  1. This system really is the factor in why sprawl is so bad. It already happened because cities crapped out in the 70s, but even the fact that they've made incredible gains since then no one wants to live there because the schools are crappy. And then you have a "chicken or the egg" cycle. No money to fund schools because the middle class population has moved out because the schools got bad because there isnt money to fund them since the middle class.... heh
  2. http://zaceman.com/LJ/6-23-04/ferry2.jpg"> well good, i was hoping this lakefront area would be developed. Theres just a surface lot and a underused warehouse just sitting there. I hope more than a park comes of this since theres so much land. Arent condos planned for this? They should build some 30+ story condos right behind the browns stadium. That would be awesome.
  3. Downtown Lazarus store sees last shoppers, shuts doors 8/15/2004, 12:07 a.m. ET The Associated Press COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Sales manager Janet Faime said she could have said something monumental when she officially announced that the Downtown Lazarus-Macy's store had closed for good. Instead, she kept it simple. "Good evening, Lazarus shoppers," she said into the store intercom Saturday. "It is now 5 p.m., and this Downtown location is closed. Thanks for your support." Then, she began locking the entrances of the six-story emporium built in 1909 to replace the original store from 1851. Hours before, when the store opened at 10 a.m., customers lined up outside. Some took pictures. Some did what people have done in the store for the past 153 years — they shopped. Linda Jones, of Upper Arlington, looked for rugs, fixtures and even mannequins to decorate an antique shop she's opening in Sunbury. Lori Cox, who works for Muirfield Village Golf Club and the Memorial Tournament, bought wooden display cases she'll use for trophies and awards. Clyde and Toni Berry were among the first inside. They said their family's history is tied to the store. Toni Berry's grandmother was an elevator operator, her father worked there part time during college, and she worked at the Downtown store in the 1970s. Clyde Berry said the couple sacrificed their cool to be there. "Our kids think we're corny, but it's OK," he said. "I'll be corny today." Only 50 employees stayed for the final day. A similar number transferred to other stores since Federated Department Stores, the parent of Lazarus-Macy's, announced the store would close a year ago. Bobbie Reeves, at 42 years the longest-serving Downtown employee, is headed to Kingsdale. On the store's last day she perched behind a display case and chatted with customers. "I'm playing the Wal-Mart greeter," she said. It was an ironic choice of words at a time when analysts say discounters like Target and Wal-Mart are one reason many downtown department stores across the country have shut their doors forever. Thats so depressing. At least the news reported on it as a rip on Target and Wal-Mart, but still. Hopefully something else will come along?
  4. thats quite impressive
  5. I've never described the airport as "ugly" or "futuristic" or "nice". "functional" always comes to mind, and its connected to the rapid. lol
  6. ^ which is why every now and then when you go downtown you notice buildings you never seen before
  7. haha of course they would "question the need" for these, they're risking losing residents in their own little enclaves. Anything that the city builds to piss off the suburbs is fine in my book. but seriously though a non-stop trip to Tokyo?? that would be awesome.
  8. E4th is going to be amazing. its already lively even without a street lol

  12. <img src="http://www.airport-technology.com/projects/cleveland/images/CLEVELAND-HOPKINS-1.jpg"> New runway boosts capacity at Cleveland airport CLEVELAND (AP) — Aviation officials said a new runway will allow Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to handle about 40% more takeoffs and landings each year. The 9,000-foot runway, which opened Thursday morning with the arrival of a Continental Airlines 737-800 from Seattle, will boost capacity for yearly takeoffs and landings to 525,000 from 368,000, said Cleveland Port Control Director John Mok. The expansion also improves airport efficiency, which should reduce delays and could help entice new flights and new airlines. Because its looked at as intolerant of people who are different. If someone is moving from another country or another culturally different city they may question whether or not they would feel accepted in Ohio. It might not be a defining reason, but it definately puts the state in a bad light. Esp when you live right across from Ontario which allows full gay marriage, and also has Toronto, one of the most diverse cities in the world.

Its irritating to hear stuff like this though, it really would influence me if i wanted to live in the state or not. i really dont want to move, but when you have things like this happening, its very enticing to leave this place when you get a chance or when the opportunity comes and when you arrive in your new destination you can tell all the people you meet how backwards Ohio is. And perpetuate the stereotype. Maybe im blind, but i dont see, not even in the suburbs, people in cleveland trying to get this on the ballot. you ask most people and they'll give a few remarks about more important issues like education and the economy and to stop wasting time with this.
