ARTS & LIFE Proposed Cuyahoga Valley Bridge Is Mediocre at Best Cleveland just won a victory — sort of — in the debate over whether to build a new interstate highway bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley as a gateway to downtown. So why not cheer? Because, like so many other aspects of urban design in the city, the solution proposed by the Ohio Department of Transportation is a mediocre compromise. It’s unlikely to achieve the highest potential in either beauty or economic development, despite a cost that will run to hundreds of millions of dollars. A column.

isnt johnson court tower the one that was supposedly going to be 20 stories?? the architects were also the ones that did one of the proposals for the convention center if im not mistaken
  7. LOL ehh... the muscle guys are not my type... i like the "Rainbows and Triangles" its like straight to the point haha
  8. yea i used to work on Elmwood -right- next to that new project. its basically 'cut off' from the areas to the south of I-90. like the streets dont go under or over the highway, they just end... theres even a surface lot in the one area

i dont know, those lots are packed on saturdays for the market, people come from all over... id say put in a parking garage in the lot closest to the market and redevelop the other lot into something else.
  10. some project renderings for the new corner parks
  11. http://zaceman.com/viaduct.jpg the viaduct makes a wonderful parking lot... theres a decent amount of people who are on it at all times tho, walking to wherever. i still wish there was a retail element to it though also as far as Spaces gallery... i work there haha... id say they're doing well. they even started a world artists program where they get artists from around the country and the world to stay in cleveland for a period of time and create a work to be displayed during their openings. thats also where much of the activity on the viaduct comes from tho, gallery openings/closings...
  12. i wonder if district park will come back in some other form
  13. ^ i think they were talking about big ticket stuff they did leave out the convention center though
  14. i just drove by there today and thinking of those lots all built up right there, its going to look real dense and lovely
  15. i think it -was- stalled, but i thought just recently there was more movement on it? Battery site ready to go Thursday, May 19, 2005 By DAVID PLATA West Side Sun News

i remember seeing a plan for a new one in cleveland's university circle at euclid and chester. holy crap im glad they didnt build it haha.
  17. well well, thats a new tone for the local news
  18. isnt there some way to undermine the mayors in getting something on the ballot to do a massive consolidation that the voters decide on? its kinda silly that we're letting these politicians figure out how to make less politicians and government. it could easily turn into a lot of hot air.
  19. yes exactly, we dont like that all too much haha although strangely enough i did see an ad for artist studios in the city club building...?? for 150/month. im not sure if i would consider it that ideal of a place to have one of those in.
  20. now if only FC had this kind of idea where to help fix the mall they should build some residential stuff near it.
  21. Upscale housing project gets OK Condos, galleries in downtown plan Tuesday, May 24, 2005 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter A downtown neighborhood with upscale homes, cafes and art galleries could sprout as early as next year near the Galleria at Erieview. Cleveland City Council on Monday approved the sale of three city-owned parking lots on East 12th and East 13th streets, near St. Clair and Superior avenues, to developer Zaremba Inc. City officials want to complete the sale by Oct. 15 so that construction on the project can start in spring 2006. The $150 million Avenue District development would create what Nathan Zaremba envisions as a quiet, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood with 423 condominiums and townhomes, coffee shops and galleries. Housing prices would range from $187,000 to $333,000. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com

i hear cleveland has some surface parking and an underdeveloped lakefront i bet i already complained about this already in this post
  23. wow a rehabbed AT Tower and a rehabbed convention center that connects to the new lakefront plan? finally forest city does something good lately
  24. oh wow, yea that does work, i guess i was just thinking of the "hole" as the space for the building. google maps, quite handy... lol
  25. i dont like that niketown proposal AT ALL!! if anyone has ever seen the wall right there its this ugly red/brown, it needs a tower right there. something 15+ OVEr a niketown. why dont they do this?! the mall and everything around there isnt in the highest potential use because no one LIVES there. the convention center aint gonna fix it either. although i think they would have to reroute the roads if they built a tower in that shape, it juts out rather far...
