Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
I wonder where the bus waiting/staging area moves to? Anyway, that sure disrupts a lot of current businesses but it looks like a great proposal. Anything to reduce the size of the intersection from hell is a good thing.

Where do you live in Cleveland / Cuyahoga County?
Well I currently live in cuyahoga county...I oops! you mentioned Chardon. Even tho' that's probably part of "Metro Cleveland" this poll doesn't "do outer counties." Apparently everybody outside of Cuyahoga County are bunch of hicks  Someone else can do the other counties! I jus tthought it would be interesting to see where in the county people lived. I mean we have folks from Bay and Richmond Hts. Who are those folks? :? I don't have to tell you kids why I chose Shaker Square  Well I currently live in cuyahoga county...and I felt like mentioning why I chose the area.

Where do you live in Cleveland / Cuyahoga County?
Parma. Grew up in Chardon...LOTS of snow but loved it. My wife is from Parma and we found a house we loved there so I'm an east side transplant but still work on the east side (shaker heights) Love for the urban core grew from living and studying architecture in Florence, Italy for 6 months. Ok that's the end of my brief autobiography.

Favorite Chain Pizza
ya the Donato's pepparoni can be a bit much. Domino's is my favorite. Although nothing beats Figoros near E72 and 2nd Ave in NYC. Something about quarter of a pizza thin slice at 2 am after throwing down a few at Doc Watson's bar.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
what is the extent of renovation planned? Just the upper tower sections or eventually the entire building? I know there was some 5 year renovation plan but I think that was just the top, no?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Judging by the W steel beam sections on the ground, i'd say they are getting ready to pound the steel "soldier" beams into the ground and then infill with wood planks. That will stabilize the earth along the road so that excavation can begin. Have to love the site of cranes

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
phew..back to a forum that actually has informed, intelligent people who understand that the problem lies with the Ohio and Federal government, not the management of RTA. They really are ignorant on cleveland.dumb

Dubai: Developments and News
This is the worst idea I've ever seen. What starts off as a decently designed building quickly turns into a tower of Jenga or some childs building blocks stack. blah!! Does each residence have control over where the floor spins. Because you know they will never look like the original building before everyone moves in and starts playing spin.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
As someone who has worked in the field of architecture for 9 years now and been involved in numerous projects, a lot of times 'cutting edge' comes down to money. Sure if the developers had unlimited budgets, they could persue cutting edge design firms from around the world to inject designs in Cleveland we haven't experienced before. That does not mean though that we shouldn't try to persue it on some level or settle for bland design. I agree that we can't judge the FEB on some renderings taken from the 500' view. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and it is easier to make judgements on the AD project since it is well underway. Sometimes every new project does not have to have cutting edge design to fit in with the surrounding vernacular. I personally don't have a problem with the design of the AD project. I think it will fit in nicely in the area. Am I qualified to make that judgement because I'm in the field of architecture? Maybe, maybe not but it is strictly my opinion which doesn't mean it is the 'right' design.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Seeing as how a BRT line is less costly to build than rail, I would love to see a BRT down W25th/Pearl Rd. to Parma. It could essentially be an extension of the Silver/ Health Line. The HealthLine title will still be relevant as it would pass MetroHealth and could teminate at the Parma General Hospital. The BRT vehicles continue across the Detriot/Superior bridge, make a left onto W25th and continue on. The Old Brooklyn to Parma corridor is heavily populated and makes sense for a future project. In times of high fuel costs etc, this is just my wish.

Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
At least the fake panel facade has spared the existing stone facade from 40+ years of auto and truck exhaust soot. The building left of 1007 hasn't had that luxury.

Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
Seeing that damage makes me cringe. Not as much as the fact that almost all of Millionaires Row was destroyed though. A lot of restoration work is ahead.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I would say the current symbol is pretty much (IMO) the accepted visual symbol for a train. True enough. The train symbol at Midway is what prompted it.
-
Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Maybe if the train symbol actually looked like a train on tracks instead of looking like the back of a bus making tire tracks in the snow.

NYC: New Major League Stadiums
I'm not a fan of the new Yankee stadium either. It's rather generic and lacks character like the new Mets stadium does. And why more than double the cost? What are there gold plated seats or something. You can bet a beer and hot dog will cost you $47.50 to help make up the cost. Also excuse my ignorance, but could the Yankee stadium have been oriented to provide views of downtown Manhattan or is it too far out?
