  1. It would be nice if the Higbee building could get a nice bath before it opens, with maybe a Prosoco product or something. With all the new lighting to go on the building, you'd hate for that to highlight the 80+ years of soot and grime. However I would say unlikely since the opening is slated for this year and that is probably something Forest City would have to pay for.
  2. Somebody should email this PDF to the Market Center Management Company heading the Nashville project. So.....how is your project coming along down there in Nashville?
  3. KJP, do you have a total amount it cost to construct that Utah line?
  4. Firenze98 replied to a post in a topic in Roads & Biking
So the existing bridge will be some 20 years beyond it's useful life!! WTF! They have to make the new bridge 3 lanes in each direction. Two lanes eastbound for 23 years will not cut it!
  5. HOW?? Please share your worries. It's construction, casualties are built in and to be prepared for. Huh? Casualties are NOT built in and prepared for. So you think every contractor comes on a job and figures..."well there is probably going to be an accident or death.....that's to be expected"?? Please state your source for making that statement
  6. Another article on the new Westin hotel. Westin Hotels to Make Debut in Cleveland, Ohio: The Westin Cleveland Convention Center opens in summer 2013 in Prime Downtown Location In the News :: January 18, 2012 FROM THE WALL STREET JOURNAL (Jan. 18, 2012) -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. today announced plans to introduce its popular Westin brand to Cleveland, Ohio. The Westin Cleveland Convention Center will open in summer 2013 in a prime location, adjacent to the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center complex. Owned by Sage Hospitality, the former Crowne Plaza will undergo a $64 million renovation prior to re-opening as a Westin. The Westin Cleveland Convention Center will offer 481 luxurious rooms, a full-service restaurant, 26,000 square feet of meeting facilities and the full suite of Westin signature amenities and services. "We look forward to debuting the Westin brand in Cleveland, where we will offer travelers a restful urban retreat in an unbeatable downtown location," said Brian Povinelli, global brand leader for Westin Hotels & Resorts. "Here, guests will enjoy Westin's signature programs and amenities, designed to bring to life the brand's emphasis on wellness and renewal and send them home feeling even better than when they arrived." http://www.clevelandmedicalmartonline.com/clevelandmedicalmart/index.cfm/news/westin-hotels-to-make-debut-in-cleveland-ohio-the-westin-cleveland-convention-center-opens-in-summer-2013-in-prime-downtown-location/ http://online.wsj.com/article/PR-CO-20120118-906401.html?mod=WSJ_qtpressrel_pressrel

Agree! All this talk of other big ticket projects coming up....this should be big ticket number 1 with the integrity of the bridge in question beyond 2016.
  8. I'll agree with that. The Nursing program doesn't hurt either. The Kent transformation is incredible since I graduated. No more Screwy Louies, JB's or Y2K (old Townhouse location)

You are definitely "winning" and I'm am officially jealous. Nice set.
  10. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate thread to post this. Below is a list of all under construction, proposed, planning etc projects in Cleveland. This list is from a Cleveland Development Discussion forum on www.city-data.com. The list is compiled by forum member Costello_Musicman and is one hell of a list. There are other lists on UO I believe but I'm not sure they are as in depth as this list. Not all the links came through on my post. 11. From what I recall, the only talk of future expansion involved the actual MM and not the Convention Center. Obviously the loading docks shoot down any possibility of expanding the actual CC into the Admin. site.
  12. Good Lord KJP! Thanks for taking the time to put together such an informative TT history post.
  13. I totally agree with you! W. Huron, W. Prospect and W. Superior are definitely dead zones. It's too bad W. Prospect didn't have more street level retail frontage, or at least store fronts that could cater to a residential neighborhood. There is obviously enough retail right below the street. Convert some of the upper office floors to residential.
  14. Well it-shay can happen anywhere. Maybe somebody forgot that last piece of 2X4 shoring.
  15. From what I heard they will probably be shooting for more of a 2004-2008 Mercury Lounge crowd. Staying away from the North W6th crowd I'd welcome that. Call it... Vustodaspyarish

Did anyone take the December 2nd hard hat tour put on by AIA Cleveland ? Could use some interior intel on this project.. :-)
  17. I was blown away that this large lobby existed. One more I forgot to post. This is an elevator with wood faced doors....amazing art deco detailing. It sucks the picture didn't come out any better.
  18. I don't think so. I was working a Christmas party for a law firm so I had access to the building. But before the event started I got yelled at for trying to take some additional pictures. The majority of the building houses Sherwin Williams.
  19. A few interior shots of the Landmark Building including the entry, large lobby (impressive) detailing and typical upper floor corridor. My cell phone camera did not give the space justice.
  20. Totally agree! I lived in Florence Italy (note screen name) for 5 months. I looked directly out across the street to a 16th century building and it was fantastic. Now a view out to an alley way would be a different story.
  21. That was the other thing I was thinking of too... a larger shelter at the location you mentioned.
  22. Just throwing this out there, but would it be feasible to extend the Healthline route over to the Medical Mart? The route would be right on Rockwell (which I think is a one way street however) left onto West Mall Drive, left on St. Clair to the MM front door, then left onto Ontario to link up with the existing route around PS. Maneuvering the articulating buses through those turns might be too much of a challenge. It is currently ONLY 1 block to walk to the current route but linking the Healthline with the Healthcare MM makes sense.
  23. Nice article and a positive comment about Cleveland at the end of the article. No sure about Gilbert's spirit comment however. Oldtinker 11:16 AM on November 7, 2011 Johnny Carson always used to bad-mouth Cleveland with his jokes but I don't know if he ever went there. I always enjoyed visiting Cleveland except the time I got snowed in there for 3 days. Great food, great people. Anywho...back to the Casino.
  24. From conception to completion and today.....The LN Gross building
  25. Poll: Public split on Nashville Medical Trade Center's prospects Public opinion surrounding the proposed $250 million Nashville Medical Trade Center is largely split. According to a nonscientific Nashville Business Journal poll, 47 percent of respondents believe the mart will open in some fashion, while 48 percent believe the first-of-its-kind project will never come to fruition. Earlier this month, the Dallas-based developers of the project, Market Center Management Co., said they would not begin construction this year, as they had said the needed to in order to meet a 2013 opening date. http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/2011/11/poll-public-split-on-nashville.html
