Cleveland: Population Trends
I'm derailing this discussion, so I'm sorry. I would at least like that, but no, my dream would be for something much more drastic; like routing I90 onto I271 at Willoughby Hills to I480 over to I80/90 to open all that lakefront land and remove the barrier between Downtown and University Circle. Like I said, unrealistic.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Hopefully the Metropark's investment on the eastside lakefront/Gordon Park helps. I know getting rid of I90 along the lakefront and through downtown is unrealistic, but figuring out how to bridge 90 to better connect those neighborhoods to the lake and downtown is a must. Someone else pointed out that the business district is the #1 employment center in the state and UC is #4. Odds are one person in a house hold works at one or the other (if not split between the 2), so there's no reason those near-eastside neighborhoods shouldn't be thriving.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
My understanding is the reconciliation bill will cover "human" infrastructure, not physical infrastructure. And that's assuming that Senators Manchin and Sinema vote with the rest of the Democrats to pass the reconciliation bill. My hope is that this makes Amtrak more serviceable in more areas, so its base of support expands and future funding becomes easier. Also, if the expanded use allows Amtrak to be more profitable, future requests for expanded service may face less pushback.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Some first hand perspective from the marginalized group might be helpful here since I haven't seen it in the thread yet (sorry if I just missed it, would gladly hear from you). Also includes some good historical context which also seems sorely needed... Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Yes, I acknowledge that. I don't want to minimize it, marginalization of any group is a terrible thing. However, I'm not even sure we're talking about differences of degrees here, its differences in kind. The Irish weren't forced out of their homelands, the Irish weren't systemically massacred by the US Army, the Irish weren't taken as children from their families and placed in schools so they would learn Western culture instead of their own culture. The Irish also didn't face generational marginalization. Again, marginalization of any kind is bad and shouldn't happen, but American Indians weren't just marginalized. I also think you're conflating cultural appropriation and cultural assimilation. One is taken and distorted without the input of the culture, the other is given with consent and guided by the culture. Here is ultimately where I come down on this: when someone tells me, as a white guy, that something is offensive, the burden is not on them to justify why they are offended. I think its also the case that my kneejerk reaction shouldn't be to then explain to them why its not offensive. My lived experience is so very different that I should take the time to understand why it could be offensive. Maybe its the case that the Irish, and in your case Polish, did and still do face harsh marginalization and I should do more work to understand that perspective. Though, I think if that was the case you might be more sympathetic to the complaints of American Indians who are upset that their name was taken and a caricature used without their input or consent and they receive no benefits. From my understanding Florida State has done this comparatively well by working with the Seminole tribe.

I'm not a big fan of the logo design, I think they should lean hard into the art deco aesthetic, but I think there's good reason to think the design will chang. To prevent leaks I would guess they didn't test logo designs w/ a focus group. So knowing it would change they probably went the cheap route, kept a similar font and ran with it. All speculation, but think its worth waiting to see how things develop.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
You also have to consider the power imbalance that exists for group like the American Indians versus a subgroup of European descendants. That's not to say that stereotypes and prejudices haven't existed against European immigrants, but those groups weren't systemically oppressed in the same way, i.e. western culture appropriates American Indian culture, shaping it to fit our need, whereas Europeans, well, they are western culture...

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I agree, it's pretty well cutoff from the rest of Wendy Park and not big enough to be a meaningful addition to the park. I do hope that whatever development takes place includes some sort of connection across the river to the Flats West Bank Shooters area.

Lime ebikes just rolled into Cleveland https://www.thelandcle.org/stories/lime-ebikes-coming-to-cleveland-enhancing-mobility-options-for-riders "The company recently launched 50 e-bikes in Cleveland, with plans to grow the fleet up to 400 in the coming months. This is the first time that e-bikes, which are bikes that provide an electric boost once users start pedaling, are available in Cleveland. They’re already available in many other cities."

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
I think one thing that can help shape a cities culture is it's industries, which I'm not really sure what that would be for Columbus outside of the state government and Ohio State/higher education. Could very well be due to my ignorance of Columbus, broadly speaking. And thinking about Ohio State's affect on the city; it's been such a major part of the city for so long that areas have crafted themselves to serve the college, but with a transient population of students its a moving target. It seems like that has started to change more that Columbus has grown up and had to be less reliant on the college crowds. But this could just be my perception due to where my friends have decided to show me around when I visit as we age out of the college bar scene.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
I'm not sure I understand how developing some of the surrounding area would allow the airport to be profitable? This is more or less what I was getting at. Wouldn't the FAA expect another airport to improve their services for any incremental reduction in services at Burke? Which, based on what you go on to say, sounds like it would be nearly as difficult to do as closing Burke entirely. Just seems like a half-measure to me that would be just as difficult to achieve, have a limited benefit due to regulations for building near an airport, and wouldn't address the underlying financial situation of operating Burke. Will see if spending a bit of time down there and paying attention to the airport does change my impression of the airport.

Not Cleveland's waterfront, but an interesting examination of how cities can reactivate their waterfronts by removing urban highways by looking at a project in Seattle. City Beautiful: What happens after a city removes a freeway?

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
I could be wrong, but I thought one of the issues with decommissioning Burke was the lack of a replacement reliever airport and the specific considerations are to the number of runways available to relieve Hopkins. So if that's the case wouldn't it still be difficult to get FAA buy in to remove a taxiway and inboard runway? This idea is better than nothing, but I'm not sure these renovations are worth it given that Burke has been operating at a loss. Unless these would eliminate some of those cost overheads and allow it to be profitable.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Could have been a good idea to get people into Tower City a few years ago, but now just seems like they're in a panic trying to see what will work. Without permanent tenants there will be nothing for people to return to Tower City for, and holding it during those events will mean its mostly tourists anyway. Sounds like the City Block plan is pretty rudderless now too with the departures of Till and Moreno.
