Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
^ right, but what i've read in other articles is that it'll be finished in 10 years... or at least its aiming to be and its 700 rental units... i thought there was a strong housing market in downtown pittsburgh, why no for sale? seems like all of the cleveland projects including pesht seem to be looking to be complete before 2017... heh even the art museum...

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
well im not even saying the pittsburgh development is that great archiecturally since the rendering looks kinda unfinished and vague, however the design competition is something that a project of this size deserves. I mean yea we dont need one building by building, but there were ones held for the lakefront plan werent there? why not this project as well?? i think its relevant given Stark's source of influence for this development.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
haha sorry but honestly if places like Pittsburgh (where even the metro is steadily shrinking) has developments of that quality then Cleveland sure can as well. i mean granted theirs is rental housing, half the cost of Pesht and is gonna take 10 years to eventually build.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
anyone see this plan for Pittsburgh?? Seems like other rust-belt cities are getting sizeable projects going as well. seems to be a high level of design with this one (or a really creative rendering at least!). I really hope Stark pushes the architecture of this development. An old/new mix would be great here. I really dont think mimicking the warehouse district buildings already there is going to set it apart from lifestyle centers that do the same thing. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06191/704773-100.stm 700-unit housing plan chosen for Cultural District Monday, July 10, 2006 By Timothy McNulty, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust today announced plans for a $460 million housing development that will link the Downtown Cultural District with the Allegheny riverfront. The development, which features 700 rental and condominium units, will be along Fort Duquesne Boulevard between Seventh and Ninth streets. Parking lots currently dominate the area.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
CLEVELAND -- Cleveland might be the most well prepared city in the country to face a certain kind of terrorist threat. "We live in a time of uncertainty," Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said. "There's fear of things happening all around us." But when there's another threat of possible bio-terrorism here, Cleveland will be more ready with the first of its kind laboratory on wheels. ... © 2006 WKYC-TV

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
Steelyard Commons takes form Wednesday, July 12, 2006 Christopher Montgomery Plain Dealer Reporter Construction of Steelyard Com mons -- the $120 million, 1-million-square-foot open-air shopping center in Cleveland's Industrial Valley -- has reached the halfway mark. Its developer, Lyndhurst-based First Interstate Properties Ltd., is still on track to open the shopping center's first phase, 650,000 square feet of retail space and four freestanding restaurants, by spring. An additional 250,000 square feet will be added after that. "When you get into site work on 125 acres that were formerly part of a steel plant, there are going to be some physical challenges," said Mitchell Schneider, First Interstate's president. "But so far, there's been nothing insurmountable, nothing budget-breaking and nothing that's created a serious time delay." ... Schneider said the exhibit building will sit alongside a small park that will have ticket booths for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, which plans to extend its rail line into downtown Cleveland, and a comfort station for users of a proposed extension of the Towpath Trail. Cleveland - Suburban grocer worries Chinatown
Suburb grocer worries Chinatown Wednesday, July 12, 2006 Robert L. Smith Plain Dealer Reporter At Ohio's largest Asian grocery, you can pick out your fish as it swims past and watch as a man in butcher's white nets it, clubs it and wraps it -- magician quick -- in waxed paper. You can choose from among oodles of noodles and buy the news from Hong Kong. In other words, you can shop much as you would at any of the three supermarkets anchoring Chinatown, the Asian-spiced neighborhood on the near East Side. Cleveland - Penton Media
Penton Media Article Penton Media Inc., the Cleveland-based trade magazine publisher and trade show operator, said it has hired an advisor to consider alternatives including the sale of the company. According to a news release, the company has hired Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC " to assist it in exploring various strategic alternatives, including the possible sale of the Company." (Link: Penton site) The release said: The Board has determined to explore strategic alternatives, including a possible sale of the Company, as a way to maximize value for its shareholders. David Nussbaum, the Company's chief executive officer, indicated that the Board's determination that it is an opportune time to evaluate strategic alternatives was based on a number of factors, including that management has successfully improved operating income since the industry recession in early 2001 and the Board's belief that the market is currently very attractive for business-to-business media assets. As part of its recovery, Penton had previously given a special block of shares to investors that bailed it out in 2002. It's now appointed a special committee of the board to represent the interests of the other shareholders and created a formula for how any sale proceeds would be divvied up between regular shareholders and those owning the Series C preferred stock. Cuyahoga County: New Tax to Support the Arts
nah id say youd be shitting on yourself if you smoke anyway, so whats 30 cents more for a pack of cancer sticks? this is great news, the main reason for the opposition last time was the lack of clarity of what the issue was called and since it can be specifically for the arts this might have a shot now.

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
^the home depot in chelsea caught me off guard and impressed me. isnt there a CVS nearby too heh seemed like the one on Euclid in Cleveland. i still dont get the big issue here, its not like with this development that Cleveland has turned over a new leaf to making every new development in the city like this... to jab back and say when are we gonna add a big-box plus a surface parking lot in the middle of downtown is so damn extreme-negative-FreeTimes.
