculous right now.

Alright - does it not look like something is going on at the base of the west side of the tiara? I not sure how much it will cover, but it looks vaguely like the base of the rendering.

I thought about it because I had mentioned this to friends. I also have a good feeling about the playoffs but do not want to jinx anything at this point so we'll see. Great news for Dusty Baker today, and it was nice to see people turn out for the Reds rally prior to heading to Philly. You should've bet money on that!

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
The Reds just wrapped up the regular season with a 91-71 record so I thought I would give myself a little credit. There are definitely some parallels with 1990 - regardless of what happens I am pretty excited to see some playoff baseball in Cincinnati.
-
Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
Well, overall that was pretty pitiful. The Bengals just cannot lose to 0-3 teams if they want to do anything this year. T.O. was a bright spot, and it will be interesting to see how they respond after this.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Amen - I would like to find out who the d-bags were that would even complain. The celebration was pretty standard. Some people really need to get a life - interlopers are ridiculous. Of more concern to me is the fact that the Reds did not put away the Brewers when they had multiple opportunities. I officially declare that the Reds should always take Gomes down in a situation where you absolutely need to move a runner over, or at least put the ball in play. Unless somebody quickly enlightens him to the term "shorten your swing". The Health Department said nothing would probably come of the situation and that further action was unlikely. They understand what was going on. There are always some annoying nitpicky people out there, unfortunately.

Cincinnati: Xavier University dedicates the new Hoff Academic Quad
Xavier continues to raise their profile - these are truly transformational developments. As I have mentioned I think the last piece will be creating a "college town" area on the donated land from BASF. Bars and restaurants basically on campus would be awesome.
