I could see Dolan or Portman as a logical choice. I don't have any special insight, other than that I think it will depend on what Dewine's future plans are. I was curious who the betting markets are thinking are most likely. They don't seem to have Portman, not sure why. Timken is viewed as fairly likely, but I don't see being discussed above.
  2. Interesting conversation above, but it should probably be moved to a more appropriate thread...

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but there is a 0% chance that the City of Cleveland would even try to maintain a 450 acre park. They would hand it over to the Metroparks who has both the funds and experience to create and maintain a large park like this.
  4. ... I'm torn between appreciating the realistic and attainable nature of the changes, and thinking that this isn't a significant enough change to bother doing. Without closing the road, I don't see this as making much of a difference in the daily activation of the square. Big difference from zero, which is the number of people using the square now, so it's not nothing, but it does feel more like a facelift than what was promised by the original proposal.
  5. Cool video arguing for bringing back Art Deco skyscrapers. The last couple of minutes seem to be a bit of an add for the photography book he's releasing, but regardless it's a cool video. I'd love to see more skyscrapers built like this.
  6. No idea if it's allowed, but this has been going on consistently for years. I believe mostly on Sundays as Willo mentioned.
  7. You're entitled to your opinion, but why? These look like the sort of rowhouses common in Europe, just with a more American aesthetic. To my mind, these are basically condos, but stacked horizontally instead of vertically. No real back yard, but the postage stamp front yard, might make a big difference to a dog owner.
  8. Can't read the article, but seeing as the state, and the DOT in particular, would likely be on the hook for millions of dollars in addition to any domed stadium contribution it makes sense why they'd oppose it. Edit: Non paywalled version: https://fox8.com/news/i-team/i-team-ag-wants-to-intervene-in-cleveland-browns-lawsuit/ It looks like the primary started reason is defending the constitutionality of the law.
  9. Frame shifting is exactly what's happening... -- Anyways, Crains is trying to rain on the Burke stadium parade. They're right of course. Four reasons why a domed stadium at Burke probably won’t happen https://www.crainscleveland.com/sports-recreation/why-domed-stadium-browns-burke-unlikely#/Echobox=1730241801
  10. Crains article on the Browns planned mixed use development. Renderings included. https://www.crainscleveland.com/sports-recreation/browns-spend-150-million-district-46-berea#/Echobox=1730224908

Hopefully this succeeds, and with fewer hitches, delays, and budget overruns than its Californian counterpart. If successful, I could see this being expanded into the US at a later date. Both Toronto to Chicago (through Detroit) and Toronto to New York (through Upstate) have been found to be potentially viable in gravity models and such. For that matter so has Montreal to New York. Clearly crossing international boundaries adds another layer of complexity, and it's far from certain this project will even get off the ground, but still it's fun to hope for.
  12. Pretty renderings, but is there actually enough parking in it to (1) mollify the Haslams, and (2) to actually support a stadium. This looks to be a net negative in terms of surface lots (possibly a push). The Haslams have expressed a desire for more parking, and this is further from the downtown core, meaning fewer parking options are within a short to medium length walk. I'm obviously not opposed to removing surface lots, I'm just questioning whether or not this proposal is a serious proposal, or merely a PR proposal. It seems like it was designed to be leaked, not as a serious proposal to the Haslams.
  13. Fun youtube short video praising the Van Aken district.
  14. Perhaps, but I suppose they need someway to justify the price of these compared to the many single/dual family homes in the nearby area. Being new is nice, and these have decent square footage, good layouts, modern finishes/plumbing etc. But if I were to ask what really distinguishes these developments from the surrounding homes, I'd probably say modern HVAC and the three car garage. Also, it just makes sense with how they've laid out the floor plans. I imagine it will become a bonus space, workshop/crafting room, etc for a lot of people, but there are probably also people who want a large garage in a walkable, hip area, who may be willing to sacrifice a yard. That's not a market that's really served anywhere else that I can think of. It may not be a large market, but there's only five townhomes.
  15. I want to know how you're getting to Toronto in three hours, but otherwise, this is basically the right answer. Add in Cleveland being overrepresented by professional sports teams already relative to population and having stagnant population growth and you have the rest of the answer. In soccer Columbus is probably partially responsible for keeping us out of the MLS, and Detroit and Pittsburgh might squeeze us out of USL. I'm just glancing at maps though, I don't claim to be an expert.
  16. Interesting editorial from Crains, basically suggesting negotiations are more ongoing than they appear. Even the Model law they post is likely intended more for negotiation leverage than fully intended to go to trial. https://www.crainscleveland.com/commentary/crains-editorial-driving-stadium-leverage
  17. To be fair, most of these are four bedroom, given that it's student housing, I'd expect one person per bedroom, not one per unit. Per bedroom there is about 1.44 spots, or 148 extra spots, intended for retail component. Either way, it seems like too much parking.
  18. I'm sympathetic to this argument, kids should absolutely have more freedom, be able to walk a mile home alone, go to pick up milk, ride transit by themselves, etc. But this is a bar. I know they use the term brewery and they serve some food, but it's mostly a bar (and a pretty good one). Kids can't drink. This isn't an issue of kids being allowed to be independent. If anything this is more of a discriminating against parents thing, but even then... There aught to be some places in society that are meant for adults, not kids, and not even families. Bars seem like a great fit for that category. Totally fine with this decision. If other bars wish to follow suit, or not, I think that's fine. They should be able to make this decision for themselves without social censor either way.
  19. I don't remember, or I never saw, the original design, but this would make more sense, and feel better, with a parking garage. Knocking down 11 house to build a surface parking lot doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth. It almost seems like the housing complex is a cover to allow them to create this parking lot. With a garage they could leave most of these houses up, and give the apartments (and houses) a bit more of a green buffer. They'd probably even have more parking at the end of it. I know it's always easy to suggest the developer spend more of their own money, and that structured parking is much more expensive, but yeah, seems worth it in this case.
  20. Interesting video from Fox8. Not much info, but an interesting statement that the target of 60% publicly accessible land will not change if the stadium opens up. https://fox8.com/video/what-happens-to-the-lakefront-now/10143476
  21. Actual building looks fine. But that site plan... Mostly just a parking lot. And I feel kind of bad for that holdout house. No idea if the holdout house changed the design, or if it would have just been more parking.
  22. I think the Browns leaving NEO is very unlikely. After all the trouble the league went through to bring the Browns back to Cleveland, I think the Haslams would encounter a lot of resistance from the NFL at large if they tried to move the Browns out of Cleveland.
  23. I know these aren't popular here, but... I think this intersection would be a good location for one of those catwalk style pedestrian overpasses. With two (and possibly now three) stadiums, and being basically at the intersection point of two highways, I don't see this intersection being meaningfully dieted anytime soon. It's not a perfect solution, it doesn't help bikes or the disabled (unless you add elevators, but those are bulky and may not fit), but it would make the intersection much more navigable for a lot of people. I could potentially see some demand for apartments along Orange/Ontario if something like this existed. Particularly if it was coupled with the linear park/bikeway that has been proposed before for Ontario. The proximity of that area to downtown is great, but without a reasonably walkable way to get there, proximity isn't useful.
