  1. "It's easy to view the Eaton proposal as the first step toward a rapid development of other single-purpose corporate "campuses" pressing even closer to the water's edge. But Wasserman, who supports the Eaton move, said he doesn't want that to happen." Thank you Mr. Wasserman. Many of us feel the same.
  2. Excellent thread to capture the parade. Love the Great Lakes truck pic...and random pics of girls with short skirts and socks pulled up to their knees didn't hurt either
  3. If the Mall site is selected, would people be willing to travel 2 blocks east or west for lunch/dinner. I don't know especially during inclement weather. But if Pesht is built that provides retail and restaurant options to the west. To the east, this site might provide an opportunity to inject some engergy into the Galleria mall.
  4. After refreshing my memory by checking out the link, I'm pro mall/existing CC site. It keeps a low profile, provides access to the lakefront and promotes activity in the area. THe TC site would best be served for future office, hotel, residential or some other development which can take advantage of the river views. That is much better instead of trying to shoehorn a behemoth into the limited site at TC. Each site obviously has its pros and cons but that is my limited opinion.
  5. It is too bad that Sherwin Williams had to create a Beachwood type office setting with expanses of surface lots for such a small building. That would free up more space obviously. I'm torn on the location also. The TC site is cramped but the proximity to public transportation is key. People could hop on the BRT HealthLine right from TC to head to the hospitals.

Ah the memories indeed. Sanibel Island used to by my family's yearly vacation retreat. First with a camper staying at the campground on the island. Then to staying in condos. The island has changed a LOT since I stopped going there 15 years ago from what I've heard. I wonder if the Bubble Room restaurant is till on Captiva Island, the island just north of Sanibel. It used to have a tree growing through it. They have the best desserts. Storms destroyed most of the old growth and tree lines streets I've heard but I'd still go back.
  8. The one thing that FEB has going for itself is that the Waterfront Line runs through it. Maybe RTA increase the frequency of trains coming through. That way if people want to get lunch at Tower City, they take the short ride. Also, if Stark struggles to land tenants, maybe he could investigate only developing portions of the project up to a certain floor. Fill in every parking lot with some portion of retail, parking, office etc. Design the buildings structurally to enable future floors to be constructed for residential, office whatever... a la 515 Euclid. That's easier said than done but why not look at from that angle.

Love the density also. Makes me pine for that residential density in Cleveland. Can we copy and paste the row housing into the Midtown area.
  10. That plan makes me puke. This is much better. Maintain street frontage and get rid of that plaza cut through. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/juice95m3/rotunda-B.jpg
  11. Very nice set. Mayday do you use a shift lense? The towers are always so vertically oriented. Nothing beats great architectural photography.

Throw in all the Millionaire Row mansions that were demolished to add to the damn shame category. Everytime I think about it I can't believe they were demolished. Although I believe for some of them it was the owners request to have them demolished after they passed away. They could have become a tourist attraction in some ways how the victorian homes are in San Fran.

I visited Prague back in '98 while traveling Europe after a semester studying in Florence. Definitely an amazing city architecturally. It was interesting to note some of the things that were still stuck in the time of the Communist regimes....for instance, most of the cars will still from the 50's and 60's. Anyway the city was cheap from i remember also. It also seemed that the subways were incredibly deep into the ground as the escalators went forever before reaching the tracks. Also watch the movie XXX with Vin Diesel....you can catch quite a glimpse of the city. I too will have to digitize my photos to share sometime.
  16. Is the plan to renovate only the top section of the Terminal Tower or the entire structure over time?
  17. How sad. You'd think that was a scene from a German town just after WWII. Hopefully something will be done to reclaim this building before the vandalism gets even worse....can it really get any worse?? By the way...is that a burned out Geo Metro to the left?

Me and the Mrs. in about 50 years
  19. No disagreements there, just talking about the skyline.
  20. I took the RTA Blue downtown for the Indians game on Friday. I must say, i really enjoyed a relaxing ride to town for $1.75 versus wrestling with traffic to find a parking space for at least $10. I live in Parma but drive to the Brookpark station, catch the Red to Tower City and then the Blue to Van Aken/Warrensville with a two minute walk to my building. I'll take an extra 15minutes of travel time vs. dealing with the clogged up river that is I-480. Just mentioning a few pluses I've come to appreciate with riding the RTA :-)
  21. I do agree a new 60+ story skyscraper would do wonders for the skyline and image of Cleveland. However, I too would prefer to see two 30-35 story mixed use buildings. From afar, the skyline starting with the Carl B. Stokes Fed. Courthouse, two new 30-35 story buildings, public square scrapers over to the E. 9th CBD buildings looks more impressive. A skyline with 3-4 pencils amongst the crayons doesn't look as impressive in my opinion as several crayons stretching across the horizon.
  22. Everyplace has to start somewhere. Do you not establish a city because there are no buildings there? Build it and they will come
  23. Mayday you take exceptional pictures. That time of day..late afternoon evening is the best time to take photos.

A satelite City Architecture office in Florence?
  25. I recently had that exact problem. I rode the red line from Brookpark and nearly missed my stop at E116th because of the mumbled jargen I could barely make out from the operator. Automated announcements would be a large improvement.
