  1. well i meant when i last saw the numbers about american downtowns it had Cincinnati as losing in both categories http://www.brookings.edu/metro/pubs/20051115_Birch.pdf i think it was with this recent report I'm not sure where i saw it, but umm I'm pretty sure Cleveland isnt an unusual sized downtown, Its very dense aside from the surface lots in the warehouse district.
  2. any renderings?? these wind turbines sound interesting
  3. ^yea i think i found those a while ago. i remember reading somewhere that the 3 C's were each in different categories based on downtown and city proper population, Cincy was losing both city and downtown population, Columbus was gaining in both and Cleveland was losing city but gaining downtown population. another thing however is that Columbus has a huuuge downtown area, Cincy has a tiny one, and Cleveland has an average sized one. So they all vary and its pretty hard to measure and compare. btw The Downtown Cleveland Partnership website has updates on projects as of 2004... heh so they're not quite up to date
  4. awesome news!
  5. would this be good or bad for cleveland??

  7. hah yea i noticed terminal tower was lit up, but i assumed they were going to keep it like that since maybe that phase is finished?? guess we'll see after the RNC committee leaves

  9. i love those things, i hope they do that every year and make them bigger and have more
  10. or the fact that the PD has it on the front page of the business section giving it attention and more credibility that its a go?
  11. well i could see those fitting-in in that standing out like a sore thumb way in downtown cleveland, if that makes sense... but those things look like they overwhelm the neighborhood...

Inner Belt project: path to doubt Business owners on hold until ODOT decides which properties it needs Tuesday, August 22, 2006 James Ewinger Plain Dealer Reporter The mathematics of road design will add a new Inner Belt to Cleveland by 2018, multiply the number of bridges, divide neighborhoods and subtract dozens of buildings. It's the price we pay for living far away from the city where we work and play. For the moment, though, the people paying the price are those in buildings that might be claimed by the Ohio Department of Transportation as the massive public-works project gets under way... 14. Key piece going into place Zaremba project to test downtown housing market Tuesday, August 22, 2006 Henry J. Gomez Plain Dealer Reporter Nathan Zaremba's office offers a view of Jacobs Field and The Q - two sports complexes that taxpayers helped build. "The public sector has made its investment," the Cleveland developer said as he nodded toward the window. "Now the private sector is making its investment." Scott Wolstein has a $230 million plan to redevelop the east bank of the Flats. Bob Stark has a $1 billion proposal to make over the Warehouse District. Both would bring more for-sale homes to connected neighborhoods predominantly known for nightlife. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
  15. well i guess you have a point kjp, i could see them relating because theyre not urban and therefore hurting the area as far as sprawl goes
  16. That would be a great idea! this is wonderful news

yea that table was confusing, i was looking at it thinking that it didnt seem like cleveland was that bad. i was more interested in the last part of the article with the installation of one meter that printed out the time someone paid to park there to put on their dashboard. seems like itd be easier to maintain.

Parking meters get little tracking Cleveland can't tell how much most make Monday, August 21, 2006 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter Park on almost any street in downtown Cleveland, and a parking meter greets you, hungry for quarters. More than 2,000 meters line the downtown streets, most demanding 75 cents to park for an hour. Stay too long and a bright yellow ticket appears on your windshield. That will be $25, please. Visitors grumble that meters are simply money-makers for the city: Last year, Cleveland collected $1.6 million from parking meters. But city officials say their main purpose is to force turnover, which helps businesses that need convenient, short-term parking for customers. www.plaindealer.com To reach this Plain Dealer reporter: [email protected], 216-999-5010
  19. sorry, i do appreciate the fact that you take the time to find these articles and post them. some of them are interesting and stuff i happen to miss. i just meant a lot of them are disconnected with cleveland and are just the result of sprawl which really doesnt fit the theme of urbanohio
  20. man for all these little snippets we should put them in a seperate thread called "boring suburban projects"
  21. ^ i know! she had some amazing work. it makes me so sick and angry. if the creative class is supposed to save cleveland, then maybe we ought to invest in the neighborhoods they live in this is in the "new hip area" Gordon Square, its not like its in the forgotten corners of cleveland
