2022 Ohio Gubernatorial Election
Ohio isn't a bell weather any more, FiveThirtyEight has Ohio's partisan lean at R+12.4 (538's State Partisan Lean). DeWine has also, somehow, managed to maintain a moderate brand. Likely because he is moderate compared to the extreme legislature. And while he does nothing to try to reign them in--not even a symbolic veto--he "grudgingly" signs laws passed by the legislature to signal that he isn't totally comfortable with the laws, while privately he seems perfectly happy with their outcomes.

Cleveland Metroparks: The Emerald Necklace
Cleveland Metroparks to seek 10-year 2.7-mill replacement levy. Will appear as Issue 5 in Cuyahoga County and Issue 10 in Hinkley Township. This would increase property taxes by ~$27 for every $100k of home valuation. If passed the current contribution of $67.38 would increase to $94.50 per $100k of valuation, raising an additional $12-$14m in revenue for Metroparks. i.e. CHEERS, purchasing East Cleveland's portion of Forest Hills Park, and expansion of the Zoo's rainforest building. https://www.ideastream.org/news/cleveland-metroparks-seeks-property-tax-increase-for-east-side-green-space-zoo-expansion

Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
Not sure who your debating with at this point... nowhere did I say the court can legislate
-
Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
The court can say a law is unconstitutional or the application of a law is application of a law is unconstitutional; redistricting being the later case. The court has no enforcement mechanism in either case other than the authority granted by the other two branches respecting the decisions (or as you call them opinions) of the court. This erodes the very basic separation of powers of our government.
-
Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
The court cannot throw people in jail, law enforcement officials are part of the executive. If the court can't force the legislature to do anything then who can it enjoin?

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I hope you're wrong about this because I think it only gets worse with the Bally streaming service. I'm hoping the Guardians (and Cavs) renegotiate their TV deals when the contracts are up and go elsewhere that will actually work out streaming rights to Hulu and YouTube because right now it sounds like Bally has no interest in doing this.

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
Cuyahoga County seeking public input on where to expand bike-, scooter-sharing program By Kaitlin Durbin, cleveland.com "Cuyahoga County is looking to expand its network of public bicycles and scooters to more inner ring suburbs but wants to hear from residents about where it will be most beneficial. A map of potential bike and scooter parking stations shows several dozen options planned for downtown Cleveland as well as stretching from Lakewood, West Park, Edgewater, and South Brooklyn on the county’s west side, to Glenville, East Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, South Euclid, University Heights and Shaker Heights on the east side. ... The county is seeking public comment on the planned locations through Sept. 30. Residents can find locations of interest on the interactive map and click on the icon to learn more about the proposed equipment that will be placed there and click on “submit feedback” to leave a comment." Here is the link where you can leave feedback on locations https://gis.cuyahogacounty.us/portal/apps/instant/minimalist/index.html?appid=b1a7d945da1f4be1b66ec3c7386ba89d. Ohio: Environmental News & Discussion
Vox had a good explainer on what is in this bill and what it will do, more broadly -- https://www.vox.com/down-to-earth/23288563/recovering-americas-wildlife-act-explained If passed this would be huge for wildlife conservation. It will provide a funding source for conservation efforts as hunting and fishing license sales decline (current source of 80% of funding for these efforts). And because funding wont be linked to hunting or fishing conservation efforts will not be focused on maintaining game species, and instead focus on all threatened species. States put in place Wildlife Action Plans back in 2005, but because funding has been an issue many states haven't been able to fully implement them. This bill helps close that gap. This, along with certain provisions in the infrastructure bill (Vox: Animals need infrastructure, too) and the climate provisions in the the inflation reduction act, the Biden administration has done a lot to pushforward conservation efforts.

Ashtabula County: Development and News
Future of Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake is focus of ongoing talks between state, Ashtabula County Updated: Aug. 22, 2022, 5:30 p.m.| Published: Aug. 22, 2022, 8:03 a.m. By Susan Glaser, cleveland.com https://www.cleveland.com/travel/2022/08/future-of-lodge-at-geneva-on-the-lake-is-focus-of-ongoing-talks-between-state-ashtabula-county.html This would free up $13M in debt for Ashtabula to potentially put toward other capital improvements at Geneva-on-the-Lake. I think a breakwall and beach at the Lodge would greatly improve the appeal of the Lodge for families. The county could also follow the lead of Euclid and offer bank stabilization to lakefront landowners in exchange for public access to create a boardwalk down the coast from the Lodge to at least the downtown area, more effectively activating the lakefront. I'm not sure how feasible this would be, but my ideal would be for this to culminate in a pier at the Landing that could accommodate cruise ships so that GOTL becomes a stop along some of those routes. UPDATE: The county is at least considering the breakwall and beach.

Akron: Music Scene
Akron's Kenmore neighborhood wants to be 'Music Row' AUTHOR: Kabir Bhatia PUBLISHED: August 16, 2022 "Tina Boyes, head of the Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance, has been working since 2017 to make Kenmore Boulevard exciting again. For every new business, there are still spaces like the former Hairston Appliance store that’s quietly waiting for a new tenant. Boyes began consulting with Dallas-based Better Block five years ago on how to make the boulevard more walkable. They added bike lanes. They filled a vacant lot with art and turned it into a courtyard for community meetings. And then she came to a realization: Kenmore is a music neighborhood. “We've got recording studios, [and] we've got the two guitar shops directly across the street,” she said. “The Rialto Theater [is a] regional music venue.”" https://www.ideastream.org/news/akrons-kenmore-neighborhood-wants-to-be-music-row

Hey Lakewood folks, I'm on vacation and had my brother checking in on my cat and they haven't seen him. He's likely hiding inside somewhere but he hasn't touched his food so it has us a bit concerned. We live on Lincoln between Delaware and Garfield. If you see him he is friendly, but shy so will likely hide first. His name is Pierogi. Please let me know if you see him. Thanks in advance!

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
NEORSD is getting in on the action, providing grants for green infrastructure to help mitigate storm water runoff. "Green roofs are just one facet of environmental infrastructure NEORSD is spreading throughout its combined-sewer service region. Bioretention areas, permeable pavement, and rainwater harvesting are also aimed at transforming the face of Cleveland’s neighborhoods one grant at a time. These projects reduce the potential for flooding and eroded stream banks that can happen when sewers are overwhelmed during heavy storms. Stormwater-related impacts of pollution and waterborne illness can also be alleviated when water management features are reintroduced into the region’s built environments." https://thelandcle.org/stories/sewer-district-grants-send-green-infrastructure-dollars-to-cleveland-neighborhoods/
