It is called an Oculus. Or at least Breuer's take on one. Going back to the early centuries the Oculus was usually placed at the peak of a dome as a circular open air function. It allowed light and weather to enter the space. In some examples it would be covered in glass. The top of the Att building in NY features a different example of an Oculus.

Cleveland: Downtown: Office Tower & Ferrari Showroom
Wonder why Moreno is so focused on Ferrari for.a downtown showroom. He could just build a two story showroom there now. He already carries Maserati, Lotus, Rolls and others. And he already has a presence down there now with the Welcome Center. I think we will hear more about this soon. Just a hunch.

We need a proposal like this for that empty hole where the Sherwin Williams poster is.

Well whatever happens, if we don't get Love we need 'bigs' in a hurry. We lost Hawes and Zeller, and I really thought Zeller was coming on in the last half of the season. Can't count on Anderson for the whole season.

Wow so many opinions on one friggin number. Talk about bigger fish to fry. OK I'll play along. The Breuer was completed in 1971. Just do a Google image search for 1970's font as I just did and you will see many example of that 9 from that era. Judging from some of the interior room examples I think that's the look they are going for.

Anthony Bennett with a double double today, but best of all no fouls and 14 boards. Wiggins looking for his shot yet but was very active defensively and got to the line with 6/8. Cavs win v Spurs.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
This whole week has certainly been an emotional rollercoaster in our city. And although I am a huge sports fan with basketball most likely my favorite, I have to remind myself that just because my city hasn't reached that championship level that I in someway feel like a loser as those in the national media portray me. Sports doesn't define my city or my region. But perception wise that has become our narrative as presented by those who judge us. Because I know if there was a 24 hour ESPN channel devoted to arts and culture or medicine or philanthropic efforts my city would always be in the finals, always a winner. With that-Welcome Home Lebron.

If you are into the Summer League download the NBA Summer League app from the Play Store. Even if you don't buy the package which is only like 15.00 there are tons of videos and stats from the games for free.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
^Yes I definitely agree with this. I've always that could be the route. I think to create the activity and the density along the new lakefront development this would make a huge difference. With this being an improvement to an existing line would it be eligible for any New Start funds? Also could it be done for less money. Wasn't the cost of the WFL about 60 m for the whole thing. I know it was a different time.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The thing about Manziel is that he should be taking this time to get to know his teammate, spend some time with them. I follow some of the Browns on twitter and a lot of them are spending time together, going out to eat, working out, hitting up CedarPoint, Ohio City. These are the guys that will have your back on the field, or then again maybe they won't. When his teammates start to turn him off that will be the real problem.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Interesting point by Mov2Ohio to make that connection. But you can take that same scenerio to almost any major city. Just off the top of my head I can identify other cities that have major key goverment buildings. There will usually be a federal building of some sort, an educational or county structure. There are other publicly funded convention hotels or facilities. So to me it's a non issue.

The Blazers will sign Chris Kamen so that probably takes Hawes off their rader and back in play with us. Right now he is our best option at C so we will see what happens now.

jUNE 2014 Update CONSTRUCTION As of June 11, 2014, the 29 caissons were completed, which totaled 3,700 cubic yards of concrete and 328 tons of reinforcing steel. These 180’ deep foundations were needed to meet bearing strength requirements for the height of the building. The crew worked 12 hour days and every other Saturday for eight weeks. Challenges during the drilling process involved running into boulders and methane gas. Workers filled the shafts with water to avoid methane build up and all the work was completed safely. On June 23, preparation of Mat Foundation work began. Sheeting the site to stabilize the site and excavation to haul out unneeded soil is required. 10,000 cubic yards of soil are expected to be hauled out to various fill sites. A total of 7,966 onsite working man hours are anticipated by the end of June. To date, 154 workers have been onsite for construction. DESIGN The design team is continuing to work through, coordinate, and finalize the design for permitting and construction. Foundations, underground utilities, and structural steel design drawings have been released for permitting. 50% construction documents are expected to be released late August. SCHEDULE Construction continues to remain on-schedule! Concrete foundation work starts on last week of June/first week of July. •8,300 CY of concrete and 800 tons of reinforcing steel are anticipated for the foundations. •All structural concrete work for the entire project is scheduled to be completed summer of 2015. Steel fabrication in Kansas City, Missouri will begin in July. •All steel is expected to be fabricated over a 16 week period. Steel erection is slated to begin in September. •All steel is expected to be erected over a 13 week period. The first section of the tower crane, which will eventually reach almost 400’ tall, will be erected near the end of July http://www.cuyahogacounty.us/pdf_home/en-US/ConventionCenter/ProjectUpdates/06302014.pdf

Cleveland: Downtown: Standard Building
Michelle had the presence of mind to give us a picture of what a southern view would look like if there could be some way to replace the blank wall on the Standard with windows. From what I have read about the tax credits you are not able to alter the architectural integrity of the building. I guess you could argue that a blank wall has no 'architectural integrity'. Didn't 668 put in some windows on the west side of the building, also there were some windows cut in the alley of the Breuer project I think.
