  1. Bike Cleveland has started a petition to get this wording removed. You can sign here.
  2. Agree and would like to see UC as a secondary hub--is there a plan out there for how this can be done? Street car? Subway? @E Rocc, you mentioned this recently too, your thoughts?
  3. Ken's article says the proposed downtown terminal is the old B&O rail depot (https://maps.app.goo.gl/zkpWQ56hsAMciBgz6) While we're on the subject of the old rail depot, could we bring the clock back?
  4. Good big or bad big?
  5. Cleveland.com reported that it's $1,000/person. Still way too low and a lawyer things that it's to prevent anyone who accepts the money from making additional claims. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/02/attorney-warns-victims-of-east-palestine-train-derailment-not-to-accept-1000-inconvenience-checks-from-norfolk-southern.html On a related note, only reporting I've seen on this from cle.com... possible I missed it but this has been generally under reported by everyone.

All of this ignores the policy decisions made by elected officials to enable and incentivize suburban living.
  7. I don't know Cincinnati well, but if its less than 2 miles scooters and bike shares should be an option too, no?
  8. Okay, sure. The current station location in Cincinnati can still be convenient for people if they wanted to visit UC. I think it is a mistake to think transit service wouldn't be improved at any stations in any of the major cities.
  9. That's a pretty manageable problem... If there are special game-day trains to bring out-of-town crowds in, like @Cleburger suggested, one would think the city would have a shuttle service between the station and the stadiums before and after the games. That's also assuming that the cities' transit agencies don't reorient their routes to better serve a more active Amtrak station.

It's likely not just one thing and what you point to is not mutually exclusive from the original post's suggestions. The original poster did say "in part" anyway.

The city is seeking feedback on its speed-table pilot program. More information can be found here. The survey will be open until Monday, February 20. Link to the survey here.
  12. The proposal doesn't eliminate all police vacancies, from Nick Castele's write up for Signal; So my read of this would be (1) he is bringing the budget back in line after needing to use ARPA funds to close the funding gap in last year's budget and (2) he's setting police hiring goals to a more realistic/attainable level. This allows him to continue to redirect money to improve and fix other areas that have been neglected instead of sitting it in the police budget for positions that realistically wont be filled this year and still run a slight surplus. Should also remember that Bibb has hired consultants to study how many uniformed officers are needed, and like @Cleburgerpointed out, part of that study was to look into whether administrative roles could be shifted from officers to civilians.
  13. That's fair, but the renovations *can* happen without the DORA designation. Certainly looks like that's where it's headed, just not yet.
  14. Only funding was approved, legislation to approve the DORA still has to be passed.
  15. I'm not a huge fan of the south facade either, but it's not quite finished. The landscaping in front may balance things out--add depth, texture, and color.
  16. I was thinking along the same lines. Would it be possible to add bypasses along the route to have a direct commuter line between Cleveland and Akron? A stop in Independence might make sense, though parking at the current station would have to be greatly expanded. Access to the current station is not very direct either, which isn't a big deal for a scenic rail but wouldn't be super convenient for a commuter rail.
  17. ODOT is planning to rehab I-490 between the I-90/I-490/I-71 interchange and just west of E. 55th, beginning in the Spring of 2024 at an estimated cost of $42.5M. The period for public comment is now open. More details along with the ling to leave a comment below: https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/projects/projects/107408?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
  18. Lakewood has opened an survey on walking and biking infrastructure, it is followed by a general street planning survey. You can take the survey at the link below; https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7121115/Lakewood-Walking-Biking?fbclid=PAAabipnV-eQAVnJDl5ImIESYM0L22V5vnszBpVUV16IK06y9C44I4havGb7M Lakewood Walking & Biking Survey - Safe Streets for All Survey "The City of Lakewood is developing a plan to improve infrastructure, policies, and programs for people who walk and bike in Lakewood. Please take the survey below so we can understand the challenges and priorities you want to see addressed in the plan."
  19. Also, on this point, why do you not apply the same skepticism to the construction of highways? Politicians thought people should own a single family home with a car and so they built the environment to accommodate that preference. By accommodating that preference, arguably at the expense of city dwelling, people changed their behavior. https://www.freshwatercleveland.com/features/FreewayImpact022516.aspx The county was 3/4 rural before highways and politicians' preference for them.
  20. Why should people living in cities be forced to deal with noise and air pollution from cars on highways running through their cities to accommodate suburbanites? You may think its trying to force people to live a certain way, but maybe you should consider it from the alternative perspective -- people living in the suburbs get to impose their preferences on those who live within the city.
  21. The highways that are under discussion for removal or a road-diets are not about getting around Cleveland, but passing through Cleveland. That does the City no good, and high cost of maintaining all of this infrastructure as the tax base is continually spread thinner and thinner is an economic drag on the region.
  22. I am all in favor of removing the Shoreway, but something I haven't seen discussed much is how this will affect traffic on I-90. Westbound traffic is going to be coming in and either entering a lower speed blvd or deadman's curve; in all lanes traffic is going to have to slow and during rush hour that is going to backup down the highway. To lay my cards on the table. The Shoreway is only half the problem, I-90 needs to be rerouted to I-271 to I-480 back to I-80/90. 90 is cutting off near-eastside neighborhoods from the lake and downtown.

An op-ed in The Land about the reform effort in the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. It was written by Keith Wilson who is a cofounder of Build Back Cuyahoga and on the Steering Committee of the Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus, so should be taken with a grain of salt. However, I fully support the effort to get move voters in the county registered and engaged. Registration assistance will be especially important given the state's continued effort to disenfranchise voters. The election results in the county are all well and good, but I'd like to see the voter turnout in the county much, much higher. Op-Ed: County Dems reformers make moves to eliminate party machines, strengthen Democratic Party
  24. RTA is setting up a Civilian Oversight Committee to review transit police complaints. You can read cleveland.com's write up here for more details. Here is the link to download the application: https://www.riderta.com/coc/apply To submit either email it to [email protected], drop it off at the downtown office, or mail it to RTA Executive Dept.
