Cincinnati: Renaissance on the River
It’s an interesting history. Cincinnati was originally and historically the Alpha City of the midwest. Its all about Transportation. Cincinnati is the oldest City in Ohio. (Marietta's a town) Riverboat travel existed before railroads or automobiles. Cincy's booming growth predated that of Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland & Detroit's. (The last three really exploded after the industrial revolution, first decades of 20th century.) Just look at the US Census historical records data. Its all there. 200 years ago Cincy's only rival city was New Orleans, maybe St. Louis... both river cities. The emergence of the Railroad in 1880s heralds the arrival of Chicago on the scene as the Midwest’s new King City. Cincinnati peaked with 500,000 in 1960. It’s been all downhill from there... But one can only imagine what kind of city it was back in the Riverboat Era of civil war. That’s when two National Political Conventions were held in Over the Rhine's Music Hall. Back when Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was inspired to dub it the "Queen City" in his poetry. Back when German immigrants packed the river basin to give it a truly international feel of a Destination. Back when John Roebling erected what was the Longest Suspension Bridge IN THE WORLD in 1865. A Title only to be surrendered to the Brooklyn Bridge, and eventually the Golden Gate. This was the Golden Era of my city's history, culminating with a Cincinnatian (Taft) in The White House. There's little doubt that the turn of the 21st Century has seen Cin City explode with a plethora of projects revitalizing our urban core. Maybe it's pure coincidence, but at the turn of the Millenium Cincinnati began to invest in itself. The positive effects of these projects remains to be felt in the near future. As population loss has bottomed out, the City is rebounding, and growing again. Many years from now, historians will look back at this point in time and declare this the moment when Cincinnati returned to greatness!!!  8-) All of these mega-projects occured within a 10 year period, just one decade. Here's a list... Paul Brown Stadium New Ballpark CAC NURFC Newport on the Levee Fountain Square Renovation The Ascent Queen City Square The Banks Casino Streetcar System New SCPA Renovation of Washington Park OTR - Gateway Quarter 21C. Hotel & Mariott @Lytle Park Christian Morlein Lager House Central Riverfront Park Convention Center expansion The McAlpin Southshore Tower Parker Flats & Adams Landing Purple People Bridge...

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
All you haters out there need 2 get a clue. this skyscraper is f$&king gorgeous!!! I'm pleasantly surprised with how aqua blue the glass turned out!! :-) the renderings had it looking a bland grey. FYI The crown is what makes this tower. It transforms it from a typical corporate office building into something much more. With the crown, it transcends into a symbol. A symbol for the region. A landmark. The crown jewel of the Queen City's skyline. A bit of glitz & bling in an otherwise hokey and dull midwest. It becomes a monument to all the hopes and dreams of 21st Century Cincinnatians. A beacon of hope along the mighty Ohio River...where every other city in this distressed state (xcept c-bus) is losing jobs and population, Cincinnati perserveres. We are growing...Taller, Bigger, Stronger, Better. Expect to see local migration into the city from surrounding areas. Especially now that our sports teams are kicking ass. Sports, as many of you know, are great PR for any city. This is a strong statement to the country Cincy. Great things are happening. Can you feel the energy?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
its great how the bend on E 4th gives you a wonderful terminating vista into the tower. classic urban design, really improves the value of Lytle Park. p.s. you can also see the crown poking through the trees from Washington Park

Cincinnati: Demo of old warehouse building behind new P&G child care facility
F THIS SH!T. PG think they can just DESTROY this for what??? some fuckin playground? gimme a break. I love the coke mural gateway for downtown and the vintage water tower. This was a totally cool special building, and this is a tragedy. There new childcare facility is an ugly piece of crap too. this part of downtown is a wasteland.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I have an important question (maybe John Senhauser/jmeck/shermen) could help me out with this info??? I just spoke with a State Rep whose district includes West End. He mentioned there are cobblestones and streetcar rails already under the pavement in all of OTR's streets. (Like in front of Music Hall.) Can these rails be reused??? Do we need to tear out the existing cobblestones? How much would that cost? Tearing out the cobblestones could provide jobs and employment opportunity...The State Rep told me he doesnt want to get construction underway, then have to deal with the headaches of added costs of tearing out existing infrastructure. Are these things considered in the current plan?
