How Do You Explain Ohio To People?
Uhhh... i say im from Cleveland, i havent met a single person outside of ohio who doesnt know that Cleveland is on the great lakes like Chicago, Detroit, and Toronto... FARMS? jeez i get irritated when someone asks if i seen drew carey around or 'hang out' at the rock and roll hall of fame... i did however have a friend who went to nyc and she said shes from ohio rather than cleveland and the people she stayed with kept pointing out "buses" and "skyscrapers" to her as if she never seen em before. when she finally explained she lives in a burb of cleveland they kinda had an "ohh.. well thats totally different!" reaction to her.

i dont know if this project is dead yet. check out the website and use "red" and "rose" as the username/password. theres a new video on there that has photos of The Pinnacle u/c and District Park and includes the spencer tunick thing. currently its only open to investor relations but still i dont think its totally dead yet given the fact that similar sized projects are going on in other places downtown...

Intel imagines wireless Cleveland
Cleveland up for Intel's Worldwide Digital City award By SHANNON PETTYPIECE July 04. 2005 6:01AM Cleveland will find out this month if efforts to prove its worth as a high-tech town will be rewarded with Intel Corp.'s Worldwide Digital City designation. Such a coup would launch Cleveland and a handful of other cities as showcases of cutting-edge technology and make them potential magnets for millions of dollars in support for technology projects and in-kind donations from technology giants such as Intel, IBM and Cisco Systems Inc. If selected, the city expects an initial investment from Intel of up to $500,000, which would be used to implement high-tech projects in the region, said Chris Ronayne, chief of staff for Mayor Jane Campbell. "Intel is interested in bringing several hundred thousand dollars to the equation. With long-term wider applications, that initial investment could multiply into the millions," Mr. Ronayne said. http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-4447924/Cleveland-up-for-Intel-s.html

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Developer parks lots of hope in city plan Sunday, June 26, 2005 Nothing symbolizes dashed hopes in Cleveland more than the acres of surface parking lots that scar downtown. That's why it was good news last month when Cleveland developer Nathan Zaremba announced his intention to fill three large, city-owned parking lots just east of the central business district with townhouses and midrise apartment buildings. Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
GREAT LAKES SCIENCE CENTER GETS APPROVAL FOR WIND TURBINE June 17th, 2005 June 17, 2005 - In their meeting this morning, the City Planning Commission gave its approval for the initial phase of the Great Lakes Science Center’s multi-stage initiative to explore the possibilities of renewable energy resources. The Planning Commission approved the installation of a single wind turbine on the front lawn of the Science Center. The project is made possible by the support of the Cleveland Foundation. As the home of the largest exhibition about the Great Lakes in the country, the Science Center intends to use the turbine and the data collected to educate its visitors and the public about wind power and its potential benefits for the region. Easily accessible to pedestrians using Erieside Avenue, the installation will feature outdoor interpretive panels that will show data captured in real time. As an additional benefit, it is expected that the single utility-grade turbine will provide an estimated 10-12% of the Science Center’s energy needs. “Our mission is to bring enhanced levels of science learning to people of all ages, in a tangible and exciting way,” said Science Center President and Executive Director Dr. Linda Abraham-Silver. “By demonstrating the interrelationship between science, technology and the environment, the wind turbine project brings our mission to life in a very accessible way and takes full advantage of our lakefront location.” The turbine’s overall height will be approximately 145 feet with a blade diameter of 88 feet. Similar urban wind turbine projects have proven to be tourist attractions in their own right and it is anticipated that this installation will enhance Cleveland’s lakefront skyline and help position the city as one with a focus on renewable energy resources. It is anticipated that the installation will be completed by November of this year.
