Cleveland: Downtown: Standard Building
Michelle had these from the meeting. Michelle J. McFee mjarboe[/member] Weston has no plans, at this point, to replace or mimic onetime "The Standard Building" sign on building's big, blank south face. 24h24 hours ago Michelle J. McFee mjarboe[/member] Weston exec estimates that developer will replace 1,320 windows in Standard Building north of Public Square as part of apartment conversion. 24h24 hours ago Michelle J. McFee mjarboe[/member] At a #CLE Landmarks Commission presentation re: Standard Building redo. Plans for 285 apartments. Addy's, PNC stay on ground floor for now. I would consider using the wall as a video display. But the video 'mesh' type display that they used at the Cle Institute of Art. You see it used a lot in Time Square. They are much more energy efficient and less expensive than traditional video display. And they look great.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
Nice piece of inside info. Thanks for sharing. And I am trying to remain optimistic about Stark as he is about to add to his rendering collection. Hopefully at some point he can take a break from his love affair with suburbia and get something done downtown.

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
^Bleh I wonder though if the Willard expansion is still being discussed. Then it would just be a matter of building a combined waiting/ticket structure on top of the garage which would be at street level. In that same space would be the bus idling/boarding area. The garage would have reserved spaces for the combined services. While you could use the existing RTA platform for all train boardings. The only added expense would be the covered walkway from the garage to the platform. Oh well maybe I will still get 'some' of my green space. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,17673.msg743686.html#msg743686

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
Well I like that they are moving away from the Muni lot site. I have so many thoughts on this but briefly my biggest fear in using the current site is the sea of parked cars, idling busses, vehicle traffic and parking structure that this could bcome. I would hate to have that view from the top of the mall looking across to NCH. Hopefully if it ends up being built there any parking structure would have a green roof on it and no surface parking lots. And that the idling busses are also covered under a canopy. Also I proposed a site just north of Willard Park that I wish would be considered. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,17673.msg735887.html#msg735887 btw last year I did a rendering of an elevator from the bridge that is now being considered. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,3638.msg732740.html#msg732740

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
mjarboe[/member] goes into a lot more detail (as always) about the development in her piece today. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/10/hemingway_development_expects.html#incart_m-rpt-1 btw I have no problem with the vision. Seems very well thought out. I'm going to trust Geis on this one. This along with the UH development will be a boon to the area. And parking lots are always available to be built on in the future if the demand is there.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
You missed the point. I didn't miss the point as there was no point made. Again what would you suggest? Traditional retail is on it's way out. I see two type surviving, the lower end(dollar stores/outlets), and high end which the majority of us don't frequent on a regular basis. Online shopping continues to explode. The old way of doing business brick and mortar style will have to adjust.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Can anything besides a bar or restaurant be built in this town? It's getting old. You mean besides the hundreds of new residences under construction or about to be, the 1200+ new hotels rooms set to open by this time next summer, a massive public square makeover, a half a billion dollars in new bridges, new convention ctr, improvements along the river-boardwalk/rowing center/water taxi/canal pathway, further improvement to Edgewater park/beach house/ shore way conversion, downtown grocery store, Giegers Sports... What would you suggest?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I hear what you are saying but I think so far FEB has gotten somewhat of a bad rap. And I am not saying you but many ppl here believe that this project is loaded with nothing but chain businesses when in fact most of what Is there so far Is local. And this is just off the top of my head but Lago, Ken Stewart's, Willeyville, Flipside, Alleycat, Crop Rocks, Crop Stix, On-Air, FWD, Coastal Taco(ugh that name), EB Fitness, Constantino's are all local. Leaving PunchBowl, Beer head, and BigBang as the chains. So I think they are doing OK trying to fill up spaces. I don't think we will see any traditional retailers until more residences go up.

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Accompanying video from Litt's piece. I think it is a beautiful building. Also interesting that the Dental School will be in a new structure just north of the Medical campus on Chester. Described as a 2-3 story building about 80,000 sq ft to be designed by WRL. Looking forward to seeing that.

Haven't seen this anywhere yet but WEWS is reporting that FEB has signed an LOI with a major retailer at the Toby Keith spot. Expect announcement in next couple of weeks.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Cleveland is not unique in having an ugly jail tower in the downtown area. Just do an image search for 'downtown jails'. Problem is they all look the same, a fortress like structure with small windows and very little street presence. I would keep the jail downtown if it didn't have to look like a jail. Why can't it look like the Hilton for example, lots of glass, atrium with public spaces.

Cleveland: Retail News
Yep that's why the region is so divided as you suggest because I want a separate thread for Cleveland Retail...lol as the kids say

Cleveland: Retail News
^Thanks for bringing this discussion back to 'Cleveland' retail news. There should be a separate thread for the burbs.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Yes I was thinking about that spot. Remember the old Courthouse Plaza proposal. That would work, courts and jail. Done.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Well I am happy that discussions are moving forward on this as I posted the first article on this over a 1 year ago. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,3323.msg700350.html#msg700350 I am still trying to wrap my head around the possibilities here. I have always dreamed of the inJustice Ctr coming down. Although if feasible I would be open to a total rehab only if it included a re-cladd of the exterior, something like what is being done to the Celabreeze bldg. But that probably isn't cost effective. My thought is to have the courts downtown and the jail complex away from the city ctr. Available land along the OC would seem to be a good fit for the jail, closer to the Juvenile complex. It would be huge for the Warehouse District if this land became available.

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
mrnyc[/member] the studio you site in KC is smaller than http://www.creativehousestudios.com/ downtown Cle which claims to be the largest in Ohio. But who knows what metrics are used when these claims are made. I think we all agree that a more substantial film infrastructure in Cle would be great. We already have a very aggressive film commission, so that helps. It would be nice if some of our more successful film makers (Russo Brothers for ex.) could get together and put together a plan. But who knows maybe they have.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Centennial (925 Euclid Redevelopment)
Early rumor Department! Look for a new hotel flag 'Canopy by Hilton' to sign an LOI for the 925 Euclid conversion. Sometime late in the year or early '16.
