  1. Yes and my hope is one day we would see a similar type development on that big empty parking lot next to the powerhouse across the river. Come on Jacobs.
  2. My hope and thought for that space would be an upscale movie theater. Something with about 4 screens that would complete PlayhouseSquare as a true entertainment district, with both stage and screen. It would also bring another marquee to the street which would look great at night. To me it would draw from PHS visitors/downtown residents/ CSU students next door. These new theatres offer a different experience with restaurant/bar capabilities. You see them open recently in Austin/Seattle/SF and other urban areas. It could also be used for movie premiers in place of ValleyView. A couple examples: http://www.cinepolisusa.com/Index.aspx?nl=1 http://dinein.amctheatres.com/how-it-works/cinema-suites

  6. Couple of things from design review.
  7. I had posted it back in March. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3323.700 Here it is. http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2014/03/cleveland_cuyahoga_county_could_spend_300_million_or_more_to_upgrade_justice_center.html#incart_river_default#incart_m-rpt-2
  8. I am sure he meant media market size, which in the real world is probably more important. Cle comes in at 17 while Col/Cin roll in at 32 and 34.
  9. John Travolta headed to Cleveland this spring to shoot new movie: 'Criminal Activities "For me, having a film commissioner that understands the needs and challenges of the independent film maker is the number one factor in choosing the city to film in," said producer Wayne Rice. "The Ohio Incentive Program is a great opportunity for our Industry, coupled with a fantastic Cleveland Film Commission that understands our business and what we need to succeed; coupled with great locations and hard working crews make the Ohio Program tough to beat," said producer Mark Johnson. http://www.cleveland.com/moviebuff/index.ssf/2014/04/john_travolta_headed_to_clevel.html
  10. I have always loved the Garfield Bldg. Walking down E6th has kind of a special vibe, a NYC type feel to it. Hope the transition to residential is successful and without delay. Props to @mjarboe for getting them to reveal probably more than they wanted to at this point. The guy's phone is most likely ringing off the hook.
  11. ^While that building is empty, that would be a great place to shoot a movie. I wonder if the film commission ever shows it off for a possible location.
  12. Just to clarify considering the budget and the building they had to work with, I think the developer did a nice job. My only problem is with the exposed guardrails.
  13. Yes I am holding my breath on that also. I'm hoping that will be the last thing to do. Any type of cosmetic improvement would help. Although I look at the render and it doesn't look much different. That would be a shame if that got past design review.

  15. Re: the bridge. I will always be obsessed with that bridge and if there was any discussion at the time to keep it, or replace it with a more permanent one. I would love to know if that was ever considered. I have looked thru articles from that period and have come up empty. I just think that's the bridge we need to build again and honor the past.

Terribly frustrating effort tonite. Especially losing to Atl, what a horrible basketball town that is.There were like three people in the stands for a pivotal game. The Q would have been packed. And I agree about Windhorst what's that idiot always commenting on the Cavs for. You made your 'decision' stay in your lane.
  17. Been waiting for some news about the Arcade, Thanks MJ! Hyatt at the old Arcade getting a $6 million Facelift By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Two years after buying one of downtown Cleveland's best-known buildings at a foreclosure auction, Skyline International Development Inc. is revamping hotel rooms and considering ways to revive empty storefronts at the historic Arcade. A $6 million renovation of the 293-room Hyatt Regency hotel, on the old shopping mall's upper floors, started in December. Crews have gutted 113 of those rooms, which are set to reopen with new fixtures and furniture before May. The remaining rooms will close in spring 2015 and come back online by summer. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/04/hyatt_at_the_old_arcade_gettin.html
  18. Stan Bullard Bulard would like a word with you :whip:
  19. ^OK let's not get crazy now.
  20. How about this. 'Plans are currently being prepared and will be released in the Spring of 2014'. A lot of the things you guys are commenting on from that PDF are 4 years old. And although it's hard to believe from looking outside, it's almost spring... 8-)
  21. Anyone who remembers the inverted pyramid concept should be happy with how this turned out. What you talking 'bout Surf, the pyramid thingy was awesome!
  22. ^Agreed. There is only so much funding. With this project and the involvement of the MetroParks, the whole area will take on a new personality when finished. Definitely worth it.
  23. this was a great idea thx - i thought where you put nightclub was supposed to be saved for an apt tower for the next phase? no? Some of the older renders from 4/5 years ago show an apartment bldg there, but I haven't seen anything about it since then. From what I can tell the nightclubs along the river will be seasonal, outdoor bar/dance floor. I am sure if there is demand in the future those could be easily moved.
  24. from @Steven_litt (I added the text, I think it's right)
  25. March 27. 2014 4:30AM Work on Cuyahoga County Convention Center Hotel kicking into high gear (with photo gallery) By STAN BULLARD Construction of the Cuyahoga County Convention Center Hotel is starting to go underground — and that is far below the pit that already sits where the former county administration building stood at 1200 Ontario Street. A new crew of contractors also has taken over the site. The B&B Wrecking Co. workers who razed the old county building and excavated its foundation through record-cold temperatures and snowy weather have moved on. In their place are workers retained by the design-build contractor the county selected for the project last October, the Turner/Ozanne/VAA joint venture. That is the name of the joint venture formed for the job by Turner Construction Co., the New York City-based international construction contractor, and Cleveland's Ozanne Construction Co. and Van Auken Akins Architects LLC. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20140327/FREE/140329832?template=mobile&X-IgnoreUserAgent=1#ATHS
