  1. did they add the office component to this? i dont think i see it in those photos
  2. I think talking it up like its an artists colony is what will get the yuppie-types wanting to live there, at least thats what they're hoping. id say older more established artists and designers could possibly afford places like this. its probably easier to get places like Tyler Village into artists spaces since they're much bigger, more 'raw' and more affordable.
  3. that house was packed when i drove by it last week. i think that little cluster of houses has potential, i saw a few looking like they were being renovated (more closer to the main tremont neighborhood, but still).
  4. this is great news, i like the fact that the galleria is finding new uses for its empty spaces
  5. wow do i wanna read all the garbage on this thread? Debating Great Lakes beaches? haha anyway I give Cleveland a B-, broken ground on The Avenue District, almost done with Stonebridge along with a massive plan for more of those, University Circle humming along with construction. Some negative stuff would be crime increases in some neighborhoods, still no population increase, also keep hearing about Ohio City pricing out lower income people due to gentrification (which to me sounds bad due to the fact that the amount of new jobs are still stagnant in the region).
  6. yea it looks pretty amazing with even just that little bit all lit up. i saw it last night as well
  7. hmm that rendering looks even more intense haha... i bet if there were three in a row or a few next to each other it wouldnt look so penis-like
  8. haha oh man, i dunno, that thing looks ridiculous just sitting there on the grass, i think it needs to be better incorporated into something else. the only place i could see getting away with a giant off-white screw with propellers on grass sorta thing would be of course right near the science center.
  9. hmm too bad that article is for subscribers only, anyone have access to it?
  10. Key Tower hands down. Altho I have to agree that Carew is a close second in this one
  11. wow 500,000 sq ft?? thats pretty huge, I wonder how big that office building would be
  12. ohh chester and 93rd, that makes sense, they already demolished that gas station that was there. its a small parcel, i wonder how big they want to make that hotel.
  13. no it was going full speed today around noon when i drove by it...
  14. This is a really exciting idea, however, i think it does tend to slant the convention center thing to Forest City because if Cleveland becomes a film hotspot (which is a great thing) it just becomes another arguement to keep the old convention center for another use and build new behind Tower City...
  15. "Relocation videos have begun to feature dreadlocks and mosh pits instead of sunsets and duck ponds." Lol werent those 'hip' 10 years ago?? I'm pretty sure a lot of that stuff could fit into the whole irony thing thats going on now. this article kind of depresses me, the whole reason I'm personally interested in city life is the fact that its unscripted and diverse, not some kind of template thing that really seems kinda pre-fab suburban. its basically suburban mindset decorated with stuff thats considered 'cutting edge' in a safe consumable way.
  16. hmmm... if its not new to UO then why is it such a secret?? is it more specific like an office tower? hotel? residential building?
  17. ok thats still confusing, i think this is the only major project proposed downtown unless the flats and stonebridge count in all that as well
  18. wait theres another project.... huh?

that last sentence.... huh? what neighborhoods? its in between the industrial valley and a highway...
  20. Demand for Cleveland-size convention centers is up Saturday, November 04, 2006 Sarah Hollander Plain Dealer Reporter Some promising convention-industry news could help reinvigorate the stalled debate over whether to build a new convention center in downtown Cleveland. North American convention and trade show business continues to rebound, according to results from an annual survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers, a consulting firm. The report shows a 6 percent increase in demand for medium-size centers, such as Cleveland's. The company measured demand by both the number of days and space used. 21. Is there a thread about actual casino proposals? Issue 3 could boost downtown Developers putting money on proposal for gambling Saturday, November 04, 2006 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter Voter approval of Issue 3 would not only open Ohio to casino-style gambling, it also would pump up key-but-struggling downtown properties owned by two of Greater Cleveland's most prominent developers. Forest City Enterprises Inc. and Jacobs Entertainment Inc. have spent several million dollars in support of Issue 3, which would allow up to 3,500 slot machines at each of Ohio's seven racetracks and at two riverside sites in downtown Cleveland. Those sites are behind Forest City's Tower City Complex and at businessman Jeff Jacobs' Nautica Entertainment Complex, on the west bank of the Flats. More at http://www.cleveland.com/plaindealer
