Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
It will be nice to see some activity around this little building next to Riverview, should be a nice tie-in to the eventual Park next door. Ohio City Welcome Center Sudanese designer Malaz Elgemiabby is partnering with LAND studio to convert a former community center at the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority's Riverview Terrace into a welcome center to better serve, and reflect, the diverse population in Ohio City. https://www.crainscleveland.com/special-report-cuyahoga-river-reborn/cleveland-foundation-projects-celebrate-art-rebirth

Cleveland: Retail News
Speaking of Dollar General they are rolling out a new concept called DGX which is geared toward downtown urban residents. And according to design review one is slated for Reserve Square. It is a signage request from December. Does anyone know if this has opened. I don't see it listed on a location search. I mean it's not a City Target, but if Target doesn't believe in us maybe DG does. Here is a story about DGX. https://www.moderncities.com/article/2018-jan-dollar-general-investing-in-cities-with-dgx-concept

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Big news from the Rock Hall and NCH. Also news from Cumberland about a proposed hotel North of the Science Ctr. A preliminary design by DLR Group / Westlake Reed Leskosky of Cleveland shows that the Rock Hall expansion would be a curvy, earth-hugging structure built into the hillside between the Rock Hall and Science Center. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2019/04/rock-hall-seeks-to-expand-at-north-coast-harbor-link-to-great-lakes-science-center.html

Cleveland: Rocket Arena (Gund Arena)
Looks like they were just playing us with the QU going up on the building. I don't have a problem with the name change but 'Fieldhouse' is just kind of clumsy. RocketArena or The RocketHouse would sound and present itself better.

Ken Till from Bedrock announced that the Cle Film Festival will return to Tower City in .2020. So that either means the theaters will remain and be a part of the new renovation or no major construction will be happening over the next year. Hmm...

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
There is a stretch of chain link fence across from Progressive Field and the Q on your left as you drive down Ontario. It starts at about Eagle Ave. and ends as you make the left turn onto Huron. It is rusted and weed infested and it runs along a broken up sidewalk. The city is so negligent in things like this. I have even emailed council members over the years. Well maybe someone else has finally noticed this. I found this conceptual video from AoDK and the Cleveland Leadership Center. At least someone is thinking about it.

350' that works for me. And it is really not scaled back that much in total size of the project, just in height. Man I cannot wait for that parking lot to close. This is a good week for downtown development!

Vocon has already been revealed as the architect, Pinney indicated that. But there could be others.

What's more amazing is that in two of those photos you can just make out the gas station that's next door. And almost 90 years later it's still a gas station. Theatre goes, gas station stays. Like cockroaches they never die...

^Yes I agree but my dreams of a Chicago type waterfront with its parks and public spaces are probably not reality. I just want good sustainable development, those public type spaces will come if everything else is successful.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Will Blockland bridge the gap to the lakefront? So I will admit what I know about Block chain and crypto currency is limited to what I read in the headlines, but I am able to add two and two together, so let me speculate. In a recent post I quoted an article from CrainsCleveland in which Richard Pace/Cumberland suggested they will be ready in June to start a new project, which might include housing and a school. A school? What school. Now let's go back a couple of months when a forum member posted that Richard Pace will be renovating the two warehouses that currently sit North of FES. Enter CrainsCleveland again in an interview today with Jon Pinney who leads Blockland Cleveland in its search for a campus downtown. Pinney is quoted as saying that after evaluating dozens of sites they have come down to one and are in negotiations with the current developer who controls the land. But what he also said is the 150m dollar project would include a k-8 school on its campus. And they are currently working with Vocon on the design. Keep in mind Pinney, who is also part of the group that purchased a block of buildings in the garment district that is rumored to be the new headquarters for a suburban mortgage company is also working with Vocon on that project. Now Pinney who is a lawyer and with his firm has been involved with many recent projects, helping with site acquisition, tax credits, and development is to said to move quickly and hates delays. So what does this mean? Below is a wish list of requirements for the campus called 'Genesis' and it seems to fit what could be done with the warehouses and the surrounding property. Pace has also been very quiet and has seemed to move away from his previous vision known as Harborview that we have seen on Loopnet.

Unless I missed it, it doesn't seem anyone has posted this recent piece from Crains. In it Richard Pace says he will start another project in June. Now remember this June is when his option is up with the city so he is going to have to turn some dirt. The article mentions a 'school' but nothing further on that. Not sure where that came from. As speculated by another poster here it may be those warehouses already on site that is the target. "Developer Dick Pace of Cumberland Real Estate Development told Crain's he expects to break ground in June on land north of FirstEnergy Stadium that will be home to a school and a residential neighborhood." https://www.crainscleveland.com/government/opening-new-fronts-cleveland-lakefront-development
