Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
today: RTA responds to reader complaints about Euclid Avenue's new HealthLine Posted by Steven Litt / Plain Dealer Architecture Critic January 07, 2009 16:35PM Categories: Real Time News Some readers have criticized the Regional Transit Authority's HealthLine bus rapid transit corridor. The agency is addressing the common concern that drivers aren't stopping close enough to station platforms. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority is thrilled that buses on its new Euclid Avenue HealthLine are crowded during rush hours. It's trying to get drivers to stop closer to platforms to eliminate a potentially dangerous gap over which riders have to step. And it says it saved $15 million by leaving the corners open on its bus shelters. continued at>>>> http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2009/01/rta_responds_to_readers_compla.html $15 mill--you gotta be kidding me. Give me about 10k and I will go over to home depot and have it fixed by the weekend...and still have money left over for dinner for 12 at Mortons.

Cleveland: VA Hospital Expansion
^This must be exciting for all of those who work at the VA. I love the site plan and the design. I really like the bridge looking walkways. Very cool. You guys do allot of good work at the VA. You and those who desperately need this facility deserve it.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
It's all about expectations. The place is fine, nothing more nothing less. If you like Applebees or Chilis then you'll be ok. But what sets it apart from those other places is that they took a chance on downtown Cleveland while the other places didn't. So in that respect I will cut it some slack. Besides I like it so much better than what was there before-NOTHING.

Cleveland: Cleveland Institute of Art Expansion
This year, the four-year independent art college scrapped a lively and visually striking expansion design proposed by the internationally renowned architect Winy Maas, of the Dutch firm MVRDV. The reason? Too expensive. Too bad. I hope they explored every cost savings possible with the original design. I really liked this one.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Yes he was, and he continues his mediocre work for RTA. This guy gets allot of high profile work in this town and in my opinion has failed to deliver. He was also the AOR for both Browns stadium and the Q. I mean the Q I can live with but as far as CBS, he was the one who decided that 70,000 bright orange seats would look great. I cringe everytime I see them. As far as the shelters, how about RTA hunts down a sponsor and hang some heaters in those things. They could only run when they are occupied. Just a thought.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Although it was nice to see Euclid ave. looking as busy as NYC on Friday night, notice how cars are just ignoring the dedicated "bus lane". Throughout its design I was always hoping that the bus lane could somehow distinguish itself a little more from the car lane. I seem to remember in the original design the bus lane was to have a different look or texture than the auto lane, maybe by using a different color concrete or some type of different surface to it. But I guess that may have been part a victim of the value engineering. I wonder if this will be a problem on busy nights in the immediate downtown area, especially around PlayhouseSquare.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
yeah thats what I thought as far as the evenings go, but at least its busy during lunch hour. It's hard to find a place downtown in the evening that's not a bar, where you can sit back, throw down some wine and have a conversation with someone without having to compete with loud music or a game that's on a tv big enough to pull your car in front of.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I went to the MarketCafe at the Amtrust building for the first time. Wow what a great space that is. It looks like they dumped a bunch of money into it. I hope the downtown community supports it. Does anyone know how they are doing, does it look like it will be successful? And are they open in the evening?

Cleveland: National City Bank News & Info
This continues to piss me off-I just hate to see 168 years go down the drain. Watch the video at the bottom-and there are others if you search NCB bailout on youtube. National City's bailout application never seriously considered Posted by Sabrina Eaton/Plain Dealer Bureau November 14, 2008 18:39PM Categories: Banks, Breaking News, Economy, Real Time News Mark Lennihan/Associated Press Interim Assistant Treasury Secretary Neel Kashkari speaks early this week at a news conference.WASHINGTON -- National City Bank's application for federal bailout funds never got serious consideration because the bank was too weak to survive anyway, a Treasury Department official testified Friday. Regulators who screen bailout applications decided not to send National City's application to the office that dispenses money, Interim Assistant Treasury Secretary Neel Kashkari told a House subcommittee chaired by Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich. More at http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/11/national_citys_bailout_applica.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5GW2uh0k4A#

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Then why single Jackson out??? I am not sure what you are arguing here. You are saying that the mayor of a major American city plays no factor in the the building of a convention center on land that is owned by the city he governs.

Ameritrust developer seeks union financing Labor union pension funds could help finance a makeover of the former Ameritrust complex in downtown Cleveland. You contradicted yourself. You should be placing the blame on the county commissioners, not Jackson. I hold everyone culpable who will find themselves posing for the photo-op with a pair of giant scissors waiting to cut the ribbon.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
What does he have to do with the selection? or dealing with the MM folks? I understand it's a county project. But a leader is charged with keeping things moving. However he needs to get that done.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Are your above comments accurate? I don't want to pounce, but before (potentially) assigning blame, please make sure you know the proper players involved and accountable for this project. Well I just believe things start at the top. And Mayor Jackson, imo usually appears to be out of his league.

Chicago's Mart draws 33,000 people daily to its mammoth retail displays, shows and conventions. Wow, that is some crazy number. I just hope the mayor doesn't let the ball drop on this. We need a Chicago type mayor to get things done in this town, this guy is a sleep walk. Although I would prefer the mall site, we just need to get it done. Looking back it was critical that TaxinTim put the tax in place. Can you imagine trying to get financing done at this present time, it would set us back 5 years.
