Also in regards to Cleveland, keep in mind that the city center itself and more importantly the CBD usually receives on average about 25% less snow accumulation than some of the surrounding areas/counties. When looking at yearly averages Cleveland gets lumped into the total along with the eastern snowbelt numbers. For instance over this last storm while other areas and counties were getting 3-4 inches the city center received less than an inch.

Hmm...Cincy getting some snow love today. I don't know how you Clevelanders Cincinnatians deal with it.

Living in Cleveland with the 'lake effect' is the price you pay for having a huge body of water at your doorstep. I can't imagine not living near a great lake or an ocean, the trade off is simple for me. For an average of an extra 20 inches of snow more than some river city gets I get the benefit of having access to something that brings us commerce, recreation and beautiful sunsets. Looking out across the lake is mesmerizing, walking the shore on a summer day, exploring the islands, knowing that there's another country on the other side is why I put up with the extra snow. Yeah we've had few bad days but it's looking good today.
  4. ^Probably true. Besides they said they will go back and take another look at it, I am sure it will be fine. As far as the continued Drury bashing, the facts are that there was an open auction that anyone could have bid on. Drury stepped up and believed in the potential, while all of these other brands that other wanted didn't. Case closed. I am willing to wait for the final product. It looks like all of the original fixtures/facade will be brought back to original condition. Can't wait to see that space all lit up at night.
  5. You are talking about one of those hamster tubes? That wouldn't be popular on here. I also imagine it might be an engineering nightmare. You are talking about digging under heavy rail tracks and a highway..... and through what is basically landfill Actually I was thinking about something more like what is pictured below but I don't want to take the discussion away from the bridge. I am sure it is feasible but at what cost? Idk. As far as the current design of the cable-stayed bridge I like it a lot. Although it is probably more form than function which I don't have a problem with. I love iconic design and it will be a great image for the city. But it will be busy during the summer and virtually empty on nights like tonight. I don't like the ODOT inspired 'off ramp' as it takes away from the overall design off the bridge. And I wish something other than the wind screen pictured can be found, as it looks too much like chain link fence. And hopefully if a transportation center ever becomes reality a connection can be made to the bridge.
  6. I wonder if a pedestrian tunnel was ever considered or explored. It could connect from inside the convention center and rise about where the wind turbine is. It would be climate controlled with less maintenance. It could also connect with a future transportation center/parking structure. Wide enough for pedestrians and bikes. Sounds like a winner to me.
  7. ^Yeah I get that but it sounds like it's more a matter of how much space they can dedicate to it. I am still surprised they can fit 180 rooms in there while still leaving space for meeting rooms/lobby/common areas. I guess something had to go.
  8. 'OK Google' ... Santorini restaurant Cleveland...wait for it... http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2014/09/08/greek-village-owner-to-open-new-greek-concept-in-warehouse-district
  9. 1313 W6th St. and 1382 W9th St. that no one posted yet....geez..slackers http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/2014/11132014/index.php
  10. Are those 'new' street lamps or are they the same ones?
  11. ^^They are actually up for the tax credit with the round deciding in December. They should get it. Having that last piece on the mall complete is huge. It's exactly what historic tax credits should be awarded for.
  12. Destination Cleveland location. (Although I wish that space was a restaurant/retail with that Euclid Ave. frontage). http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/2014/11132014/index.php
  13. Some stuff up on Landmarks regarding the Drury. Most images are 'present condition' photos, just a few renders and a hard to read site plan. Hopefully we will see more in the future. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/2014/11132014/index.php
  14. Designs for Towpath Trail final stretches have dramatic overlooks (slideshow) By Alison Grant, The Plain Dealer November 10, 2014 at 2:18 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Plans for the final miles of the Towpath Trail show an elevated section traveling underneath the Harvard-Denison Bridge and a stretch in Tremont that converts much of University Road into a bluff-side path with dramatic overlooks. The plans are for the northernmost six miles of the Towpath Trail, part of the 101-mile Ohio & Erie Canalway that runs from Tuscarawas County to Cleveland. Although most of the southern canalway is complete, building the final miles from the Metroparks Reservation at old Harvard Avenue to downtown Cleveland has been complicated and time-consuming because of a patchwork of property owners and environmental issues. The remaining segments in Cuyahoga County are now expected to be completed by 2019, much to the delight of residents and others scrutinizing the "preferred route alternatives" for the Towpath Trail Extension at a meeting last week. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/11/designs_for_towpath_trail_fina.html#incart_related_stories
  15. I don't care if this guy doesn't have a drivers license, he 'gets' downtown... November 09. 2014 4:30AM Ed FitzGerald to recommend Cuyahoga County commit $8.8 million of casino tax revenue to downtown projects By JAY MILLER Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald wants to commit $8.8 million from the county’s share of casino tax revenue to loans for three downtown Cleveland projects that he believes would improve residential options. On Monday, Nov. 10, he will recommend to Cuyahoga County Council that the county make three commitments: • a $4 million loan to Landmark-May LLC to convert the May Co. building on Public Square to 350 apartments; • a $3.3 million loan to Stark Enterprises for the first phase of its nuCLEus project near Quicken Loans Arena • a $1.5 million loan to the Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corp. and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance to be put toward a $7 million makeover of the Gateway district. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20141109/FREE/141109784?template=mobile&X-IgnoreUserAgent=1
  16. As much as I dislike where the Amtrak station is and how out of date it is I think we are stuck with it for a while. Thoughts of an updated Transportation Center hopefully is in the works but in the meantime I am trying to think of ways to make it more accessible. With the new pedestrian bridge just months from construction I am suggesting an elevator at about the halfway point from the bridge to the Amtrak station. When someone arrives at the station and needs to get to the mall they can simply take the elevator up to the bridge and walk to the mall and the future hotels that will be ready to go. If a visitor is staying at one of the hotels and is travelling by Amtrak they can then go to the new pedestrian bridge and take the elevator down to the Amtrak station for departure. Of the three bridge options the 'cable-stayed' one works the best as it would hide the elevator structure the best, and it is closest to the building. There can be Amtrak wayfinding signs on the mall directing passengers to the bridge. There would have to be a walkway built on the station grounds to the elevator entrance. So anyways just an idea that should be considered.
  17. I am sure there will be security cameras and maybe call boxes of some sort. Just a though but they should set up operations for the pedestrian bridge in the new 'NCH bridge house' that will control the NCH bridge. The bridge operator could monitor security on both bridges. Also I've thought with the cable stayed option an elevator could rise from the amtrak parking lot up to the walkway for passengers arriving or going down to depart.
  18. The image released Thursday of the nuCLEus massing is a bit different from what we saw earlier in the week. Building 'A' from the design review agenda showed it as a 17 story structure with retail/parking/residential. The newer massing shows a shorter structure with retail/parking and a residential tower on top. We should have a better idea in a couple of months.

    Funny Andrew Wiggins commercial.
  20. Remember the Lockkeepers owners announced a new restaurant at 75 Public Square. So that's right next door. http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2014/10/lockkeepers_names_public_squar.html
  21. We weren't listening, we were doing this....
  22. ^Right. WOIO always does that with these projects. Remember when they provided that image for One University Cirle. Those renders are from a marketing piece Stark is using along various channels. mjarboe[/member] indicates the architect has not been chosen yet or at least announced publicly. Here it is...
  23. ^We can only hope... :-D The time frame on this project is aggressive, much like Geis. The RNC is 18 months away and Stark hopes to have the parking structure done by then. Does he mean both buildings A and B? Ground would have to be broken within the next couple of months so we will find out how 'real' this project is soon. The core sampling we have seen around town recently must have been for this. Question is with 31 stories will he have to go to bedrock which is time consuming or can they get away with a concrete pad construction? He will have to choose an architect quickly, my guess is it might be Biolosky and Partners who did work on Pescht and Crocker Park. Also 'Intesa' and the "Progressive Campus'. Whoever the architect they will have to somehow make 12 floors of parking not look like 12 floors of parking. I fear the Westin parking deck. Just say no.
  24. You seem to have some knowledge of this. Can you see Bernie Moreno possibly building a downtown showroom in that space for his Collection Auto Group just as a showroom w/o the tower? Bringing all of his brands including Ferrari under one roof, or is it his intention to ultimately have a stand alone Ferrari dealership. Any thoughts?
  25. There is no Nike town in Times square. Shoe stores have built in "sneaker heads", but they are one dimensional stores. Stores in that development will have more diversity and appeal to children to adults. With more people moving downtown developers need to start thinking of family friendly stores and pet stores. Yeah I was thinking of the FootLocker there. Point is being across from the Q and with Lebron back, a big time signature sports store like a Nike Town would be a draw for all of the visiting athletes and sports media visiting town. Seems like something Nike would be interested in with one of their biggest athletes across the street.
