  1. but wasn’t it much cheaper back then to build things? Interest rates are reaching similar highs but labor and materials costs are much different
  2. How do developers still have the resources to get financing and loans with these high interest rates? Is it still cost efficient to build anything? Especially since interest rates are still going up in December and the foreseeable future?
  3. In July the first Lutheran church and Otr A.D.O.P.T. came to an agreement to stabilize the bell tower. So I’m assuming the scaffolding is for stabilization purposes. I hate the needless crap that Otr A.D.O.P.T. is doing with the elm and Liberty appeals, but this is one that they genuinely got right.
  4. Fusian has closed their vine st location downtown. Definitely get the impression we are still burning quite a lot of spots downtown/Otr and aren’t nearly keeping up with the same level of pace with replacing them.
  5. What was the new banks tenant?
  6. Looks like some major changes are being proposed for Main Street. https://www.facebook.com/groups/mainstreetotr/permalink/10158585422801831/ did anyone attend the meeting?
  7. Otr update last night. the cops presence in otr seemed less intense. Main was obviously blocked off once again and no cars were allowed to park on the street. noticed a lot of pedestrians taking advantage of the lack of cars on the streets and were literally walking right on the middle of the street. overall night life activity was a little bit improved compared to previous weekends, but still severely lacking. Both fcc and Bengals had games that night and Otr is usually hopping and bustling after the games but not so much last night. my guess it will take quite a few months for the public to “forget” about the mass shooting incident and to move on. I think clearly that’s probably what is causing the lack of night life since that incident is still probably fresh in a lot of people minds. overall though the streets let super safe. I know what cpd is doing controversial to some…but at the very least the new spot light towers with attached surveillance cameras and shot spotter create a new blanket of safety at least. ive noticed these popping around troubled spots on main, especially around Ziegler and various narrow alley ways. It’s smart and I’m hoping the crime reduction will continue. I’m hoping people will eventually return to Otr once they feel comfortable and safe again.
  8. I say the same thing about the former 16 hit spot, or the Columbia building for that matter. There is multiple tenant spots and the only one, o pie o is closing. 3cdc is struggling hard core right now with getting businesses to open in otr just purely judging by how many spots are sitting vacant for consecutive years now.
  9. nah what’s deterring people from coming is the violence and mass shooting. No one in their right mind would be excited to party in Otr after the crap that’s been occurring this past month in otr
  10. Not sure how to take this news…senate is being downgraded to a carry out window …and they specifically mention they are looking for a suburban spot for forty thieves… Not sure what’s going on with the ownership and Otr lately but there has definitely been a shift for their new restaurant concepts to go towards suburb location…not sure if that’s due to high rent in otr and bad foot traffic, but it’s disheartening that this ownership group was once such a pioneer for opening new concepts in otr has really shifted elsewhere
  11. again, tastell said this one page back; he lives in otr (last he said) and has better eyes and ears on the matter anyone. so not sure why I’m being singled out in this case, and everyone is ignoring what tastell said as well?
  12. didn’t conduct a census - this block party event was initially organized in camp Washington in a ware house storage area. This got shut down due to redevelopment of the site, and was thus moved to a new location in otr. Surely some are Otr residents but it’s clear that many are not.
  13. that’s funny considering must of the block party attendees aren’t from Otr either. Many of them used to live in otr though but were priced out and found cheaper housing else where…but if your going to use the argument that Otr isn’t a playground then the block parties attendees and organizers are fully making use of Otr as a playground.
  14. Why not make Main Street a total European woonerf? I think this could assist increase pedestrian traffic by shutting down traffic and maybe allowing for a Dora entertainment district. I know maybe local businesses will feel concerned about losing nearby parking for their customers, but I think customers will come in regardless and figure out how to use the nearby Ziegler parking garage and other nearby garages. I think the key is maybe not necessarily making Otr a police state guarded by swat and assault rifles and bullet proof vests, but maybe create an entertainment woonerf Dora district with entertainment offerings provided by 3cdc, with better street lighting, which could maybe help deter crime? it works in Europe…I know we have a slew of reasons why it might not work here, but why not give it a shot?
  15. Saturday night update…block parties are complete gone. Huge cops and swat presence. Otr felt dead honestly, but it was nice…felt super calm and was really relaxing to walk through. Hopefully this continues.
