  1. This is great news and if they can fit 400 apartments into that building then wow. It'll be nice to have the Prospect side redeveloped to finish the stretch from E 4th to Ontario.
  2. Yeah, completely serious. I think it's uglier than ever, sorry. *shrugs* I agree that it is one fugly building but a cleaned building can't be worse than what is there now. Moving on. Thanks for correcting my opinion. smh... That statement was just my opinion...not an attempt to correct yours even though it sounded that way.

  4. There appears to be plans for a phase 3 which would include apartments or condos over a parking structure. So at least something could fill that void, hopefully sooner than 20 years from now.
  5. I agree too. Don't get me wrong, extremely happy that Phase 2 is going ahead, but we have all these out buildings with huge parking lots separating them. It will have a suburban feel until the development plan is completed. I see they added the office building north of PHase 1, that wasn't originally planned.
  6. Cibreo, Red the Steakhouse in Cleveland progressing to fall openings: Restaurant Row CLEVELAND – Two of Northeast Ohio's most successful restaurateurs have splashy new restaurants heading for downtown Cleveland: Scott Kuhn’s Cibreo Italian Kitchen, 1438 Euclid Ave. on PlayhouseSquare, and Brad Friedlander’s Red The Steakhouse, 417 Prospect Ave., around the corner from East Fourth Street. Neither spot will open until fall: the respective debuts are projected for September and October. Given the high profile stature of both restaurants and their operators, an update seems in order. For those unacquainted, a few words about the restaurant groups these newbies will be born into. Under the Red Restaurant Group banner, Friedlander and his business partner, executive chef Jonathan Bennett, operate Moxie The Restaurant in Beachwood and three other Red restaurants, in Beachwood, Boca Raton, Florida and that state's trendy South Beach area. Kuhn heads the Driftwood Restaurant Group, which runs Hodges (with celebrity chef Chris Hodgson) and Washington Place Bistro in Cleveland, Welshfield Inn in Troy Township, Orchard House in Brunswick, and other properties. The two restaurants under construction will have prominent addresses: More at: http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2013/08/cibreo_red_the_steakhouse_in_c.html#incart_river_default
  7. I've never heard of that hotel chain. Is it sort of the Aldi's of hotels?
  8. Or have the building or a second building for another use front Prospect.
  9. The design architect is Peli and CSU wants this development adjacent to the student center to be a more park-like setting. It helps signify the campus center. Plus I guess there were some requests from Trinity as well about open space.
  10. Thank you! I am stunned by the support for this idea.. I think it will blemish our waterfront and prove to be a financial burden. I agree too. Something like this only belongs on ski resorts or amusement parks....the Geauga Lakes Amusement Parks of the world. (sigh..miss that place.)
  11. That's not fair..you heard it first. Nice summary though.
  12. I learned a few things today on Uptown: Phase 1 is commanding the highest rent in the city at over $1.80/sf There is a 250 person wait list for the Ph 1 apartments (damn!) Phase 1 had eleven layers of financing. Phase 2 has four layers of financing. It was more cost effective to go with steel frame construction instead of post-tension concrete for Ph. 2. The Alley patio installations have started and next summer flowers will be installed similar to E. 4th. It sounds like the Corner Alley Uptown will be one badass bowling alley. Nothing happening yet with Phase 3 but MRN is still working on it.
  13. ^ Yes...I love that historic image website. Trucks
  14. ^ Yeah I'm guessing that was sarcasm from ClevelandOhio? Haslam would not be considering adding 100mm worth of improvements if that was the case. Anyways, this is the wrong thread for that discussion.
  15. Stonebridge Towers lawsuit raises questions of possible links to County Corruption case CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Homeowners at the Stonebridge Towers who had dreamed of "Luxury living in the Flats," say they now live in a condominium complex that was negligently designed, poorly constructed and replete with defects. In a lawsuit filed in 2011 and in subsequent court filings, lawyers for the homeowners association accuse the building's developers of fraud, paying bribes and providing favors to politicians. In recent filings, the lawyers said among the politicians involved was convicted former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora. The trial is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 26. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/08/stonebridge_towers_lawsuit_rai.html#incart_2box

The wagon in 1937. I think most of the others were taken in the 30's as well.

  19. That idea doesn't appear to be so theoretical in Rock Ohio's mind.... "The casino occupies the first four floors of the 13-story Higbee’s Department Store. The purchase frees up remaining floors for potential gaming, entertainment or hospitality use. Rock Ohio Caesars at this point is exploring those possibilities." http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/work-progressing-on-horseshoe-casino-walkway-plans-construction-to-begin-soon
  20. A rooftop bar and other ideas are on the wish list for the new Cleveland convention center hotel Clevelanders want the city’s new convention center hotel to have an iconic design, a big impact on the skyline, a rooftop bar that’s open year round, and restaurants and retail shops close to sidewalks on the ground floor. Those were some of the ideas about the design of a new $260 million convention center hotel that emerged in a free public forum today at the Cleveland Public Library. Roughly 85 community members, including architects, developers, young professionals and civic leaders spent two hours batting ideas around with representatives of the Atlanta architecture firm of Cooper Carry. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2013/08/a_rooftop_bar_and_other_ideas.html
  21. I threw my 2013 penny up in the air and it came back down as a 1907 Indian Head Cent.....odd.
  22. Plus there are two interior light wells, making the floor plates narrow enough, I would guess, to be able to convert to apartments. But this is for another thread. Back on topic
  23. I don't understand why the hell they converted Thistledown to the Racino. That has to be draining a ton of business from the downtown location as the Racino parking lot is always full. Free parking too.
