Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
This used to be the Rivergate Cafe at RiverGate Park. It is being transformed by the MetroParks into Merwin's Warf Bistro described as more upscale with an outdoor patio and fireplace by the river. Looks like they have added garage doors for the summer months. Can't find any final rendering for it. This is all I see. Opening this summer.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
Uptown is not a neighborhood. TowerCity is not a neighborhood either... As the Airport is a terminal with a defined function. The "Airport" is an appropriate name. Tower City or PKA "Cleveland Union Terminal" or "Terminal Tower" make sense as it's was the hub/terminal of Cleveland's rail operations. I left those out on purpose, as I didn't think I would have to explain thoses. I think naming the station is an important part of the construction process, but if KJP, you don't feel it's appropriate, please move this sub convo to an appropriate thread. lol

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
He had the ability to put it up for a vote. From a guy who publicly opposed the casino ballot he had a lot more to do with it than you think. Here are three articles outlining his involvement. http://www.horseplop.com/index.php?topic=21007.0;wap2 http://www.newsmax.com/TheWire/gambling-Ohio-Kasich/2011/10/24/id/415455/ http://wosu.org/2012/news/2012/05/25/legislature-halts-new-internet-cafes-skips-columbus-in-racino/

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
They must have some ideas of a main tenant at this point...wonder who it could be? Who is coming up for a lease renewal, who's building is being sold, who needs multiple floors. My hope it would be someone from the 'burbs looking to move downtown. It's going to be interesting. Eaton Ctr. has a new owner so they will be looking for a tenant also. It's going to have to be someone who desires brand new space looking to make a statement. A Law firm or a Bank, idk.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
^Because that's what WE voted on.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
Unfortunately the game changed when JohnnyK decided to flood the state of Ohio with Racino's. Without a vote of the people. We the citizens voted to approve 4 Casino's. But the governor decided he had a better idea and diluted the market. Which is why we wait on Phase2.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
I don't believe these ideas are long range in scope. As described on the LandStudio website: LAND Studio plans to continue its work with Positively Cleveland by testing small-scale, low cost design projects before scaling up to larger and more permanent changes to the city's streets and public places. LAND was hired by PositivelyCle to develop long and short term ideas to identify 'eyesores' areas.

Well if anything this demolition is bringing some great photos.

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Well looks like a good portion of the stands are gone. Seems like they are building the base for the scoreboard. Though idk they could leave it open like that, I kind of like the view.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Re: Douglas Miller quote. My only point in posting the quote from the Jacobs rep is that we rarely if ever hear any feedback from them. I have no grand illusions that anything is going to happen anytime soon. Although w/the proposed work at PS it definitely increases the possibilities of some action sooner rather than later.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Consider these thoughts from Doug Miller of Jacob's as recently as December: Douglas Miller, executive vice president of Westlake-based Jacobs Real Estate Services, said in an interview that the concern no longer thinks of the site strictly as an office development opportunity. “We have entertained a mixed-use idea for our site. It probably does make some kind of sense for our site. I don't see it being 100% apartments or office use anymore,” Mr. Miller said. “It will take something of fairly significant mass to finish (commercial development around) Public Square, some kind of mixed use development like we've not seen in Cleveland: office, perhaps a hotel, and apartments.” The project would still need an anchor use, Mr. Miller said, most likely a large office tenant. Such an anchor would be essential to landing financing for a project that might change the city's skyline. Although he acknowledged Jacobs Group is not actively pursuing such a project, he sees it as a complement to the redevelopment of Public Square and the city's downtown Mall — he is a member of the mayor's Group Plan Commission charged with re-evaluating the city's public spaces — and opens the door to development west of Public Square. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20131201/SUB1/312019996/building-may-be-next-big-development?template=printart Oh and Jacobs how about getting out of the parking lot biz and built something cool there in the meantime. How about a cutting edge two story all glass Apple mega store. The thing would be packed from am to pm....except by me..cuz I am an Android guy...

Cleveland: Downtown Retail Needs
Yes to continue to refer to TC as a failure is ignorant. The 100 or so doors that opened this morning at TC may disagree with you. Again as I mentioned above it's not perfect but you can walk into any suburban mall today and see the same problems. It is a constantly changing industry.

I am happy for the improvements in Collinwood. But is this another streetscape project that does not involve removing the utility poles. I don't understand this.

Cleveland: Downtown Retail Needs
Guys this downtown retail discussion rarely touches on one thing...Tower City. We have something that not a lot of city's our size has. And it's been open for about 30 years now. I understand it's not everyone's idea of urban retail but it has been successful. If you took those 50 + stores/food court locations/various restaurants/ 11 screen theatre and spread them out in the CBD this would be a whole different thread. Not to mention two hotels/a casino/and a transit center. I know and I agree the roster of stores is not what it once was ( http://www.towercitycenter.com/directory ) and the hours suck but it often gets overlooked. I know people who don't even know it's still open! Yes ForestCity could do a much better job of bringing people thru the doors, with outdoor directory's, a marquee for the theatre, retail signage on the outside of the building. So many areas missed. I hope somewhere at ForestCity they are hard at work trying to bring in better choices. It obviously needs to be updated but let's not forget about it.

Cleveland: Downtown: Drury Plaza Hotel Development
Michelle updated her story w/new info since I posted the link. So re-read it. But most importantly that: Drury Southwest plans to spend a "significant" amount of money overhauling that garage. It will close later this year for four to six months of renovations. Also target opening date for the Drury Plaza is October 2015. The project is competing for round 12 of Ohio's historic preservation tax credit awards, and the state expects to announce the winners in late June. Meanwhile, Drury has cleared out the former Board of Education building and recently started asbestos abatement.

Cleveland: Downtown: Drury Plaza Hotel Development
Needed to dust this thread off... So here is the story from @mjarboe concerning the purchase of the 801 Rockwell parking garage by Drury Hotels. I was getting nervous about this project but it looks like they are even more invested now. This is a good move for them and frankly their only option when it came to parking for the Drury Plaza. Hopefully they will have no problem with the tax credits. So maybe we will see something at design review in the near future.
