  1. Now THAT is a game-changer. Brilliant idea. I’ve been to Target Field in downtown Minneapolis and they have a very similar design with a transit station underneath the stadium. I also love how you split the land up to create a new channel. Great creativity!
  2. If what they’re saying regarding the structural integrity of the stadium is accurate, it may not be worth it to renovate FirstEnergy Stadium. My hope is that they’d either build a new stadium where the current one stands or they pursue the downtown location near St. Clair Ave. I like the latter because it’d be taking a gamble on the lakefront’s long-term value to the city while developing an entirely new section of downtown around the stadium. However, I think it becomes a cost analysis of determining if building a new stadium on the current site but only have 50 acres to develop would generate more/less profit than developing all 70 acres of the lakefront but having to dish out millions to buy up properties.
  3. I see what you all mean re: generic architecture. I see a little bit of brick mixed in there- it’d be really nice if they made that the predominant material used. Maybe it’d also help if the buildings themselves weren’t all the same size/shape? I definitely think that projects like these should attempt to respect the history of the neighborhoods they build in.
  4. My apologies, I meant the Cleveland.com article, not Pro Football Talk. The Senior Vice President of communication for the Browns and Haslem’s sports group confirmed on Sunday that they’re “conducting feasibility studies on what a new stadium would look like.” You would be correct in that PFT mentions a quote from 2018. I’ve edited the original post to clear up any confusion.
  5. It’d definitely be a game-changer. Obviously a world-class stadium would change a lot of outside perspectives about Cleveland, but all we’ve ever known is the lakefront being centered about the Browns. For the first time in nearly 100 years, it will be a blank canvas for imagination!
  6. And that’s not even including the other projects going on around downtown. We’re inching closer to 30,000… maybe one of these mixed-use renovations can house a City Target when the time comes? Also, I thought it was interesting that Ken’s article mentioned this and several other projects getting the green light because of Sherwin-Williams’ new HQ. Makes sense and it goes to show how pivotal them staying in Cleveland (and downtown) was.
  7. The Cleveland.com article attempted to corroborate your story by reaching out to the Browns for a comment and they fight didn’t deny it. Let the fun begin!
  8. Excellent news! Question: do we know yet what the income brackets/caps will be for the lower-income residential units?
  9. I’m putting this question here because the casino is apart of the Tower City complex: does anyone know of the current state/health of JACK Casino? With the Cavs introducing a sports book at the FieldHouse soon, would that have any affect on JACK’s business?
  10. I guess I wasn’t too far off with my St. Clair Ave example! Great article, as always. Personally, I prefer that site but the layout you created of the post office site is very intriguing. If a soccer stadium went in as well, it would only add to the foot traffic there. However, it’d have to be a 100% guarantee that the stadium village gets built for me to favor that site. Regardless, the idea of opening up the lakefront for an entirely new neighborhood is very exciting. Fun times ahead!
  11. Awesome news! I wonder if this means Harris/HBSE will be involved as well or if it’ll just be Blitzer? We can only hope for what this means regarding the Gateway mega-project… fingers crossed!
  12. I was just using it as an example if they looked to build elsewhere within/near downtown. By no means was I trying to imply that I know anything.
  13. Thank you. Going off what you said, I’m assuming they would not forfeit those development rights if they were to build a new stadium, say, north of CSU near St. Clair Avenue?
  14. The only question I’d have is whether the funding from the state for the lakefront project would remain consistent if the Browns are no longer anchoring it?
  15. You’re correct; it is pretty high-end. I was just thinking of the types of clothing they offer (e.g. jeans, khakis, polos) that wouldn’t necessarily be found at other stores downtown.
  16. We can only hope! There are a lot of men’s clothing stores that tailor to formal and professional attire downtown (if I recall correctly), but there’s been a need for more every-day, casual clothing ever since they departed. I think this is also where a city Target would help, though that may be another topic for another thread.
  17. Seeing it from this angle really goes to show how nicely it’s going to help fill the skyline in. Great job, as always!
  18. ^ I also have an additional thought/question to expand on my post above. I remember the blockchain hub concept had plans for some sort of food hall inside Tower City. Ideally, could they revamp the food court as a rotating food hall from local restaurants and food trucks? Are there plans for one? I think that’d go a long way towards giving it that local flair!
  19. Awesome… LOVE that they are going with the local and small business route. Tower City is one of Cleveland’s most important assets in that, when people arrive into the city on the Rapid from Hopkins, Tower City is one of the first impressions they get of the city. I’d much rather they see restaurants and businesses that are uniquely Cleveland instead of chain stores that can be found anywhere else in America.
  20. I’m glad someone caught it! :)
  21. Let’s hope so! Even with the latest news, it seems like things may be falling our way with them striking out on the Premier League and NFL.
  22. Not sure I understood this quote in the text: “It’s also tantalizing that Bonner said Adjaye could design a “building or buildings” along the riverfront, in addition to the master plan.” Does anyone have a better idea on what Bonner means by this, or perhaps where the building(s) would go that would be in addition to the master plan? I just assumed that everything along the riverfront *was* the master plan?
  23. That’s fair. I was thinking it could be seen less as a money-making project and more as a marketing expense/investment. Who knows, maybe they could rent out event space throughout the year to cover the costs?
  24. Agreed. When you consider that many visitors first arrive in Tower City from Hopkins via the RTA, it’d be an ideal spot for such a visitor center. I think it would make for a great first impression of our city.
  25. I’m not sure whether its fate has been determined yet, but I’m interested to see if the old railroad depot will remain intact. If it does, I wonder if it would influence the architects to style other buildings along the riverfront in a similar industrial style? Almost reminds of that picture above from their Liverpool project. Fun times!
