  1. In case anyone is interested.
  2. Another Riverfront meeting for anyone who didn't attend the first one. https://m.facebook.com/events/744876970414514/
  3. Ethan replied to KJP's post in a topic in Railways & Waterways
Have train derailments always been this common and the media has only recently started covering them, or is the recent frequency truly unusual?
  4. I guess my thought isn't so much about the airport, as it is the relative uselessness of the waterfront line in its current incarnation, and the TOD potential of the red line stops up through W117 assuming 5 minute redline frequency.
  5. I'm having the (possibly heretical) thought that best use of this new train flexibility might be to just run all the east side trains to the airport all the time. Frequency on the west side would be fantastic (three fifteen minute frequencies on east side should equal five minute frequency on west side). The waterfront line would always require a transfer, but honestly even if they leave waterfront line closed it might still be more beneficial to have the high frequency on the west side. (Particularly if they add a stop between W25 and W65). And no, I don't live on the west side. Just a thought, I'd be interested to hear an opposing argument from one of the many people better informed than me on this forum.
  6. So basically every East Side line will run half the time to the airport and half the time to the Muni lot? How will this impact frequency? Are more trains running, or the same, just with varied end destinations? Will this result in greater frequency on the west side due to having four lines running on what is now the west branch of one line?
  7. Mad props to whoever decided to add the steel art-deco-ish design to the planters on Huron outside the Landmark building! It's a small touch, but these small little details go so far. More of this attention to detail please! They also draw attention to, and compliment, the landmark building, which is a very underappreciated building Also, they added seating outside of the Prospect entry to Tower City.
  8. There's an emerging idea I've seen bandied about to escape this cyclical trend in the name of sustainability. It's wasteful to tear a building down merely because it isn't in style anymore. To that end, crafting a building that will still be considered appealing in 100 years is important. The only way to do that is to go deeper than current styles and trends. To do that, you have to analyze what aesthetics appeal to humans on a psychological level. I posted a video in Architecture: the good, the bad, and the ugly that talks about this and some of the findings.
  9. Some City Club pics. Bonus SW peeking out in the first one.
  10. God, I love the MetroParks! That's a great article! So several more sections have been funded, that's fantastic! Thanks for the info, I must have forgot most of that article.
  11. I found this old map from 2019 and I am/was curious about the progress. Below is my write up on the progress on all 16 of these routes in the past 3-4 years. There's gaps in my knowledge, and in some areas I might be wrong, so hopefully those better informed than me can correct and/or better inform me. 1) Towpath, complete 🥳 2) I think the N Marginal section of the lakefront Bikeway has started the design/approval process. I haven't heard anything about the other sections. 3) Superior Midway, moving forward (slowly) 4) already was complete 5) OC section complete, no movement on anything else as far as I'm aware 6) Slavic Village Downtown Connector, still seems like it's going to happen, but it doesn't really seem like we're any closer than in 2019. 7) Morgana Run Trail, I know nothing about this. 8) Garfield Park Connector, I'm pretty sure I saw funding allocated for this in a Metroparks agenda not too long ago (edit: see my Dec 14th post upthread). 9) Sagamore Connector, I have looked for more info on this and found little. I'm hoping someone knows something about this one. 10) West Creek Greenway, I have no knowledge about this. 11) Treadway Creek, I haven't seen anything about these sections 12) Lower Big Creek Connector, the underway section here is Brighton park and is completed. No progress on the rest. 13) Brookdale to Big Creek, to my knowledge no progress. 14) Red Line Greenway, complete! 🥳 15) Lorain Cycle Track, same as midway, moving forward at a snails pace. 16) Centennial Lake Link Trail, all underway sections are complete, all planned sections now underway. All in all progress is visible, most of the routes listed as underway in 2019 are now complete, and a few planned areas are now underway.
  12. I believe this is what @Whipjacka referring to. Though this article just came up today, so it could also be this. Hart Crane Park is technically separate from Rivergate, but it's possible the boat slips will continue through Hart Crane Park, and that could be why the sheet pile bulkhead needed replaced. I don't know, just speculating. Public boat slips to be installed on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland "Cleveland Metroparks, which operates Rivergate Park at Merwin’s Wharf and Heritage Park further downstream near the Center Street bridge, is installing 18 public boat slips that should be ready for use in another six to eight weeks." https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/03/public-boat-slips-to-be-installed-on-the-cuyahoga-river-in-cleveland.html
  13. 4-6 pm on a weekday? That seems like a great time to pick if you don't actually want anyone to attend.
  14. Cool drone video. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CqUBYpApgAY/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
  15. City Club Apartments will soon be the tallest City Club building on the block.
  16. I was there. Not too much new information. It was mostly a listening session, they are looking for feedback. I'm not sure if they've shown a timeline for this year yet, but they aim to have approval by the end of this year. See below for an email if anyone wants to submit comments.
  17. I was just thinking how good of a spot for a car wash Steelyard is a few days ago! Probably one of the few places frequented by most vehicle owners in the urban core. Makes a lot of sense. I hope whoever develops lots 4/5 does so with recognition of the towpath trail that runs right past. A restaurant with a small patio would be great, but even just a minimal amount of landscaping serving as a buffer to the inevitable parking lot would make a big difference. That stretch of the towpath is already pretty subpar, more parking lot adjacent riding won't do it any favors.
  18. Playhouse Square refinances $50 million on The Lumen tower "The latest loan replaced a construction loan, also from Key, which was due to expire in June, according to Cindi Szymanski, Playhouse Square spokesperson. She said the rate for the new loan is for a little more than 5%. The construction loan was for $55 million, but she said the foundation paid down the debt by $5 million. ... " "The time wasn't quite right last year," Szymanski said, as the property is now 98% leased while it was 94% last year, just shy of the 95% rate that secures the best sale terms. She said the foundation does not need to sell the property and intends to retain it at this time. It may explore selling the structure in three to five years if it can obtain what it considers appropriate value for the property." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/lumen-tower-cleveland-nets-50-million-refinancing
  19. What are you basing this on? My quick Google search suggests the opposite. I see a little over 20k for Oakland and a little under 10k for UC.
  20. This is ridiculous... I understand maintenance is necessary, but public transit that can't be relied upon is next to useless. I feel like the message this communicates to anyone relying on RTA for transportation is "consider getting a car, because you can't rely on RTA." Anyways... hopefully they get whatever maintenance they need done, and don't need more for a while.
  21. I completely agree with you about the garages. That said, assuming the sides of the houses have windows the side lawns are not a complete waste. There won't be any view to speak of, but they will still let in natural light. It also creates an outdoor path to the backyard. Not saying it's better use of the space than just building townhouses, but I can see tradeoffs. Also, a large communal green space sounds like a huge improvement, and it most cases it would be, unless you move in and hate your neighbors... I'd be interested to see how this could be laid out with one ten car garage. Instead of five two car garages.
