Cleveland: Downtown Cleveland Alliance News & Discussion
Mark-Thanks for all of the hard work you guys do. You and your staff definitely make a difference. Can you shed any light on your ability to do any work on Public Square? There has been some discussion on this forum as to the DCA's involvement there. Are you allowed to work on PS?

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
^Yes I mostly agree. And I wouldn't be upset if Cleveland did come to them first. Suburbs have been enticing businesses away from Cleveland for about 50 years now. They have used every dirty trick in the book trying to increase there own tax base. It is the reason areas like 271 & Chagrin or 77 & Rockside exist. I say steal away and don't look back.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Cavs ink Moon to offer sheet The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued their offseason remodeling by signing restricted free agent Jamario Moon to an offer sheet. Full details of the offer sheet are unlikely to be known until Monday, when the contract is submitted to the league office. But sources said that the deal signed Friday, which Heat officials confirmed after an ESPN.com report earlier Sunday -- spans two guaranteed years. The Miami Heat will have seven days to match the offer once it's formally processed, but Cleveland would appear to have a good chance of landing Moon given Miami's well-chronicled desire to avoid new contracts longer than one year to protect its 2010 salary-cap space. Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Im glad we re-signed Andy. At 27 I think he has a strong upside. And although I wish Parker were 3 inches taller, it looks like a good pick-up. Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
Looks like the worlds richest hillbilly and the money behind the "swift boat ads" is getting out of the wind power business. I wonder if Bill Mason has made the phone call yet? T. Boone Pickens calls off massive wind farm in Texas by Associated Press Tuesday July 07, 2009, 7:13 PM T. Boone Pickens HOUSTON -- Plans for the world's largest wind farm in the Texas panhandle have been scrapped, energy baron T. Boone Pickens said Tuesday, and he's looking for a home for 687 giant wind turbines. Pickens has already ordered the turbines, which can stand 400 feet tall -- taller than most 30-story buildings. "When I start receiving those turbines, I've got to ... like I said, my garage won't hold them," the legendary Texas oilman said. "They've got to go someplace." continued at>>>>>> http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2009/07/t_boone_pickens_calls_off_mass.html[/url]

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
This is just a thought, but I always imagined the ClevelandTrustRotunda as being a great place for a museum. It is such a beautiful space. I know that in the past the Crawford Auto/Air Museum was rumored to be looking for a place downtown. BTW if you don't know the Crawford Auto Museum was originally located at E30th and Chester from 1943 to about 1963. It was originally called the Thompson Products Auto Album. (See http://www.wrhs.org/index.php/crawford for more info). I am just thinking how cool it would be for that building to house something special that is unique to Cleveland. If done correctly it would bring allot of focus and attention to that corner. Like I said just a thought.

Other States: Passenger Rail News
I know we often think that Cleveland is the only city that experiences delays and cancelled projects. But this economy is killing everyone, even the sun belt. Light-rail extension planned for 19th Ave. delayed until 2014 Phoenix can't afford to open 3-mile leg yet 8 comments by Sean Holstege - Jun. 25, 2009 12:00 AM The Arizona Republic Phoenix officials have put the brakes on the new light-rail system's first expansion, saying it cannot afford to build tracks or operate trains along another 3 miles of 19th Avenue. The delay of at least 16 months means the soonest the light-rail extension can open is 2014, about six years after the starter line opened. Deputy City Manager Ed Zuercher said he decided against asking the Phoenix City Council to award a construction contract on the Northwest Extension because local sales-tax receipts, the sole funding source, have nose-dived in the past three months. Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
By the looks of their website this seems to be Marinescape's first U.S. Location. http://www.marinescape.co.nz/wb_pg/cont_fla.html If you think about it this could be good for the WaterFront Line. By building a relationship with the GLSC and the RTA, a combined ticket could be offered for entry to all three. With the ample amount of inexpensive parking at the PowerHouse you could start your day there then be shuttled over to the WFL and be on your way to the GLSC. I think it is a creative use for the Powerhouse and could be a much needed boost for that area. I wonder if Jacobs has given up on gambling? I hope not. Also I wonder what they think about this---> http://www.clevelandaquarium.org/index.htm And here is a cool PDF with pictures to the history of the old Cleveland aquarium: http://www.clevelandaquarium.org/downloads/AquariumHistory_10-2006.pdf

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
I don't mean to take this thread in a different direction but any talk of a subway system brings to my mind when Cleveland or more specifically Dennis Kucinich and George Forbes told the federal government that Cleveland was not interested in something called the PeopleMover. It was 1976 and Cleveland at the time was chosen as a finalist for the Downtown People Mover Program. But our hero DK(aka BoyMayor) and his arch enemy GF(aka CityBoss) decided for the rest of us that Cleveland would pull out of this program. Read this excerpt from "A Brief History of UMTA's Downtown People Mover Program": In 1976, after receiving and reviewing 68 letters of interest and 35 full proposals and making on-site inspections of the top 15 cities, UMTA selected proposals from Los Angeles, St. Paul, Minnesota, Cleveland and Houston. It also concluded that Miami, Detroit and Baltimore would be permitted to develop DPMs if they could do so with existing grant committments. In 1997, the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate Appropriations Conference Committee told UMTA to include Baltimore, Indianapolis, Jacksonville and St. Louis as part of the program. UMTA also added Norfolk, Virginia to the program. Cleveland and Houston were the first to withdraw from the program. Later, St. Paul also withdrew after its voters did not approve their project. Read more at: http://74.6.239.67/search/cache?ei=UTF-8&p=Downtown+People+Mover+Program&fr=slv8-hptb8&u=faculty.washington.edu/jbs/itrans/dpmhist.htm&w=downtown+people+mover+movers+program+programs&d=IHmrRxlMS5ft&icp=1&.intl=us I understand that Detroit's PeopleMover has been nothing but a money pit and has performed well below expectations, but I love the thing. Anytime I am in Detroit it is a must ride. I love that form of rail. In my mind all rail should be elevated, winding its way through and around buildings as it fly's overhead. Detroit's system is 2.9 miles long. I would have loved to have had that train working its way through downtown Cleveland. the high line park in manhattan is now open
I have been following this project for some time now. To me this is brilliant. I love green spaces within an urban texture. I would like to see more of this thinking here in Cleveland. Thank you for these. And what an amazing city NewYork is.

I think I remember Cimperman saying that the price tag is high because there are pipes and concrete underground that need to come up. That is probably driving up the price.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
^ "Heavily traveled" is all relative as to where you are. In Cleveland it is heavily traveled.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Well what would you call it? Seems heavily traveled to me. And that will only increase after the OC. Structure Number: 1811991, Location: 0.8 MI. EAST OF JCT I-71 (Lat: 41.476953, Lng: -81.678383), Route carried "on" structure: Interstate 490, Year Built: 1990, Status: Open, Average Daily Traffic: 63,010 (year 2004), Truck Traffic: 7%, Average Future Daily Traffic: 87,458 (year 2027), Design Load: HS 20+Mod, Features Intersected: CUYAHOGA RIVER

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
^ I disagree that this is a dumb idea. What is dumb and embarrasing is having a heavily traveled freeway "deadend" in the middle of a major american city. This is our chance to fix that.
-
Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
..uhm...yeah. Looks like a fair amount of older residential too me. What am i missing?
-
Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
In comparing the two I was not suggesting that we turn Cleveland into Westlake. What I meant to point out is how well that project fits within that space. I understand Clevelands urban setting will require a much different approach. I think your example above is a bit extreme considering that much of this road will run through an already mature neighborhood. And we need to consider those who make that there home.
