No, no! Not a jab at you at all, it's a jab at the state officials push limiting solar fields to "preserve rural aesthetics". I agree, with you, this seemingly could have and should have been placed closer to Cleveland or Akron and we should actually preserve rural places for a multitude of reasons. Sorry, for the miscommunication! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.clevescene.com/news/ohio-may-soon-kill-a-solar-project-due-to-concerns-over-rural-aesthetic-39852457%3fmedia=AMP%2bHTML

  4. "Reprising a line from the debate, Weingart says running as a Republican is a big disadvantage in Cuyahoga County, but *being* a Republican will help him get money from the GOP-controlled state." This is a reason to vote Republicans out of the state legislature, not a reason to vote *for* Weingart...
  5. May have a recency bias, posting two stories on them in one day, but maybe Summit Metroparks deserves their own thread... Summit Metro Parks completes phase 3 of multi-purpose Freedom Trail in Akron By Megan Becka, special to cleveland.com Published: Oct. 13, 2022, 11:39 a.m.
  6. This could go a couple places, but since there isn't a Summit Metroparks thread and the Gorge Metropark is in Cuyahoga Falls I guess this is the best place. Meeting on Gorge Dam removal progress planned for Oct. 31 Emily Mills | Akron Beacon Journal Published 7:22 a.m. ET Oct. 13, 2022
  7. So since RTA has already raised ~$198M can we assume they have the opportunity to receive a grant of at least $198M? Or is some of those funds already raised federal dollars so not eligible to be matched?
  8. I know they need to find a place for the dredging from the Gorge Dam in Akron, could they not kill 2 birds with 1 stone by using that dredging as the fill for this project?

  10. Interesting article on why sheltered bus stops are where they are: Most Northeast Ohio bus stops don't have shelters. Here's what goes into deciding which gets them I would like to know how that expectation of "50 or more persons per day" is determined. If its based off of current riders per stop it seems a bit backward...I would think that number is deflated a bit because the site isn't accommodating. But if its based on residential density of the surrounding area then this might make some more sense. If anyone wants to suggest a stop that needs a shelter: GRTA Feedback Form General Manager connection line at 216-621-9500
  11. I believe Flexjet has a fairly significant corporate presence in Dallas too. But IIRC they did spend a fair amount on capital improvements to their corporate offices in Richmond Heights, so hopefully they keep their HQ here. 13. This is the way a lot of compensation is structured for those in officer and C-suit positions. That said; the compensation is still ridiculous, just not for only Amtrak. But if Amtrak wants to compete and attract/retain talent to effectively run the organization they're going to have to offer comparable compensation.
  14. Do parking meters that double as EV chargers exist? We should throw a few of those in the mix if so.

You have to be able to count on your defense to hold an offense led by Marcus Mariota when they're pinned back at their own 4 yard line. That the Falcons marched 84 yards down the field is a weird thing to hang on Stefanski. And the final drive we had the 2 minute warning and 0 timeouts. That's not a situation you run the ball.
  17. I think I might disagree. I think there should be a regional identity insofar as there is collaboration between the cities to the benefit of each of the cities. But without the cities in the region having a strong identity there is less of a pull to each of them and we maintain the current status quo of regional sprawl to no ones benefit. Maybe too tough of a needle to thread, or maybe I'm over emphasizing a city's identity as a pull to cities when it really just comes down to the built environment. I still think Cleveland and Akron are distinct enough that to muddle them into one you'll lose a lot.
  18. City Council is taking steps to address blight, hopefully it's effective. What I think will be more beneficial is Building and Housing committees next goal of limiting out of state absentee landlords that aren't reinvesting in their properties. Cleveland removes hurdle for code violations as part of efforts to better fight blight Updated: Sep. 30, 2022, 2:59 p.m.|Published: Sep. 30, 2022, 2:45 p.m. By Courtney Astolfi, cleveland.com "CLEVELAND, Ohio – In one of what’s expected to be many changes aimed at improving how the city of Cleveland fights blight, City Council this week approved a cost-saving measure that’s intended to make it easier to prosecute code violations. The ordinance, backed by Mayor Justin Bibb and Director of Building and Housing Sally Martin, removes a long-standing requirement that the city serve all code violations via certified mail – a step necessary for prosecution that could easily be dodged by property owners." Later in the article: "Council members and Martin readily acknowledged that there are a host of other changes that will likely need to be made to improve Cleveland’s code enforcement. Among the thorny housing issues that members said they want Building and Housing to address are companies who quickly transfer deeds to subsidiaries to avoid responsibility for code violations, and owners who collect rents, but don’t reinvest money into property improvements." https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/09/cleveland-removes-hurdle-for-code-violations-as-part-of-efforts-to-better-fight-blight.html

Kayaked from Station Bridge to Rockside this morning, first picture is the feeder pump. Tough spot to grab a picture with the swift water here but I did my best. Second picture is just south of Rockside Rd, anyone know what these posts are from/were?
