Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
@LibertyBlvdSure it is, check out Israel. They do this literally everywhere. I've been meaning to add some pictures of there from my recent-ish trip to the lessons from other cities/countries thread. Edit: Literally every bed looks like this.

I'd rather focus on the improvements the committees have been able to push SW into, in particular, the East end of Frankfort.

Weird Real Estate Listings
It just sold, a bit over asking price too. I toured this place, fascinating place to walk through, but it looks like a massive money pit. It's in poor condition, the layout is weird, and the price is very high for the neighborhood. Hopefully whoever bought it will appropriately restore it.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
Interesting article about the race in the WSJ. Ohio’s Ryan Offers Potential Road Map for Democrats Struggling in Rust Belt PORTSMOUTH, Ohio—Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan’s competitive bid for U.S. Senate in a Republican stronghold is offering his party a potential model for appealing to working-class voters in the Rust Belt and forcing Republicans to expend resources to beat him. Mr. Ryan, who avoids calling himself a Democrat, has broken with his party in opposing President Biden’s student-debt forgiveness plan and says Democrats erred in pushing for many Americans to get college degrees. Mr. Ryan frequently mentions that he agrees with former Republican President Donald Trump’s tough stance on China trade policies, and has criticized Mr. Biden for considering rolling back some of Mr. Trump’s import tariffs. ... https://www.wsj.com/articles/ohios-ryan-offers-potential-road-map-for-democrats-struggling-in-rust-belt-11664616604

Canal Basin Park and Lake Link Trail
Sad to see the trees go. Hopefully their update to this space is enough to justify the loss of several mature trees.

Urban Trees
Downtown Cleveland Alliance has started a volunteer "green team," focused on beautifying downtown. It looks like they have tree audits coming for Gateway and the warehouse district. I'll try to attend. https://downtowncleveland.com/downtown-green-team Edit: It goes without saying, that I encourage anyone who cares about having a beautiful downtown to consider volunteering.

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
Plus city leaders can point to them and say they've developed "bike infrastructure", but without having to do anything to actually make the city easier to bike in.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Every generation is sure they won't become their parents. And yet, basically every generation grows up to be like their parents. It's not guaranteed, but it's a good bet.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
I'd think it's probably more than that on average. You also benefit from a more direct flight path, one less time taxiing and landing, and fewer chances for disruptions. Plus, if you fancy a trip to Ireland, it's now doable over an extended weekend. I'll probably use the direct flight as an excuse to visit Ireland sooner than I otherwise might have.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
"CLEVELAND, Ohio — In a drive to take full ownership of an effort to reshape highways, transit and public spaces on the downtown lakefront, the City of Cleveland announced Wednesday it is embarking on a new master plan for the area. The new planning process, on which the administration of Mayor Justin Bibb is prepared to spend up to $500,000, will last a year and is intended to add a broader design vision and public perspective to the new civic effort to better connect downtown to Lake Erie" https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/09/city-of-cleveland-seeking-consultants-for-new-downtown-lakefront-master-plan-with-broader-scope-than-haslam-proposal.html

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
There seems to be a lot of ignorance on introversion in this thread. If anyone is interested in decreasing their ignorance, Quiet, by Susan Cain is an informative and approachable book that I personally enjoyed. Failing that, please just realise that introversion is not a choice nor is it an unhealthy compulsion. People are different, and that's okay.

Cleveland Metroparks: The Emerald Necklace
It looks like the plan is to keep it as a golf course, but hopefully they plant a few more trees. https://www.crainscleveland.com/sports-business/cleveland-seeks-proposals-revitalizing-highland-park-golf-course https://www.clevescene.com/news/city-of-cleveland-wants-to-make-highland-park-a-tournament-ready-golf-course-40442201

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
Not mine, but someone posted a future Cleveland metro system map on Reddit. It looks very pie-in-the-sky to me, and perhaps a bit optimistic for the stated budget, but it seems like the poster genuinely put a lot of thought into it, and I figured some of the people on here would enjoy looking over it.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I love this shape... But I HATE this elevation! One of the main benefits to the land bridge is connecting some of the biggest tourist draws of downtown Cleveland to the city center. It won't effectively do that if it basically ends in a roof overlook. If we are going to reroute the roads in this area anyway, then let's do so in a way that allows us to 'land' the land bridge at ground level with a gentle slope right to the Rock Hall. I think this is actually a step backwards from the Green Ribbon Coalitions previous proposal, largely due to the fact that they did terminate at ground level. It looks to me like GRC proposal is bending over backwards to both keep the shoreway, as well as accommodate the Rock Hall's expansion plans as designed. Perhaps, if we remove Erieside Ave, as in the Haslam's plan, there will be space to properly land the land bridge. Even if not, removing the Shoreway also opens up additional land for development that could be used for a Rock Hall expansion.

Other Countries: Passenger Rail News
It's interesting the extent by which these isochrones conform to national boundaries. It confirms a lot of what is said in this video, which is an interesting look at some of the positive impacts of EU rail deregulation, as well as a positive look toward the future.

Non-Ohio Transit News & Discussion
So it looks like this is the initial proposal, but it was later scaled down to this: 2018 proposal: https://www.metrolink.ie/assets/downloads/Report_on_Consultation_on_Emerging_Preferred_Route.pdf 2019 proposal: https://www.metrolink.ie/assets/downloads/Public_Consultation_Document_for_the_Preferred_Route_HR.pdf

Non-Ohio Transit News & Discussion
This is great! But why is it so many of these article don't include the one thing I am most interested in--a map! https://www.metrolink.ie/#/map ^I believe this is the proposed route.

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Cleveland Whiskey seems like they have the potential to be such a solid anchor tenant! I know they're new to the hospitality business, and I'm actually not enthralled with their whiskey. But they seem to have the money, and they clearly really believe in the location! I'm excited for their eventual opening!
