Sorry for such a late response, that's correct preservation restoration, it is now a performing arts center. They did an excellent job. Just thought you guys would be interested to know that the courthouse in Howell is going to serve as a backdrop for the movie "Betty Anne Waters" starring Hillary Swank. It is a legal thriller based on a true story.

- Detroit: Demolition Watch
6 dilapidated downtown buildings owned by the Illitch family's Olympia Development are going to be demolished but they will be saving the facade of the Fine Arts/Adams Theatre Building. It will be saved because of an agreement with the city's Historic District Commission. Olympia will pick up the tab for the estimated $500,000 facade stabilization. I was in the D today so I went a little picture crazy with this building. Some history http://www.forgottendetroit.com/adams/history.html- Architecture Conference in Denver Part 9 (Final)
ProkNo5, thanks so much for the tours! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially this one and City Park. I love how they kept "Historic 9th Street" and are using the buildings.- Mansfield: Park Avenue West
Great homes, some of the additions make me want to cry though- Medway, Ohio
It's huge!!- Jackson, Michigan- Under the Oaks
Under the Oaks is a historic district with many great houses. Unfortunately I only had time to photograph and very small portion of it. Next week I will be photographing it more thoroughly though. There is a historical marker in the neighborhood which reads "On July 6, 1854, a state convention of anti-slavery men was held in Jackson to found a new political party. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" had been published two years earlier, causing increased resentment against slavery, and the Kansas-Nebraska Act of May, 1854, threatened to make slave states out of previously free territories. Since the convention day was hot and the huge crowd could not be accommodated in the hall, the meeting adjourned to an oak grove on "Morgan's Forty" on the outskirts of town. Here a state-wide slate of candidates was selected and the Republican Party was born. Winning an overwhelming victory in the elections of 1854, the Republican party went on to dominate national parties throughout the nineteenth century."- Jackson, Michigan
I went back to Jackson last month, I was visiting a friend whose school is just a few miles away form the city. Make sure to check out my Jackson thread from October 2006. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,10679.0.html My pictures start out with me pretty much driving down random streets seeing what I can find. Jackson is really well known around the state (along with Ionia) for having a lot of prisons.- Cincinnati & Detroit, 2008
