  1. Good news in tough times. Tower City Center signs two stores and a restaurant Posted by Janet H. Cho/The Plain Dealer February 17, 2009 11:18AM Tower City Center has signed two stores and a restaurant to move into vacant spaces at the downtown Cleveland mall next month. continued at>>>>>>>> http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2009/02/tower_city_center_signs_two_st.html
  2. I was able to attend about two thirds of the public meeting and I came away impressed with the overall presentation. Let MMPI do what they do. I was amazed at the amount of work that they have put into it. Very thorough. ForestCity's effort was predictable, same old story. I don't now how far from the final the renderings will be but I like the direction it's taking. Very nice.

Hmm. I am sorry, I guess I was unaware that we had a relationship... I've always been bad at picking up these kind of signals...stupid stupid stupid :bang2:
  4. ^I agree. I was a big fan of the work LMN did in the initial renderings. But in Cleveland we have to get used to the words "Scaled Down". Because going forward that is just the reality of it.

I'm assuming it's goodbye cold storage building? I hope this is one of the buildings in question. If the new bridge does anything I pray it will take down both of these buildings. I have hated these buildings my entire life. And now the only reason they stand is for someone to collect a monthly check from the advertising that's plastered on them. Personally I will be very happy when these two eyesores hit the ground. cya. Now if only we could only tear down the Justice Center, Cleveland Public Power, Aviation High School and build something at the Ontario Triangle(where the Labron sign is) I will be a happy man.

  7. my fiance and I are actually having them do our wedding cake for 450 people in June... 450!!!??? people??? :drunk: :bang:
  8. I am going to try and ignore all of the politics that are about to be played out with this development until a shovel actually goes into the ground. Hopefully it will all work out. But as far as the project itself I am a big fan of the work that has been done by LMN Architects. To me it is a very well thought out proposal. Contemporary and forward thinking while still respecting the space. And I hope the MM component of it will be as cutting edge as the equipment it will display. They should be given strong consideration for the work. If you haven't yet checked out their site. Here it is again. http://www.lmnarchitects.com/projects/project.asp?mkt=3&prj=60
  9. I'll take part of the blame on that, because the last I'd heard was that the commissioners wanted to put the convention center at Tower City. There was no need to tell them about the location for a future Cleveland station. Besides, until there is a source of money at the state and federal levels to build passenger rail service, there wasn't any reason to take the prospects for rail seriously. That is starting to change with the recent actions of Congress and the desires of ODOT and the city. But it is only just starting. Understood. But my larger point was that if I know about the various proposals that are being discussed concerning development in Cleveland, how come they don't. It's not like a larger train station is a new idea. It has been discussed for years in some form or other. But unfortunately we put people in charge who really do not have the same passion for Cleveland as we do. Which I always think is the bigger problem. They don't think and dream about the same things that we do when it comes to Cleveland. It is merely a job to them.

  11. Hey a positive article. New Cleveland convention center will attract business no matter where it is, experts sayPosted by Jim Nichols and Joe Guillen/Plain Dealer Reporter January 25, 2009 06:00AM Chris Stephens/The Plain DealerFor many convention-industry heavyweights, it doesn't matter where a new downtown Cleveland facility is built. They just want a new one. Several convention planners familiar with Cleveland say that any new convention center could propel the city among the top competitors for trade shows and expos -- even in the dreary winter months. continued at>>>> http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/01/new_cleveland_convention_cente.html#more
  12. Cuyahoga County, the lead agency on the convention center, isn't necessarily aware of the current 3-C Corridor planning effort by the Ohio Rail Development Commission. KJP This is a very disturbing statement if it is true. How could the commissioner's who were charged with this critical decision of the placement of the CC not take this into account. I can only hope that these guys are not this out of touch.
  13. Ughh!! Green tinted glass and bright orange seats...makes me cringe
  14. Holy crap this is a great link from the above article. I just spent like an hour on it. Go through the different pages and check out all of the old photos and articles. Read the 1903 Report on the Group Plan, very cool. This stuff is like porn to me. http://groupplan.dhellison.com/buildings.php?ss=ConventionCtrPhotos
  15. I have been critical of the mayors non-involvement in this from the start. I really think his recent decision to get more involved created an urgency to speed this thing up. We need this mayor to lead and get pissed when things don't happen, I applaud his efforts. Big city mayors can have a great influence on things when they throw there weight around, they hold all of the cards. Now while he his on a roll, if i was him I would go knock on the front door of the chairman of the Eaton Corp. and say...uh we need to talk...and your not leaving. But thats another thread...
  16. I don't question Wolstien's love for Cleveland or his desire to see his fathers dream realized, but I am skeptical of the timing of this and its possibility to threaten and further complicate the progress that is being made with the MedMart/Convo Ctr.
  17. I am glad to see the mayor be a little more proactive lately in his efforts to see some of these projects move forward. I don't think this is a perfect project, but I am fine with its intent as it is currently proposed. There needs to be a better connection to UC and this one is the most ready to go. I am also for anything that replaces some of the desolation that is there now. I believe this will have the same positive effect on spurring other developments in the area as the Euclid Corridor has.
  18. I'm just about done with Wolstein as having any credibility. I am still skeptical as to his decision to hold up on the FEB project, and the real reason behind it. I think it has less to do with the economy and more to do with his desire to soak every drop of other monies into the project before he commits his. His supposed motivation behind the flats was that it was his fathers dream to me make it happen, a dream he wanted to see realized. I think this latest effort is just to get someone elses money involved. Unfortunately in a city that is so starved for any kind of development, we will have to listen and hope that the delay will not jeopardise multiple projects.
  19. correct. you can see it here: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,6860.30.html I believe at the time the thought was to build a hotel with the complex and the tranist center be in the bottom floor of the western half of the complex. Now it looks like they are saving space to the east of the center for "future development". But certainly building out the transit center stand alone first prohibits it being a part of a larger structure as previously envisioned. Too bad. Yeah thnx for that, I couldnt find it.
  20. Regarding the East Side Transit Center was their not an earlier rendering from a couple of years ago that was quite different than this one. I seem to remember a multi-storied building that was located in a different area than this one. Before I search all of these pages does anyone recall this. Or is this a different project alltogether?
  21. fabulous :x :? Convention expert Bruce Harris supports Tower City medical mart site Posted by Jim Nichols/Plain Dealer Reporter January 19, 2009 04:45AM Categories: Medical, Medical Mart, Real Time News Tracy Boulian/The Plain Dealer Bruce Harris, one of the most influential figures in convention and conference booking, says that the Tower City site is best for the medical mart complex in Cleveland. One of the most influential figures in convention and conference booking says Cleveland could wreck its future as a meeting place if Cuyahoga County commissioners pick the existing Cleveland Convention Center as the site for a replacement facility. continued at>>>>>> http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/01/tower_city_medical_mart_site_u.html
  22. West Shoreway lanes closed for long-term sewer projectPosted by Karen Farkas/Plain Dealer Reporter January 14, 2009 03:30AM Categories: Real Time News, Traffic Thomas Ondrey/The Plain Dealer The West Shoreway will have lanes closed through mid-2010 as the Sewer District replaces a culvert. Traffic was backed up into Lakewood Tuesday. Cleveland's latest highway headache is the West Shoreway, where lanes will be closed through mid-2010 so the Sewer District can replace a 90-year-old concrete culvert. Many morning commuters heading into Cleveland from the West Side Tuesday fumed because Shoreway traffic was backed up into Lakewood. ..........
  23. Speaking of public square. If you are not familiar with the website cool history of cleveland, check it out. http://coolhistoryofcleveland.blog.com/4384224/ But below is another example of cleveland not working together and opportunities lost. I mean how cool would this have looked on ps. (from the website) But the most amazing City Hall was the one never built. In 1895 the voters of Cleveland approved a Beaux Arts designed building to be built on the northern quadrants of Public Square. The most eloquent component of its design was the enormous arch spanning over Ontario Avenue for street cars to pass through safely. It was a most amazing and jaw-dropping design. Unfortunately, after one week of the official ground-breaking the protests from numerous Clevelanders (after voting approval on the project), it was decided not to continue and Cleveland had to wait another twenty years before it received a new City Hall.
