  1. check out the renderings of the new Hanna-very cool http://greatlakestheater.org/greatlakestheater/ThebrstrongPROJECTstrong/AVirtualTour/tabid/287/Default.aspx
  2. With all of the national coverage about the school shooting, did anyone catch that idiot, NBC Weekend anchor Lester Holt describing Cleveland as one of Americas most dangerous cities. He said it twice in both of his live reports from Cleveland, Wed. and Thurs. morning. Thanx Lester, I'm sure allot of research went into that statement. Your riveting report is why you will never escape your weekend gig.
  3. ^ dude, that jaywalking vid is classic...

Here is a final idea for the manhole logo...

Thanks everyone for your comments on the logos, I appreciate any and all feedback. I must admit I am a little obsessed with this. My thinking on a logo is that if you take the text away you should still have a good idea of what the graphic represents. I believe the image should speak for itself. As far as the manhole logo(sorry Musky-It makes me nervous too), I wanted the text to look like a city worker had just rolled by in his truck and stenciled it on there-like fresh paint. I wanted to stay away from the "negative" graffiti thing. There is still one component that I want to add, but it hasn't looked right yet to me. I will also work on a b+w version. I originally had a white line but the double yellow just said city to me allot more. The only other logo I think will work would be from Kingfish, but It's kinda of deceiving because the skyline looks to much like NY or Chicago-but that's just my thinking. Other than that this has been allot of fun.

...and now for something completely different.

    Thanks Musky...

I made a few changes with the logo. I am trying to give it more of an urban "feel". Whatever logo we go with I think we should stay away from blues and reds and greens. To me "Urban" is different shades of gray, it's bricks-concrete and steel. I think the logo should reflect that. (also Seicer-the font is called "Bright". But I did a little surgery on the Urban part of the font-thnx)

Here is something that I have been working on. There are subtle changes in each one. I think I like the black one the best. Also just for fun what it might look like on a t-shirt. I put it on a girls t-shirt for all of the hot girls who are on this forum... (yea that's a joke).
  11. From peedee article, The 7-mile route will feature bus-only median lanes with rumble strips and a distinctive pavement pattern meant to keep motorists away. Does anyone know how this will look? My perception of the bus roadway was that it would be different from the regular car-lanes. But any graphic or rendering I have seen, both the bus and car lanes appear to be the same color and texture. I was hoping the bus-lane would look different. Any ideas?
  12. Musky-Shopping is not one of my favorite things. But I think I know where you are coming from as far as price and current styles. I know alot of the younger guys are pointing you towards some of the newer trendy stores but take my word for it, It's all about Kohls. They have a couple of current styles lines with their Apt. 9 and Axcess clothing. They have very nice dress shirts for under $25. BTW, never spend more than that for a shirt. So get most of your stuff there(go to the one at Westgate, it's the best and most orderly Kohls). And for that one killer suit-It's BananaRebuplic. But be prepared to spend 'bout 3-4 hundy on it.
  13. I am not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but there is a Medical Mart web site with allot of good info and it is up to date with recent developments. Check out the videos from Chris Kennedy and the press releases. Very interesting. If it asks you to register-I just created a bogus name "van smack" and email "[email protected]" http://www.clevelandmedicalmart.com/home.html
  14. ^thnx for posting the link for the pdf. I feel a little better about the project after having viewed the presentation. If the final project can remain true to the rendering's I think we are in good shape. My biggest concerns are the shelters on public square, they just don't seem big enough to handle the amount of riders that currently crowd the ones that are there now. I would have liked to have seen something more significant at PS than what is shown. Something enclosed and heated would have been nice. I hope most of the decorative walks and landscaping remain or has alot of that been cut back, I guess we will have to wait and see. Also those lamp posts are just o.k., I mean they are pretty bland-I just hope that they can keep them lit and maintained.
  15. Saw this posted on graigslist.com. interesting... CleanCleveland is Coming -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reply to: [email protected] Date: 2007-03-02, 5:18AM CST Looking for civic minded businesses and individuals that can help us organize this. We are going to give the homeless jobs of cleaning our filthy Public Square area. Will have 501 status soon. If the Mayor Jackson can't do this, let's show him how and help those less fortunate as a byproduct. Time and resources are more important than money donations at this time. Get some great PR for your company. If you know someone that can help, please send this message along. 16. What about all the "signature" buildings on campus at the Univ. of Cincinnati? If I recall two of those buildings had major private funding. With that money usually brings naming rights and more of a say as to the design. I think with the rumors of a private donation for the Visual Arts Ctr. is why we are looking at a very special building. If the renderings are close to what will actually be built-that is very exciting. WRL deserves a signature project already. As far as the student center goes, I don't have a real problem with it. If I were in the position that Musky is I would just stress to them how important this building is to Cleveland and hope that they take that to heart.
  17. Because we should be known as the 'City of Compromise'. We always try and make everyone happy. This is why we will continue to get watered down versions of what really should be built.
  18. Watch the "American Experience" on PBS Mon. 2/19 at 9pm. Called "New York Underground" it is an hour long program about the early days of the NY subway and it's origins. Should be very cool.
  19. Although I would rather see something "iconic" be built, I like it a hundred times better than what it's replacing. I think at times we need to be realistic and consider that this is a project being funded by the state and they will always play it safe and will rarely step over the edge. Let's see the cranes in the air!
  20. Knocking it down because supposedly 85% of the average people think it is ugly is the most idiotic thing I've heard to date Speaking as an "average person", I don't claim to be as brilliant as some others think they might be. But folks this is one ugly-ass building. Cleveland has enough of dark and dreary structures that we can look at if we want to. This building is hardly considered one of Breuer's best-it's barley even mentioned when speaking of his work. I'll bet even he hated it. Thank god the second tower wasn't built. With that said I fear if it's torn down the county will run out of money and there we have another parking lot. I would also hate to lose the height that it gives us. I think it can be saved by putting it behind glass and the complete refurb of the AT Rotunda. Remember we are dealing with the county here...
  21. From Joni Mitchell's 'Ladies of the Canyon' released 1970-one of the best songwriting albums ever. Includes Woodstock, For Free...brilliant stuff
  22. ...Stealyards?
  23. hmm... Old May Co. building sold for $10+ million 2:25 p.m. 1/26/2007 no link...
  24. Anything new on the study for the Visual Arts Center, I thought we might hear something before the end of the year. Not much buzz about it. Does anyone know where it stands? The concept by WRL would change the face of Euclid Ave.
  25. Here is a link to a very cool article dated December 1890 from the Scientific American about Charles Brush and the windmill. http://www.windpower.org/en/pictures/brush.htm
