  1. Excellent pics! One of my favorite cities I've visited.
  2. Did you get a chance to go to Capri? That island is definitely worth it. I want to go back!!

Great pics. Brings back memories when I was there 10 years ago. Pompeii was definitely interesting and eerie at the same time. I also threw a coin into the Trevi Fountain. Although I did make it back to Italy, I did not make it back to Rome.
  4. the outside media is always very complimenting. It's our own local media, KJP not included, that doesn't get it. Think about it. How many people from the PD are here on UrbanOhio and have identified themselves?? For example, look how much correct information we have gotten because RTA's involvement here on UO and how valuable of a "focus group" we have become for them. Totally agree
  5. Technicalities aside, it is still nice to read about Cleveland in a positive article outside of the Cleveland media.
  6. Great shots!
  7. no, I was just saying that I know those buildings aren't in Shaker Heights. I guess I should have said I have worked in Shaker Heights for 8 years now and I'm still in awe everytime i drive through Shaker Square and the surrounding neighborhoods etc.
  8. Would it have mattered if I said I work in Solon and am in awe everytime I drive through the neighborhoods of Shaker Heights and surrounding area?
  9. I have worked in Shake Heights for 8 years now and i'm still in awe everytime i drive through the neighborhoods etc. Great pics.
  10. It looks like we already have our green space.... on top of the canopy
  11. How is height the norm in the CBD? when you have several buildings that are at least 350ft tall and up compared to maybe 1 in the WHD, the Justice Center.
  12. This afternoon I spent about two hours just driving around Cleveland enjoying the weather. The whole time down there I would look towards PS and imagine the Jacob's tower in place. Driving through PS, down W 6th I looked that way, driving down Euclid etc. I even went to Wendy Park...(A) because I have never been there and (B), I wanted to imagine the tower from the views of Wendy Park. After doing that I'm actually fine with the fact that we are only getting a 21 story building. Of course from Wendy Park a 60+ story building looks grand. But driving around PS and the Warehouse District, the smaller one provides a better transition to the lower height structures that will be and are built in the WHD. A tall, super tall or whatever is best suited for sites closer to the CBD where height seems to be sort of the norm.
  13. Damn if only the 'Purple Line' could come to reality, I'd take that to my Shaker Heights job everyday... Instead I have to catch the RedLine at Brook Park.
  14. Ok Mr. Jacobs, lets set up a meeting and discuss my proposed tower for the site. My stipulations include a minimum of 12,000sf of ground floor retail, a hotel, if a parking garage is included, it shall be two levels only with one being below grade. There shall not be any restaurants/ cafes to promote pedestrian traffic directed to Tower City or Peshst for dining options. What's that you say, the market conditions right now don't justify such a large tower? Ok, let's cut the tower in half, however my stipulations still apply with the option to discuss the deletion of the hotel.....
  15. "and if you want to talk about psychological boosts I think development on those important city blocks would be just as significant as a new skyscraper, for anyone who actually goes into the city to look around." Any new construction in downtown Cleveland is a psychological boost in my book. All everyone hears about is how the economy sucks or about the population exodus etc. Just think, by sometime in 2010 if all these projects get underway, we could be dubbed "The City of Cranes".....take that Berlin.
  16. "Three other sites are under consideration, including the existing convention center beneath the downtown Mall, the Cuyahoga riverfront behind Tower City Center and the lakefront west of Browns Stadium." Why is the lakefront west of the stadium even in the discussions. By far the worst choice of the four. I guess the public will have to have a strong objection to the WHD site at the public meetings..
  17. Going to Wooster can suprise you if you've never been there. You travel through miles of farmland and then Bam!! a fairly large city. My office has been doing work down there for over 40 years and it never gets old going there to check on a job.
  18. If only the railroad tracks were the river and these old beauts were renovated into residential with a boardwalk.
  19. I've been wanting to visit Wendy park for a long time. The pics help motivate me to make sure I do that soon. Very nice.
  20. Great pics!! Looks like you couldn't have any better weather for picture taking.
  21. I prefer the original siteplan. The massing was more in scale with all other buildings in the development. The typical street grid was somewhat maintained. I see their point of creating the curved streets to open up views to the river. Well, if the original grid design was maintained people would not see the river at every turn of their head. So the 'want' to see the river would draw peeps down to the boardwalk. Someone may say to themselves "hmm i'd like to see the river. Oh look there it is. I'm on my way to other things" instead of " hmm i'd like to see the river. I'll take a walk down to the boardwalk." I guess the point is that the older plans require more pedestrian traffic throughout the neighborhood to get to a 'destination' The latest siteplan release is a step closer to the project getting underway at least. The whole Eaton concept makes my cringe though. I just don't see the point in going through all the expense to reconfigure the loop to accomodate the Eaton campus...cringe again. Maybe if they left the loop alone, they could squeeze inside the existing loop. Hey more density that way right?
  22. I half expect Ralphy and Randy to be running by chased by Flick from the Christmas Story in this pic.
  23. All the videos bring memories of riding the EuroStar trains in Italy. I'm surprised how fast they blow through the stations. You'd think they would at least slow down. I wonder if Rome's third subway line will be smoother than the other two. They twist and turn constantly, probably to avoid all the relics and ruins and historic buildings.

Great pics again Barney! Any pics of the Flats before they transformed into the restaurant/bar/nightclub uses?
  25. Great pics dfly. You seem to travel everywhere all the time. Have some extra cash to throw my way to travel? I visited the Hoover Dam and Vegas back in 2005. Enjoyed them both except the heat.
