I haven't been following this project closely at all. Can anyone summarize for me why people on this forum aren't interested in or excited about it?

Is it possible Bridgeworks is a victim of the success of Ohio City / Hingetown? It's hard to be transformational in an already hot neighborhood.

Thanks! I've probably wondered over 100 times why that section of the roof slopes downward! It hindsight it all seems pretty obvious.

Does anyone have any good photos of CUT or Tower City before it's renovations when "long pedestrian ramps descended from the Public Square entrance into the station." I'm too young to remember this.

They aren't very clear on this point, but I think the idea is that this would become an outdoor space for some or all of it. As such, I'm guessing the idea is for the roof to be mostly transparent. Still, I like your idea. I'd just like some more details. Which I'm guessing we won't be getting.

Here's Crain's article on it. The most interesting tidbit might be the amount of changes and demolition that would be required at Tower City. "At the eastern end of the site, near Ontario Street, another series of steps would help pedestrians navigate the slope. And in the middle, a reimagined Tower City Center could act as a grand corridor linking Public Square to the riverbank, with an indoor shopping area giving way to a lengthy covered porch. That approach will require Bedrock to demolish the middle, or Public Square, level of the mall to create a much more open, central space. Does anyone else, not really... like it...? Not much to go off right now, but nothing I have seen is wowing me at all. Happy to be have someone change my mind. Also, does anyone have a top down view of proposed uses?

People here seem very invested in keeping the windows, and fair enough. My question is, how likely is it that CPD will decide bullet resistant glass is a necessary component for the renovation? Also, I'm assuming central heating and cooling will be a part of any renovation? Is that included in "all new building systems"? @KJP I'm assuming so, just want to confirm. Great article by the way.

I was suggesting something like they have at Lincoln Electric (though maybe not quite that extreme). Give every single employee a bonus based on the official ridership numbers. A significant amount too, like 10-30% of their pay. This would never happen, as the city would have to reduce their base pay to afford it, but I bet it would have an impact.

Would ridership bonuses help? Maybe they already have them, but if a large portion of employees' (or at least top execs') pay was based on actual ridership numbers that seems like it would help to re-align incentives

Thanks! So basically while turnout is down from 2018, it is still very high relative to the historic baseline. The data from the battleground States are interesting. Michigan, which experienced a blue wave, only had 10% youth vote, but Texas, which moved back towards the red team had 15% youth vote. That's only two data points of course, but I don't see much of a trend line on a state to state basis.

Do you have any evidence for this? The exit polling data I've seen has the 18-29 year old demographic having decreased participation from either 2020 or 2018. Thanks for the response! I more or less agree with a lot of this, but the one point I want to disagree with is that I think there's a huge difference between people coming down to the Casino, and people in on-campus housing. The difference being that on campus students are choosing to live downtown. If CSU can convert a few thousand commuters into residents it will make a huge difference, even if they stick to skywalks for most school functions. They'll still venture out to restaurants, bars, and entertainment FAR more than the average commuter will, and the area will look less like a ghost town when school isn't in session as these students will likely still be here on weekends and some holidays.

I'm probably the only one on this forum, but I think the skywalk makes sense. The whole point of this master plan is to have more students living on campus. Being able to get to the library without going outside at 9pm in the middle of January is a big selling point, and may help to persuade some fence sitting students (or parents) who have comfort or security concerns. More people downtown is good for the health of downtown, and if a skywalk helps with that, then I'm all for it.
