I think this will be good for Canton and the Airport regardless, though your points are well taken and I agree, I would love to see a commuter rail line from Cleveland down to Canton. I might actually visit Canton once-in-awhile... The distance between Canton and the airport isn't insignificant... hopefully they go with a heavy rail line to get into the city at least. These are all bandaids to fix the problem of running a highway along our lakefront and through our downtown. Tear out I90 and the Eastside geta better access to the lake and the two employment centers of Cleveland aren't separated by a highway making the area in-between much more desirable. East-West through traffic wouldn't be affected that much by routing to 271, 480, back to 90. And I advocate for this as someone who takes 90 to regularly to get from Lakewood to work in Akron.

I was a little pessimistic that the Cleveland area would land this given the locations Honda's and LG's current operations in the state, but this is very promising. CSX has a line to Lorain that could supply the recently announced Ford EV plant there too. And that pessimism isn't necessarily disappointment, this will be good for the broader Ohio economic ecosystem wherever it lands!

This agreement still requires approval of the other parties involved the Irishtown Bend Park project -- i.e. the city, county, metroparks, ect -- so might not go through, but I think it's probably worth being able to get the project started. Also, it seems like this is not the best deal the Georges could have gotten given some of the other proposals I recall seeing, including being able to keep a billboard at the current location as well as receiving two other highway adjacent billboards -- if memory serves.

LG already has a partnership with GM manufacturing in Lordstown, might make sense for them to expand operations there too.

NEO more broadly could see a big boost in federal R&D if we also win the grant for a polymer research and development center. I had posted about it in the Akron-Canton: General Business & Economic News thread: On ARPA-H; there will be a lot of winners if this comes through but I would think this really benefits CSU quite a bit as the nearest state school.

Since they have everything and we shouldn't just copy what everyone else has we should have nothing? I don't think anyone here is saying a ferris wheel would be a huge tourist draw and completely turn the city around, but it would be a nice attraction for residents and visitors alike offering good views of the city and of the lake. It would also take minimal land use and be relatively cheap, so I don't see the issue. But maybe there's something I'm not thinking of...

They just clear cut, the roots are still there to hold things together. For now. I would assume this allows them to move more quickly with the stabilization work? Hopefully the courts move as quickly to resolve the George property issue and that doesn't delay work any longer...

I like that 3 Rivers line. Would like it more if we could adjust the Capitol Limited line to run through Youngstown and Akron too.

I've flowing in and out of the Milwaukee airport a few times for work; its not the newest or nicest airport I've been through, but having the rental car facility attached directly to the terminal was one of the best amenities of any airport I've been through. I even enjoyed it more than O'Hare's new facility which is very nice. Disclaimer: I haven't been through that many airports and have rented cars at fewer.

If the plan is to tear down the hotel for additional parking in the short-term, hopefully it's to provide planners a blank slate so they have more flexibility with the master plan. Maybe being a Clevelander the idea of another surface lot is just triggering and it isn't such a poor use of land at an airport, but I think we could still do better. Rental car facility/garage?

Don't the Guardians have some of the best TV ratings but one of the worst TV contracts that is expiring soon? Big potential in increasing income from that alone. Bundle that with the land purchase deals the city rolled into the stadium renovations it really seems like a prime deal for a company that both owns teams and develops properties....

Building off this; the goals of the metroparks is also different than a city parks department. The metroparks do have good programing at some of their parks and do maintain playgrounds, but a city parks and rec department has to maintain playgrounds, baseball fields and basketball courts, pools, and rec centers. I don't doubt the Metroparks could maintain these, but I don't think the synergies are quite as beneficial as they appear at first glance. Also, having a city department run the parks should, in theory, make it easier to coordinate permits for events with the city rather than having to coordinate with the city and the Metroparks.

Hopefully this commission acts as a central organization to direct the various initiatives announced recently and coordinate organizations and agencies towards a common goal and not just another level of bureaucracy. It sounds like the commission should at least result in enforcing existing laws to preserve what trees we currently have and a funding mechanism through fines to start to restore some of what we've lost.
