  1. Sad. Feel like there aren’t to many fine dining experiences in otr left. Still boggles my mind how thunderdome can continuously pump out successful restaurant concept after successful restaurant concept in otr yet to so many others continuously fail. Hopefully the economy improves soon, and 3cdc can finally get tenants. I know the pandemic and inflation has taken a toll but you would think regardless that places like the old 16 bit spot or the old elm and iron spot would have some type of tenant by now…
  2. can you show where it says this? Looking in the auditor website and I don’t see anything.
  3. I hate when people say we can’t lure an nba team or an nhl team…we absolutely can. We have the largest metro area population in all of Ohio. We already have 3 major league sports teams…The only thing I’d argue is nba likes smaller markers with very little to no competition with other sport markets. Also, not sure how serious nba or nhl would reconsider expansion or relocation.
  4. Why is the port so incompetent? Was it always this way? 3cdc is the most reliable and competent developer in this city and in glad that it appears they are taking the reigns.
  5. This church started a shady save the bell campaign, rallied the community to save the tower, otr adopt found solutions and the church repeatedly rejected each solution….they were so dead set on making sure the tower was earth quake proof as part of the renovations that they ignored every other contractor estimate that said it was not needed…the church has shot themselves in the foot. I feel bad for the church community that goes there, but it sounds like they should find a new location that requires less upkeep of the building they occupy.
  6. What industry are y’all in because I need to apply for a better job in that case. Our company was affected hard by the pandemic and laid off a quarter of the company and we all received a cut in pay and didn’t receive any stabilization in pay till the beginning of 2021 and are only due for our next raise in early 2022…I work in the financial sector.
  7. I don’t care what anyone says but those prices are absolutely insane. Im not even treading on the fact that this stretch still sees consistent patches of violence and shootings thanks to tree house and company. 3,700 dollars? That is mid range nyc prices for some apartments/studios. This is Cincinnati, not a major metropolis, and I will be absolutely shocked to see this completely leased out without a major price reduction.
  8. Let’s not pretend the pandemic hasn’t played a huge role on essentially crippling the restaurant industry. I was able to get a reservation to Carlo and Johnny on NYE and that places is usually booked ahead for a good month or 2. When I was there eating dinner the restaurant was half empty (when it’s normally packed to the brim, especially on NYE). The current omicron spike is causing a lot of people to continue to shift from going out and rather eating at home and cooking/door dashing food. I’d also argue the current inflation is really hurting alot of average Americans. Wages aren’t exactly skyrocketing for customer service employees or those with average paying jobs…but grocery prices are becoming quite insane and a record number of people are now on government food assistance than ever before. Before you could maybe argue in some ways that certain places were cheaper to eat out and justify not grocery shopping as much - as a way to save money. Now both options suck. Food is just way too expensive now. My rent has also gone up 6 percent a record, for 2022, and when I called and asked why the steep increase they said it was because of the current inflation…same went for many of my other friends who rent. Life is really hard right now financially for many Americans. Many aren’t rushing to eat. Heck, some of them are barely rushing out the grocery stores anymore. Food insecurity has really become a huge problem in America and has now begun to really hit the middle class - working class American family harder than ever before in recent memory.
  9. not denying you but what are the 23 restaurants and bars that opened in otr? The list you linked is from a different article.
  10. Hey guys. I thought I’d express some thoughts on my mind. I won’t lie my interest in urban development has really waned over the past year. It really sucks because it’s a passion of mine but it’s really hard to be excited about things right now. The restaurant industry and service industry have been hit so hard because of Covid and labor and materials shortages and getting worse because of the new variant. Obviously this is also affecting the pace of new developments in otr. Things feel incredibly slow. I know there are still projects popping up here and there but it definitely is not like how it was back in 2019. New retail, restaurants and bars have also gone silent. There have been a few new openings here and there but again, nothing like how it used to be. I know this is all temporary and eventually things will rebound at some point but I must admit it’s been tough towards having a passion towards something and it just kind of being crushed because of our current situation with the pandemic and the current state of the economy. I really miss being excited for these new developments and the explosive growth our city had. I really hope that returns soon one day. It was really fun times.
  11. awesome! Glad to see Kenwood mall killing it like usual.
  12. Im confused…the fcc group of owners are comprised of billionaires who have connections and access to many developers and ways of financing. If they think the convention center hotel will affect their bid, then why don’t they try to offer to add some of their financing to the equation? Cincinnati, for a city of its size, has a crap ton of wealthy families who are very intertwined with city politics and high level political city figures. why don’t they do anything about it?
  13. Random..and not even sure this is the right thread for this. But tonight was the USA vs Mexico game at TQL stadium. It was the busiest I ever experienced downtown in my time living here. OTR was jam packed and the best part is how many tourists I spoke to. I was at the Pitch and a group I spoke to was from Italy who flew down just for the Match. Another group was from Ireland who was also here for the match and stayed in various Airbnb’s in otr. They we’re awesome folks and had such nice things to say about Cincinnati and otr from their short time visiting. Another group I met was from Canada and I also met people from NYC, Portland, and Seattle who flew down just for the match. Some have visited prior but for many it was their first time and told me they were surprised how much they enjoyed our city. I know there was a lot of controversy at first regarding the west end stadium…but I have to say I was so excited to see to many tourists from Europe and across the USA visiting our city for the very first time. I always had hope that the west end stadium would be more than just an stadium for fcc but a catalyst for other large matches and events that will attract tourists from across the world. I know it was just one night - but that one night - changed thousands of first time tourists impressions of this city for the better. And for that, I say thank you to the FCC ownership group and their ability to facilitate a new stadium in the west end and bring thousands of first time tourists to our city.
  14. I love this idea!
  15. Why doesn’t the city do something then? They are probably not oblivious to the operation. Clearly they can shut them down for multiple reasons. I don’t have issues with the horses. I think they add charm to the city landscape. I don’t know what kind of trauma it adds to the horses…obviously I feel bad if this traumatizes the horses. At the same time, let’s bot pretend the owner will just shut down operations and send these horses to some majestic blue grass farm. At the end of the day, the city needs to create better operating standards for urban farms with live stock and Chris seelbach should have pursued that avenue instead of outright trying to ban horses in the city.
  16. Well city council voted to keep the horses
  17. I mean are these people that will benefit our city with street car expansions? Historic preservation? Continue to strengthen development in our city? Do they believe I. affordable housing? How does this city council play out in the grand scheme of things in their identity.
  18. so can someone sum up how this balances our city council. Is this a positive? Negative?
  19. Troeros2 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
So in your opinion will Aftab ultimately be a net positive for Cincinnati? Is this someone we should be optimistic about?
  20. There’s still time. crooked good ‘ol boys committee will absolutely not be able to let a soon to be 2 loss Alabama team against Georgie in the playoffs.
  21. 3cdc updated their upcoming project website and added the Findlay rec center project. Seems like we are getting close to having something commence..hopefully early next year?
  22. Interesting. Just a slight tidbit…but the guest speaker who discussed the potential development for the Macy fountain square building was Rob Denham. He is the Senior Development Officer for Cincinnati Department of Community and Economic Development. I guess mistakes happen, but it would be odd to have so many details lost in translation like that (address, floors, parking, etc).
  23. http://www.ilivedowntown.com/upcoming-events/ it looks like there is a meeting today actually. Would be curious if this is brought up at all. Edit: sorry not today but Nov 9th
  24. Or maybe they are working on 2 projects? Not exactly odd. That said, I don’t really have a clue and I’m just a bystander in all of this. Obviously I’m basing a lot of this on what was shared through the news letter. The details don’t match between the 2 projects. That’s obvious. It’s not odd for one developer to work on multiple projects…that said it could be a mix up…who knows… It would be nice if someone could reach out to the downtown residential committee (from where that news letter originated from) and ask more info about when that video conference will be from the nyc developer and see if they can obtain more details that way.
