It is unfortunate though that we started out as passenger rail being the dominate mode of transportation in the late 1800's to mid 1900's. By the 1950's the Government was discourging train traffic by imposing large taxes on train tickets. "Automobiles, buses, and planes, of course, made further in-roads in the intercity travel business. Government subsidization of highways and airports greatly aided those transportation developments and kept costs low. Railroads did not receive government assistance after the war. In fact, a war-time 15% excise tax on tickets meant to discourage wartime civilian train travel remained in effect, keeping fares higher than necessary. This tax, reduced slightly in 1954, was not completely removed until 1962. So passenger rail has to sort of start over again to some extent. The government was playing "king of the hill" and knocked rail traffic back down again.

I see no point in taking up land with a canal cutting through the site. The river and lake provide your water "feature". Though how much land can a canal really take up but it should all be green space instead.

Interesting how the building in the center has a similar design as Cleveland's Fifth Third Center as well as the one to the left having a similar design as Cleveland's One Cleveland Center.

I'll second JRC's comments. The first time I turned the corner and was in front of the Duomo (Florence Catherdral) my mouth almost flipped over top of my head in awe. I'm "homesick" too

This a small comment that isn't related to forming a press conference to call out the PD or FCE. But FCE and all supporters of the TC site always talk about the convenience of taking the RTA from the airport right to TC and can go to their hotel, the convention center and eat without going outside. Then they complain that nobody is going to want to walk the 3 blocks to the med mart outside. Well how about MMPI run a free shuttle, or for a small fee, from the front door of TC over to the med mart/ cc entrance during inclement weather. Or set up a route that passes by most or close to the hotels so that conventioneers have an option to walk during a nice day or take the CC-Medibus.
