  1. ^I am just guessing but maybe the doors were put in place early in preparation for the RockHall inductions. If the others are not eventually replaced I can see where they would be restored in some way. Also I have not seen any indication that the E6th/St.Clair doors would be functional. Maybe as exits but not entrances.

Some idea of what Ontario and Carnegie might look like.
  3. If you haven't been lately, check out the MedMart website. There are new renderings that give you a better sense of the interior. I'm very impressed. http://www.clevelandmedicalmart.com/about/architecture/
  4. Regardless of whether Rock owns a piece of it or not, up until last year the longtime owners, the Maloofs did nothing with the property and they have been cited for years. They were hardly good neighbors with respect of how they maintained their property. We forget that they sold their beautiful surface parking lots that were an eyesore also. Without this recent development this property probably would have stayed the same way for the next 20 years. And yet no one holds them accountable.
  5. How is Rock Gaming to blame for a building they don't even own, a building they have not neglected for 20 plus years. Why do the current owners always get a pass in this forum. Maloof = slum landlord. They are just using this situation to play on everyone's emotions. This is an age old tactic. Damn I 'm getting hooked again...
  6. I would be down for that. It would be our own chunnel. And about the same distance if it began in Cleveland over to Port Stanley. And it could have a rail line right down the center. I mean if Romney/Boston got the feds to pay 95% of the Big Dig, then why not us? Besides I always loved the bridge to Canada idea, of course I loved the Jetport idea also.
  7. I am usually for new construction and somewhat indifferent when it comes to the majority of the demolition that takes place, unless it is a significant historical structure. But damn that is a good looking building, it looks like their just building it. I would have questioned that one.
  8. ^Wouldn't this better be posted and discussed in the demolition thread?
  9. It is just incredible that it is not being used. What amazes me is someone like American Greetings when in search of a headquarters and who is in the business to be creative would not be inspired to work and create in this type of space everyday. Instead they choose to define their image and be inspired with the likes of CrockerPark and the great diversity of cookie cutter suburbia.
  10. OK this is pretty big news. Can you share anything more, or describe the drawings? Keep us posted.

  12. Man I hope those utility poles will come down on Chester. There isn't a bigger buzzkill with new construction when the utility poles remain.
  13. Although in a more extended version of that article it does suggest that Sandvick is working with the owner, so idk. "We've certainly worked on buildings that were in much worse condition than this and successfully rehabilitated them," said Peter Ketter, a preservation specialist with Sandvick Architects who is working with the Maloofs and the Historic Gateway Neighborhood. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2011/03/stanley_block_one_of_downtown.html
  14. ^Last I heard Sandvick was doing the restoration. I am pretty sure they know a thing or two about preservtion.
  15. ^Wow that place looks awesome! Chipotle who?
  16. Yes this is great news if it comes together this way, great job KJP. That whole intersection will look so much different in 3 years. The Breuer is next, somethings gotta happen with that. If it was up to me I would fine the slum landlords (aka the County) everyday that building and the rotunda remain in that condition. If they can't sell it at least maintain the exterior and clean it up.
  17. Sounds pretty legit. Especially considering the Y signed a 5 yr lease in 2009 with CSU, so the 2014 date makes sense. And although I have always liked the Galleria as a public space, this move makes a lot of sense for all parties involved. CSU probably can't wait to get their hands on the Prospect building. I wonder looking at the initial rendering how far west the exterior work will go. Maybe it will improve some of that horrible color scheme DollarBank has going on.
  18. ^yeah I am not sure what the holdup is here. According to the flicker account most of those photos were taken in March 2011. I think this thing started about the same time as the MM/CC. And that's like 50 times the project. Maybe there was a funding delay or whatever.
  19. All of the above pics are beautiful. Just like that we will wipe out a huge chunk of ugliness downtown. And at this point I really don't even care if I am somewhat lukewarm as to the design of the project. I mean who cares, goodbye blight, goodbye decay. And I feel so bad for those who will have to walk another 500 feet. Goodbye surface parking lots. Now we just need something of this scale in the warehouse district. Good things are happening, its just a matter of time.
  20. You can see in this webcam shot the start of the elevated roof forming the Lakeside Ave. entrance.
  21. I usually wait to read this thread because it is the most entertaining to me. It's a place where the normally well thought out poster comes off the track. It's Cleveland. Com without the logic. Drama at It's finest. Where "I told you so" becomes the chanted mantra. With that said I would like to prepare everyone with the almost certain take down of the Stanley building. In my opinion it is very obvious the owner is looking for a pay day and Gilbert is the ATM. When a building is being held together with cables thru 40 years of neglect and no investmant from the owner it becomes a money pit. And no one is going to invest in it with out any possible ROI. So what's Gilbert to do unless he covers the front of it with a Fathead of Z. He is destined to become the bad guy once again and it's starts all over. I can't wait
  22. The Maloof's sold two parking lots to USA Parking within the Stanley block area in Jan. 2010. And I am no tax expert but if you own a building for 20 plus years that never had one tenant, somehow that is working in your favor.
  23. The Maloofs had every opportunity over the years to renovate. But they were the classic example of a slum landlord because they were making money. Why would they spend any of it on renovation. The surface parking lot business was very good to them. How a building looked was not at the top of their agenda.
  24. Cleveland State University's innovative engineering program among recommendations for $350 million in capital funds Published: Wednesday, February 15, 2012, 9:00 PM By Karen Farkas, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland State University expects to receive $12.7 million from the state to renovate a building for a new engineering program. Cleveland-based Parker Hannifin Corp. will collaborate with CSU on the new engineering program, which will be housed in Stillwell Hall, an 85-year-old building near Fenn Tower that will be updated to house new laboratories, said CSU President Ronald Berkman. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2012/02/cleveland_state_universitys_in.html
  25. Can we just rename this thread "We hate Dan Gilbert" because somehow 40 years of neglect is his fault.
