New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
From an October interview- Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger: "It takes about four years for one of these factories to come online. Our objective right now is to be online and start producing by 2026. My bigger objective isn’t just that I build the first two modules — which was what I did groundbreaking for a couple of weeks ago — but that as this entire movement and our Foundry Services build that I then go build modules three, four, five, and six over time. That is the vision that we have laid out. Yes, building is underway, and we are pretty excited to get it in place."

Delaware / Ohio Wesleyan University: Developments and News
RiverWest Partners' $35M Mill on Flax project lands key approvals from Delaware City Council "A roughly $35 million project that could reshape the riverfront in the city of Delaware is moving forward following key approvals. With these approvals in place, the project heads toward demolition and construction. Delaware City Council this week approved three emergency ordinances for The Mill on Flax, a mixed-use project from Columbus developers RiverWest Partners. The project will include 162 apartment units, a commercial building and an office building — the latter of which is a new component of the development not previously announced. Located on approximately 5 acres north of East Central Avenue and east of the Olentangy River, the site will eventually feature a 6,000-to-7,000-square-foot office building, a nearly 4,900-square-foot commercial building and apartments spanning five buildings. A total of 102 one-bedroom units, 36 two-bedroom units and 24 studio units will encompasses the residential portion of the project." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/01/12/riverwest-partners-mill-on-flax-project-delaware.html

Columbus: Eastland Developments and News
City to begin plan to revitalize Eastland Mall neighborhood "With Eastland Mall now closed, city and neighborhood leaders will begin focusing on a plan to revive the mall site and surrounding area. The Columbus City Council in December approved $300,000 for a contract with the Neighborhood Design Center to begin work on the Eastland plan. Carla Williams-Scott, director of the Columbus Department of Neighborhoods, said the boundaries of the planning area should be defined by the end of the month. She said officials will be speaking with members of the Mid-East, Greater South East and Far East area commissions about ideas. Ideas for the mall site have included housing, retail and a fitness facility. The site is privately owned. Eastland Mall Holdings LLC of New Orleans bought the mall for $9.7 million in 2015, so any redevelopment discussions would have to go through it. Quay Barnes, who leads the Mid-East Area Commission, said she hopes the mall site can be redeveloped into something that will bring young professionals into the area, including housing, retail, restaurants, medical services training, a fitness center and social services. Any plan should also look at ideas for transforming the area near Refugee and Brice roads. Jennifer Chamberlain, who leads the Far East Area Commission, said a landmark sports complex and community center on the mall site would help the entire area." https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2023/01/06/city-to-begin-process-of-revitalizing-eastland-mall-area/69772797007/

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
Intel ramping up New Albany project as federal money begins to flow "Construction of Intel, Ohio's biggest economic development project, will ramp up in 2023 just as billions of dollars of federal aid for the semiconductor business is expected to begin flowing. Gilbane, the company Intel has hired to do excavation work at its $20 billion project site in Licking County, has nearly completed its work, according to Intel. Engineering, construction and project management company Bechtel, hired by Intel to manage the project, will start construction work this winter. The Licking County project is expected to one day employ 5,000 to 7,000 construction workers. For now, though, the number will be much smaller, likely totaling a few hundred workers for the next few months as excavation wraps up and site preparation continues. Ripple effect of Intel being felt across the state... Chemtrade breaks ground on $50 million dollar expansion near Lima "Intel’s $20 billion investment in Ohio has created a ripple effect throughout the state including in Allen County. Chemtrade Logistics announced a $50 million expansion project at their Cairo facility to increase production of Ultrapure Sulphuric Acid, which is needed to clean semiconductor chips during the production process. As Ohio looks to become the Silicon Heartland with the Intel investment, more and more opportunities will present themselves in every corner of the state. “All parts of Ohio are going to benefit from this. Right here in Allen County, we are seeing a very visible, tangible, symbol of what that means. This really is a good thing for the state of Ohio and all of our communities for a long time to come.” Construction has already started on the Chemtrade expansion, and is expected to be up and running by 2024." https://www.hometownstations.com/news/chemtrade-breaks-ground-on-50-million-dollar-expansion-in-allen-county/article_617f5e28-7818-11ed-8894-83cd67500974.html

Board members named to RAPID 5 effort to link major Franklin County waterways with trails "A board has been named to help guide RAPID 5, the nonprofit created earlier this years to link Franklin County’s five major waterways with trails and create economic development and attractions to lure people to the water. The goal of RAPID 5 — which stands for Rivers and Parks + Imagination + Design — is to create and implement ideas for improving links among the Big Darby Creek, Alum Creek, Big Walnut Creek and Scioto and Olentangy river corridors and a unified greenways system. There are more than 200 miles of trails in Franklin County and 146 miles of rivers, creeks and tributaries. During an interview at Scioto Audubon Metro Park, where board members were meeting late Monday afternoon, Acton said RAPID 5 would begin its strategic planning process next year and would visit other cities to see what they’ve done with similar efforts." Luvcbus replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionRan across this recently. There's some interesting information scattered throughout the article. Thought I'd put it here for anyone interested... How Ohio, Indiana are shaping American economy "McDonald, who leads the Columbus Partnership, which is a coalition of civic leaders, CEOs of major companies, and academic leaders in Ohio, helps to attract new employers from around the world to help existing companies grow. McDonald added that the area has recorded major investments over the course of the year. Intel, he said, has committed over $20 billion in capital investment. "We coupled that with just a few weeks ago announcing a major announcement from Honda to call Ohio and the Columbus region their electric vehicle home, their hub for all-electric vehicle operations. The retooling of these facilities, three across our region, and the production of a new battery facility and a partnership with LG will create as many as 2,500 new jobs, retain over 8,000 jobs that exist today, and help move our automotive operations into the next generation of electric vehicles, making this one of the largest automotive centers in the world." “We’re working with over – well over a hundred companies that are actively looking for new facilities and places to create jobs and investment somewhere in the country, so we’re competing for over 137 active projects. Most of those, 70 percent of those are new to our region. Very interestingly for this group, over 50 percent of those projects are foreign-owned companies." Delaware County: Developments and News
Luvcbus replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOfficials plan for changes in Delaware County traffic "Intel’s new central Ohio semiconductor facility is in close proximity to Delaware County’s southeast corner and is expected to increase traffic in Delaware County. While the bulk of the county’s heavy traffic now travels north and south, Intel can be expected to increase the traffic volume moving east and west. Intel is expected to begin production in 2025 with two factories and 3,000 jobs. As a result, about 30 companies that supply Intel are expected to move nearby, and Intel might add more factories later. Riley said between 15,000 to more than 50,000 people ultimately might work at the location. One of the projects in Riley’s presentation is the planned construction of a four-lane underpass (pictured above) where CSX Transportation, and Norfolk and Southern, railroad tracks cross East Orange Road. If Norfolk and Southern won’t agree to the construction of a temporary atgrade crossing to maintain traffic at the site, Orange Road might have to be closed at least a year between U.S. Route 23 and South Old State Road, Riley said." Other planned projects described were: ● Extension of Green Meadows Drive, connecting the new Home Road extension with the roundabout at Lewis Center and North roads: Construction of the $2.3-million project is expected in October 2023. ● Improvement of the Old State and Hollenback roads intersection, now a four-way stop: “We will be looking at either a traffic signal with turn lanes or a roundabout. We don’t know yet what would be the best alternative, but we will be looking at both." ● Widening Shanahan Road to three lanes between U.S. 23 and North Road: Construction is expected in 2025 or 2026. Riley said the engineer’s office hopes to reach agreements with Orange and Berlin townships on sharing the cost. ● Further extending East Home Road to the north and east, across the CSX and NS railroad tracks and reaching Lewis Center Road: The cost is estimated at $17 million, with construction expected in 2025 or 2026. https://dispatch-oh.newsmemory.com/?token=38f589e4b2b97cbade5ee3e7ea6327c3&cnum=0b7d0e5f-fe67-eb11-9acf-90b11c3bc1f2&fod=1111111STD-0&selDate=20221205&licenseType=paid_subscriber&

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
I was doing some basic math earlier... A typical football field is 57,600 sqft. To put that into perspective, the first phase of the Intel project at 2.5 million sqft, is equivalent to 44 football fields 😲 The cleanrooms alone totaling 600,000 sqft, will cover the area of over ten football fields.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
A little update on the Intel project from The Dispatch: Where does construction stand? "Excavation work led by Gilbane has been underway at the site in New Albany since July, and Intel and Bechtel began working together months ago. Hunt Ryan said the next steps include building access roads and the infrastructure around the site to support the thousands of construction workers expected on the site as work ramps up. Concrete work will start in the second half of 2023, she said. Much of the initial work also includes underground piping the fabs will need. In the back half of the year, cranes and heavy machines are expected to move in as construction starts to go vertical and becomes more noticeable, Esfarjani said, assuming the weather allows and Bechtel can get the equipment and supplies it needs. During the height of construction Bechtel expects, 5,000 to 7,000 workers on site, she said. Hunt Ryan said the demand for workers at the project will outstrip local availability, and Bechtel will have to work to make the project "the site of choice" where professionals will want to come. Bechtel said it will build on its long relationship with building trades to attract workers here." https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/manufacturing/2022/11/28/bechtel-picked-to-build-new-albany-intel-factories/69674281007/
