my friend's parents were driving home from downtown around midnight and ended up in that area. a cop stopped them, told them what direction to go to get out of there and not pay attention to the stop-lights... the area you are talking about tho is a place i wouldnt drive around even during the day, next time i would advise to treat it like a 4 way stop at the light if people were approaching the car like that. as bad as that sounds heh

yea if this shit passes then im not living in Ohio after college. this is flat out insulting EDIT** GOP Leaders: Ohio Anti-Gay Adoption Bill D.O.A. by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff February 11, 2006 - 11:00 am ET (Columbus, Ohio) A bill to ban gays, bisexuals, and transgenderds from adopting, that was proposed this week by 10 far-right Republicans, is dead in the water GOP and Democratic party leaders said Saturday. GOP leaders in the House and Senate said they would not permit the measure to move through committee. House Speaker Jon A. Husted (R- Kettering) through his chief of staff blasted the proposed bill. "Most reasonable people would have a preference for being in a loving, alternative setting rather than an abusive, heterosexual setting," Scott Borgemenke told the Columbus Dispatch. "There’s a growing concern within the Republican party of continuing to introduce this divisive legislation." Borgemenke said that Husted wants the House to concentrate on job creation. "I don’t think that’s a partisan issue. I think that’s the truth," he told the paper. Democrats agree. House Minority Leader Chris Redfern said Democrats will join with Republicans to ensure the bill never gets to a vote. The bill's chief sponsor, Ashville Republican Ron Hood, said if the measure does not make it to the floor this session he will re-introduce it again and again until it does. "Studies have shown that the optimal setting to raise children in is a traditional setting with a mom and a dad," Hood said. Hood claims that children raised in gay households are at "increased risk" of physical and emotional problem. Gay community leaders accuse him of faulty reasoning "To reach out and be a bigot is bad enough. To do it on the backs of children is just wrong," said Jeannette Birkhoff, of Equality Ohio. "Let us be clear, this is not in the best interest of the Children of Ohio," said Russ Goodwin, President of Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio. " It would allow children desperately seeking a loving family to remain in the custody of the state." In 2004 Ohio was one of 11 states to pass constitutional amendments to block gays from marrying. The only state with a blanket ban on gay adoption is Florida. Moves in other states to enact sweeping laws to prevent gays from adopting have failed.

i should say it looks really interesting from those other renderings, but its just one of those things that would fit in nyc or chicago as an interesting thing to see from the street-level, but not far away as a skyline thing. i say build it! congrats louisville

so basically they took a block of 70s boxes and stacked them all random on top of each other... how... "creative" its definately the new rencen
  7. uhmm inferiority complex much??? I could never be jealous of a city that prides itself on crime, its main industry is the car, and is so sprawled out that Toledo is in its metro... not that i really have an issue with Detroit, it has a lot of potential cmon the super bowl thing for Detroit is really one of those "silver bullet" things that dont pan out. i have numerous friends from detroit and all of them say cleveland is farrrr more along in it's renaissance. and as far as national symbols and attention im sure Detroit would kill for something like a Drew Carey Show, a rock hall, or the clinic, etc that cleveland has.
  8. i think its silly to bother with something like this, i mean obviously Detroit is using this thing as "the silver bullet to save the city" and we all know too well (especially cleveland!) how those dont ever pan out. i cant believe theres even talk of spending that much money to dome a friggin stadium when theres much higher priorities this city should be concentrating on. btw how many hotel rooms are there in downtown detroit......???

  13. Alison Grant Plain Dealer Reporter There's a bright note in Northeast Ohio's economy. New claims for unemployment, considered one of the most sensitive measures of the employment market's health, finally returned to their 1999 levels in six of seven counties in the Cleveland-Akron-Lorain-Elyria area. (Medina's new claims were still slightly higher than in '99.).. www.cleveland.com
  14. Christopher Montgomery Plain Dealer Reporter Shaker Heights-based Whole Health Management Inc., a national operator of on-site corporate health and wellness centers, is planning to move its headquarters to the One Cleveland Center office building in downtown Cleveland in June. President and CEO Jim Hummer said Whole Health and its 50 employees will occupy 20,000 square feet on the 25th floor of the building, on East 9th Street between Rockwell and Saint Clair avenues... cleveland.com
  15. id say cleveland has the edge in these kinds of events due to the fact that rail connects from the airport to downtown and the rail it has from downtown to the waterfront attractions (including browns stadium). otherwise it could be a toss-up between cleveland and cincy
  16. Opening day for cleaner, safer downtown is April 7 Wednesday, February 01, 2006 Christopher Montgomery Plain Dealer Reporter The home opener for the Indians on April 7 will also mark the start of something else: private safety patrols and extra maintenance crews working the streets of downtown Cleveland. The new services are part of the rollout of the special-improvement district covering the heart of downtown. Property owners and Cleveland City Council approved the district last year. 17. wait so #8 isnt just the church parking lot?? i remember hearing a blurb about some residential (relatively high numbers too) for that area. gotta love #5, surface parking fronting euclid ave, let the bustling streetlife days begin again! hah as for the suburbaness of it all... heh well... theres nothing there to begin with to even "reflect", which is the issue in the first place. if midtown was still intact along euclid/chester we would be seeing gentrification more along the lines of the near west side.
  18. Cuyahoga leaders back mutual development fund Friday, January 27, 2006 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson joined suburban leaders Thursday in pursuit of a regional answer to urban woes -- a multimillion-dollar development fund that will be replenished with tax sharing. In keeping with a pledge to work beyond Cleveland's borders, Jackson was among 28 mayors and two city managers who voiced a hearty "Aye!" vote endorsing the idea of a $25 million to $50 million development fund. 20. im dreading that north royalton one... theres no two lane roads here, just one in each direction and if they think widening the ones around this development they still arent taking into account that basically the whole city already needs road widening pretty much everywhere on top of the lifestyle center s*** its just going to cause a whole lot more congestion.

yea i dont have an issue with this at all. i was going through the chester intersection a few weeks ago, slowly... and some moron decided to pass me and speed by, and the lights flickered on the cameras so obviously this is quite a common thing. i always think of chester as a highway tho, look at how its made. its a wide street with not much traffic other than cars on it. its like they're inviting people to speed here with the way its made.
  22. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060125/FREE/60125002/1004&Profile=1004 Local land preservation groups merge By SCOTT SUTTELL 10:55 am, January 25, 2006 Eight Northeast Ohio groups dedicated to land preservation have merged into a single regional organization called the Western Reserve Land Conservancy. The merged organization said that its goal is to “protect forests, farms, wetlands and other natural areas” in a 14-county area of Northeast Ohio. The territory covers stretches from Ashtabula, Mahoning and Trumbull counties in the east, to Erie and Huron counties in the west. It also includes Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Summit, Stark and Wayne counties.
  23. hmm all this talk about "homosexuals" (what is this, the 70s??) makes me wonder about the bisexuals and transexuals and pansexuals and pomosexuals... i mean they count too right? hah and what about the new movement going on now where younger or "normal" gay people who dont even identify with the community anymore? kinda hard to count those first off i think its ridiculous to try to use a personals website to count gay people. what about the amount of knowledge that straight people have with the community, the diversity of the gay community, etc?? those would be better factors in showing how much this population is integrated within the larger one. id say cleveland and columbus offer the most as far as the 3Cs towards gay people. with columbus being for young people and cleveland being for the 25 and up crowd. and in cleveland it sure shows how much the gay community supports the bigger art community here which both help create fun interesting cultural neighborhoods. its a pretty simple formula. the extra income helps without the kids. (but dont tell the lesbians in cleveland hts that)
